I am very sad to hear of the passing of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, former Governor of Delta State.

Like me, Dr. Uduaghan was a medical doctor before entering public life, and he brought the instinct to care for others into his years in office.

He served as governor while I was Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, and working with him, I came to see him as a man of peace, one who understood that little could be achieved where people could not live together in harmony. That is the man I knew, and that is how I will continue to remember him.

On behalf of my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his wife, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan, their children, the entire Uduaghan family, and the government and people of Delta State.

He will be dearly missed.

PRESS STATEMENT

VICTORY FOR TRUTH AND DEMOCRACY: SMPC SALUTES COURT OF APPEAL JUDGMENT VINDICATING SENATOR ABUBAKAR BUKOLA SARAKI (ABS)

The Saraki Movement for Positive Change (SMPC) joins millions of Kwarans and lovers of democracy across Nigeria in celebrating the landmark victory of our principal, leader, and former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (GCON), at the Court of Appeal in Ilorin.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Ridwan Maiwada Abdullahi alongside Justices Gabriel Omoniyi Kolawole and Abdu Dogo, the appellate court completely quashed the baseless criminal defamation and cyberbullying charges engineered against Dr. Saraki by the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led state government. The court rightly declared the suit an abuse of court process, unconstitutional, and a weaponization of state power to suppress constructive political dissent.
The appellate court’s ruling established clear principles: the Penal Code, Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and Cybercrime laws were never enacted to shield public officials from uncomfortable questions or political criticism. Holding public officers accountable on issues of capacity and qualification is a fundamental constitutional right, not a crime.
This judgment is not just a personal victory for Dr. Bukola Saraki; it is a monumental triumph for free speech, political freedom, and the rule of law over state-sponsored intimidation. It serves as a stern reminder to the outgoing administration that political desperation and state machinery cannot crush the truth or silence the collective voice of the Kwara electorate.
While the "AA propaganda machinery" spent endless weeks manufacturing distractions, rumors, and court drama, the judiciary has once again proven to be the last hope of the common man and the defender of democratic principles.
The SMPC commends the brilliant legal team that prosecuted this appeal and salutes Dr. Bukola Saraki for his calm resilience and unwavering courage. We advise the state government to stop hunting for legal shortcuts and instead prepare to face the people of Kwara in 2027 through a genuine democratic process.

SMPC Mourns the Transition of a Titan: Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Imam Saliu Al-Fulani, OON

The the entire community of the Saraki Movement for Positive Change (SMPC) express our profound grief and heartfelt condolences on the passing of the eminent scholar and elder statesman, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Imam Saliu Al-Fulani, OON.
Sheikh Bashir was more than just a religious leader; he was a beacon of wisdom, a custodian of Islamic heritage, and a tireless advocate for peace and national unity. His calm ways was a testament to his lifelong dedication to the moral and spiritual upliftment of our society.

At SMPC, we remember him as a pillar of support whose counsel was as deep as it was compassionate to the Muslim ummah. His departure leaves a vacuum in the scholarly world that will be difficult to fill. However, we take solace in the exemplary life he lived and the thousands of lives he transformed through his teachings.

We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus and provides his family, his students, and the entire Ummah the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

His death marks the end of an era, but his teachings on humility, service, and devotion to Allah will live on in our hearts.
We pray that Allah (SWT) comforts his family and grants him eternal rest in the highest gardens of Paradise.
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.

I received the news of the passing of the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh (Dr.) Muhammad Bashir Salihu, with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss. He was an institution whose life was defined by scholarship, devotion to Allah (SWT), and selfless service to the Ummah.

He served diligently as the spiritual head of Ilorin and as Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Ulama, Alfas and Imams, guiding generations with wisdom, clarity, and humility.

From the pulpit, his sonorous voice consistently called the faithful to righteousness, peace, discipline, and communal harmony. His sermons and teachings further strengthened Ilorin’s historic reputation as a bastion of Islamic theology, jurisprudence, moderation, and intellectual excellence.

A worthy heir to a noble lineage of Islamic scholarship, Sheikh (Dr.) Muhammad Bashir Salihu embodied the finest values of Ilorin’s spiritual heritage. His life reflected piety, loyalty, diligence, and a deep respect for knowledge.

Beyond his role as Chief Imam, he was a teacher, mentor, and father-figure to many, shaping minds and character through learning and exemplary conduct. His leadership fostered unity within the Ilorin Emirate and strengthened the harmonious relationship between the Emirate Council and the Islamic community.

On a personal level, I will never forget the father-and-son relationship we shared. His prayers, counsel, and moral support during critical moments in my public service remain unforgettable.

My family and I, like my late father, Oloye (Dr.) Abubakar Olusola Saraki, held him in the highest esteem for his integrity and unwavering commitment to the Ummah.

As we mourn this great loss, I urge the Ilorin Emirate and the Muslim Ummah to take solace in the enduring legacy he leaves behind—a life devoted to Allah (SWT), service to humanity, and the nurturing of future generations. His works and teachings will continue to inspire generations yet unborn.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari; the immediate family of the late Chief Imam; the Council of Ulama, Alfas, and Imams in Kwara State and beyond; and the entire people of the Ilorin Emirate.

I pray Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive the shortcomings of the departed scholar, accept his decades of service as acts of ibadah, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort the Ilorin Emirate, his family, and the entire Muslim Ummah. Ameen.

Sen. (Dr.) Abubakar Bukola Saraki
13th President of the Senate & Chairman of the 8th Session of the Nigerian National Assembly
