As part of its commitment to recognizing excellence, the Diamond Club honoured Professor Vincent Weli, Professor of Climatology and Director of Weather Forecasting Services, NiMeT, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

This recognition is in appreciation of his outstanding performance in his chosen career and his well-deserved, meritorious elevation, which reflects years of dedication, professionalism, and impactful service to the nation.

The Diamond Club celebrated Professor Weli for his remarkable contributions to climatology, weather forecasting, and national development, and wish him continued success and greater achievements in his distinguished career.

DIRECTOR OF WEATHER FORECASTING SERVICES, PROF. WELI ON RSTV TO ADDRESS FLOODING IN PORT HARCOURT AND NIGERIA

Flooding remains a major environmental challenge, especially in flood-prone areas across Rivers State and other parts of Nigeria. Year after year, lives, properties, and livelihoods are lost—not just because of the disaster itself, but largely due to poor awareness and lack of preparedness.

Information is key in preventing, mitigating, and managing such emergencies. When people are properly informed, they are better equipped to take proactive steps and respond wisely.

In line with this, Professor Prof. Vincent Weli Director of Weather Forecasting Services at NiMet, visited the Rivers State Television Authority (RSTV) to educate the public on the importance of paying attention to weather forecasts and early warning alerts on flooding.

He emphasized that early information saves lives, and urged communities to act on weather updates rather than ignore them.

The celebration was marked by the participation of staff across various departments, including Applied Meteorological Services, the Directorate of Weather Forecasting Services, Finance and Administration, ICTC, the DG’s Office, Corporate Services, Human Resources, and Engineering.

It was a moment of honour, unity, and appreciation for the dedication of the Director of Weather Forecasting to the delivery of accurate weather forecasts that enable Nigerians to plan, follow weather predictions, and avert the impacts of adverse weather conditions.
