HON. ENGR. DOMINIC OKAFOR RESUMES LEGISLATIVE DUTIES AS HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES RECONVENES PLENARY

Abuja, June 2, 2026

Hon. Engr. Dominic Okafor, FNSE, Member Representing Aguata Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, on Tuesday resumed legislative activities as the Green Chamber reconvened plenary following the Eid-el-Kabir recess.

The sitting, presided over by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, marked the commencement of a new phase of legislative engagements focused on addressing pressing national challenges and advancing policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.

During the plenary, the House deliberated extensively on critical issues bordering on national security, public health, education, and citizens' participation in governance through legislative petitions.
Among the key resolutions adopted was a call on the Federal Government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts toward the rescue of victims of the Oriire School kidnapping, while taking proactive measures to prevent future attacks on educational institutions across the country. The House also urged swift intervention to secure the release of the 42 abducted M***a Ward school children in Askira-Uba Local Government Area and other Nigerians currently held captive by criminal elements.

Recognizing the importance of strengthening the nation's public health preparedness, lawmakers further resolved to urge the Federal Government to increase funding for the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to enhance its capacity to prevent, detect, and effectively respond to Ebola and other epidemic-prone diseases.

In furtherance of its legislative mandate, the House passed for second reading a Bill seeking to establish the School of Hospitality, Uzairue, Edo State, alongside another bill aimed at promoting educational and vocational development.

The Green Chamber also demonstrated its commitment to accountability and responsiveness by considering and adopting nineteen reports from the Committee on Public Petitions. Additionally, four new petitions submitted by citizens were formally received, reinforcing the House's role as a democratic institution through which Nigerians can seek redress on matters of public concern.

Plenary also witnessed notable political realignments within the House, as several lawmakers announced their resignation from their former political parties and declared affiliation with new platforms, reflecting ongoing developments within Nigeria's political landscape.

Speaking on the resumption of legislative activities, Hon. Dominic Okafor reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation of the people of Aguata Federal Constituency through active participation in lawmaking, oversight functions, and advocacy for policies that promote security, economic growth, infrastructure development, quality education, healthcare delivery, and improved living standards for constituents.

The lawmaker assured constituents that he remains steadfast in pursuing legislative initiatives and interventions that will contribute meaningfully to the development of Aguata Federal Constituency and the nation at large.

As the House continues its legislative calendar, Hon. Engr. Dominic Okafor FNSE pledged to work collaboratively with fellow lawmakers and relevant stakeholders in advancing laws and policies that strengthen democratic governance and deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians.

JUNE: A SEASON OF RENEWAL AND HOPE FOR AGUATA

Ụmụnne m ndị Aguata,

As we step into the month of June, I come to you with a heart full of gratitude and humility. The past weeks have been eventful, and I know many of you journeyed with me through the expectations and aspirations that defined the recent primaries. While the outcome may not have aligned with our collective hopes, it has neither diminished our resolve nor weakened our shared commitment to the progress and development of Aguata.

But let me remind you: setbacks are not the end of the story. They are pauses, not full stops. They are bends in the road, not the end of the journey. Like the farmer who plants in faith, even after a storm has swept through his field, we too must believe that new seeds of hope will sprout in due season.

I deeply appreciate your unwavering support, your prayers, and your kind words. You have shown me that leadership is not only about positions held, but about the bond between a leader and his people. That bond remains unbroken.

June is a fresh page. It is a month to heal, to rise, and to renew our strength. Let us carry forward the lessons of May, but leave behind its frustrations. Let us walk into June with courage, with faith, and with the conviction that brighter days are ahead.

I urge you to keep believing in the vision we share for Aguata, a vision of progress, unity, and dignity. Together, we will continue to build, to inspire, and to uplift.

May this new month bring peace to your homes, joy to your hearts, and success to your endeavors. And may we, as one family, continue to stand tall, knowing that our collective story is far greater than any single chapter.

With love and gratitude,

Hon. Engr. Dom Okafor, FNSE (Ezechinyelugo),
MHR, Aguata Federal Constituency,

CHILDREN'S DAY 2026 MESSAGE

Today, as we commemorate Children's Day 2026, I join millions of Nigerians and the global community in celebrating our children, the pride of our present and the promise of our future.

This special day offers us an opportunity to reflect on our collective responsibility to nurture, protect, educate, and empower every child.

Our children are not merely beneficiaries of today's investments; they are the leaders, innovators, professionals, entrepreneurs, and nation-builders who will shape the destiny of our communities, our state, and our country tomorrow.

I firmly believe that every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, security, moral guidance, and equal opportunities to develop their talents and realize their full potential. A society that prioritizes the welfare and development of its children lays a solid foundation for sustainable progress, peace, and prosperity.

As a father, community leader, and your representative in the House of Representatives, I remain deeply committed to supporting policies, programmes, and initiatives that advance the cause of children. We must continue to create an environment where our young people can dream without fear, learn without barriers, and grow into responsible and productive citizens.

To the children of Aguata Federal Constituency and Anambra State, I urge you to remain focused on your education, embrace discipline and integrity, respect your parents and teachers, and believe in yourselves. Your dreams are valid, your talents are valuable, and your future is bright. Never allow temporary challenges to limit your aspirations. Continue to strive for excellence, knowing that hard work, determination, and good character remain the surest pathways to success.

I also salute parents, guardians, teachers, faith-based institutions, traditional rulers, and all stakeholders who dedicate their time and resources to raising and mentoring our children. Your sacrifices and commitment play a vital role in shaping a generation capable of leading our society to greater heights.

As we celebrate today, let us renew our commitment to building a society where every child is safe, valued, educated, and empowered to succeed. Together, we can create a future that reflects the hopes, dreams, and limitless potential of our children.

To every child in Aguata Federal Constituency, Anambra State, and Nigeria at large, I wish you a joyful, inspiring, and memorable Children's Day celebration.

Happy Children's Day 2026.
