Peter Obi left office as Governor of Anambra State in 2014.
He has not been Governor for over 12 years.
He is not a Minister.
He is not a sitting Senator.
He is not controlling a state budget.
He is not collecting federal constituency allocations.
Yet, since 2023, there have been publicly reported donations and interventions running into over ā¦1 billion from Peter Obi across schools, universities, hospitals, nursing institutions and humanitarian causes.
And somehow, his wifeās handbag is what some people have chosen to make the biggest issue.
Really?
Letās talk about the interventions too.
In 2023 alone, there were reported donations to hospitals, nursing colleges, universities and victims of the Tudun Biri bombing, including ā¦40m to Faith Specialist Hospital, ā¦20m to Faith Foundation Mission Hospital/Nursing College, ā¦10m to Millennium College of Nursing Sciences, ā¦10m to Paul University, ā¦5m to victims and healthcare workers affected by the Kaduna/Tudun Biri bombing and several others.
Then came 2024, with more reported interventions running into hundreds of millions across hospitals, nursing schools and universities.
And the donations continued into 2025.
Now, Iām not saying Peter Obi should not be questioned. Every public figure should be questioned. If there are questions about any donation, expenditure or claim, ask them. Thatās accountability.
But letās be honest with ourselves.
If we are going to talk about the man, letās talk about the whole recordānot just the things that make good gossip.
You donāt have to support Peter Obi.
You donāt have to vote for Peter Obi.
You can disagree with him on politics, policies or anything else.
But if weāre going to have a serious conversation about leadership in Nigeria, letās talk about education, healthcare, humanitarian support, transparency and what people actually contribute to society.
Because at the end of the day, a handbag may trend for two days, but a hospital, a nursing school or an educational intervention can affect peopleās lives for years.
Letās learn to separate political criticism from political gossip.
That is the conversation I want to have.
