🌺 WOMEN AS NATION BUILDERS 🌺

Yesterday, I had the honor of hosting the 2025 Women’s August Meeting in Nkanu West, in partnership with the Office of the First Lady of Enugu State.

💡 Over 280 women from our 14 wards received empowerment packages - food items, clothing, and cash support to boost small-scale businesses.

Hearing women like Mrs. Ujunwa Ogbu describe the support as “a real lifeline” and Mrs. Josephine Nnamani say it “shows our leaders truly care for rural women” was truly inspiring.

Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive Nkanu West.

"THERE IS NO MAN IN ATTAKWU KINGDOM" ATTAKWU TRADITIONAL RULER DECLARES

Over the years one single man has pocketed Attakwu and her resources alone, stating that there is no man to challenge him.

The people of Attakwu Kingdom is calling for election and the same man,the traditional ruler of Attakwu Kingdom is insisting on imposing a caretaker committee on a community without conflict. A community whose PG has notified the ministry on his willingness to conduct election and subsequently hand over the leadership to anyone who would emerge as the winner of the oncoming election

It must be noted that the traditional ruler of Attakwu has handled the community resources without rendering account to the people of Attakwu Kingdom. He lavished the community wealth on his family's extravagant life style and declared that there is no man in Attakwu Kingdom who has the balls to ask questions.

He is currently matching his words with actions as he is bribing every corridor of power to pave way for his selfish ambitions.

One man with evil intent has refused to allow Attakwu breathe.

It must be recalled that immediately after Hon.Ikechukwu Eneh was sworn in as the President General of the great Attakwu Kingdom, the traditional ruler refused to relinquish power but acted both as the Igwe and President General, thereby making Hon.Ikechukwu Eneh(PG) a mere observer in his own office for more than 3 years.
What a usurper!

His hunger for power has pushed him to invite government to take over our Nyama sand beach, the only source of our people's survival. I personally saw people who depend on this sand to survive cry without any help. They cried and protested but no one seems to be listening or coming to their aid. A traditional ruler should care for his people but ours is after what he can get. What a tragedy!

Is there really no man in Attakwu Kingdom?

Is our traditional ruler correct in his statement?

Should we allow him to pocket Attakwu without questions?

If you are silent you are an enabler. Attakwu will be good in different hands not one man who want his will to be done in Attakwu Kingdom. "Kam shirikwaru Attakwu du ya dukwa mbomu" he always echoes though people may not know the true meaning of that statement. A habitual spell to keep Attakwu under his control.

It is this same traditional ruler that couldn't pay over 32 million naira electricity bill/energy consumed by the community. It is worthy to note that the community paid the said electricity levy but till today we are not demanding explanation to what happened to our 32 million naira and 7.5 million for Ndiagu .

The PG assumed office and cleared the 32 million naira accumulated by the Igwe. Should 32 million naira be put to drilling bore hole at least 6 out of 9 clans in Attakwu community will have one bore to their name. I think Hon Ikechukwu Eneh should be applauded for doing so much for the community but no he is not applauded by some few individuals who are demanding for sharing formula. As a leader Ikechukwu Eneh made the already existing bore hole nearer to the people by laying pipes to enable Ndi Attakwu have access to water. That project cost him millions of naira. What was the traditional ruler doing with the community money for over 13 years? Somebody should also add the 3 years he usurped without handing over power to Hon. Ikechukwu Eneh to make it 16 years of one man show. he reports only to himself . Off course there is no man in Attakwu. I'm sure you expect Ikechukwu Eneh to account for the 3 years your traditional ruler usurped and acted as the PG. His family were living large over the community resources. A man who left 32 million naira debt and 7.5 million respectively for the PG to inherit and subsequently pay should be resisted from having a grasp of power.

Infra are some of the scorecard of Hon. Ikechukwu Eneh,Attakwu President General

1. He cleared 32 million naira debt accumulated by the traditional ruler for Attakwu Ndi Uno. He cleared 7.5 million naira electricity debt for Ndiagu ,a debt accumulated by the same traditional ruler.
2.The PG built Ngene Uzo bridge and it was handled by a renown engineer. A project cost millions of naira.

3. He got Ndiagu Attakwu electrified which also cost a lot of money though that effort was later disorganized by the traditional ruler.
4.He completed Attakwu Civic Center when the traditional ruler refused to bring out the money given to him.

5. He laid pipes that brought the already existing bore hole drilled by Hon.Nnoli Nnaji nearer to the people of Attakwu Kingdom. A project that cost him millions of naira

The Town Union president notified the ministry of their willingness to conduct election ahead of time and also attended a pre-election meeting at the ministry which had over 98 percent of Attakwu people in attendance. Everyone in attendance demanded for election.
Deacon Okey Ogbodo, the commissioner for Local Government,Rural development and Chieftaincy Affairs instead of applauding the work well done by the PG of Attakwu Kingdom he colluded with the traditional ruler of Attakwu Kingdom to impose a caretaker committee on the people of Attakwu.
The reward for good work is more work but in Attakwu Kingdom embezzlers has no shame as they are still going about doing everything possible to pocket Attakwu Kingdom.

Is there really no man in Attakwu kingdom?
If the above is true then let us tie wrapper and follow the traditional ruler the only man in Attakwu Kingdom

Shii ana Ọkụnanọ ooo!!

Shii Ugwu Akegbe Ogwugwueze oooo!!

PRAYER

We are calling on the peace loving governor of Enugu state His Excellency Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to come to our rescue and call Deacon Okey Ogbodo the Honourable Commissioner to order. Please help us run a free and fair election and do not allow these power mongers to succeed.

Hon. ARUM Liberty(Ijele Nnukwummawu)

*THE CASE OF HRH IGWE GREG UGWU: HAS ENUGU STATE TRADITIONAL RULERS COUNCIL PATRONAGE LOST ITS MEANING?*

In every society - especially ours, where tradition is deeply revered - titles are not decorations. They are declarations of character, trust, and moral weight. That is why the recent designation of HRH Igwe Dr. Greg Ugwu as a patron in the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council demands a sober question in view of the crisis he is instigating in his community: By what measure was he found worthy?

A patron is not merely a title-holder. He is expected to be an elder among elders - an anchor in stormy times, a reconciler where division festers, and a compass that always points to justice. A patron must rise above personal ambition to reflect the values he was chosen to uphold.

Where then, in the conduct of Igwe Ugwu, do we find these virtues?

The ongoing crisis in Attakwu Akegbe Ugwu speaks louder than titles. The people, through due process and clear communication, informed the authorities about the expiration of their town union executive’s tenure. Elections were initiated. Nine village heads submitted their delegates - unified and without controversy. Yet, one lone dissenting voice - that of the traditional ruler - threw the entire process into disarray, with the help of the Commissioner for Chieftaincy/Traditional Ruler Development.

Instead of shepherding his people with wisdom, Igwe Ugwu chose interference over impartiality. He rejected consensus, questioned a valid constitution, resorted to litigation, and sought through political back channels — to impose loyal candidates. Even the courts did not affirm his claims.

A whole community now hangs in limbo, not for lack of clarity or procedure, but because one man insists on bending communal will to personal design.

That is not leadership. That is domination and autocracy.

And it is precisely the kind of behavior a patron is meant to restrain from, not personify.

Let us not forget: for over sixteen years, this same traditional ruler presided over a community without a town union. Only when the state government linked development funding to democratic structures did the people finally regain self-governance. To now attempt a rollback of that hard-won progress is both disheartening and dangerous.

Is this the legacy befitting one of the patrons of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council?

Even his emergence in 2002 was marred by unrest—an episode that left deep scars in Attakwu, some of which remain raw. History may not repeat itself, but it often rhymes—and we are hearing echoes again.

We must ask clearly, soberly, and without fear: Who recommended Igwe Greg Ugwu for such a revered role? On what criteria? Was his antecedent properly checked? Or was this simply a title given without scrutiny, without accountability, without wisdom?

Because when institutions elevate the wrong model, they do more than reward bad conduct—they weaken the moral spine of society. They whisper to the people that character is optional and consequences are negotiable. They turn honour into a prop.

A council of traditional rulers should be a sanctuary of wisdom, not a theatre of ambition. And if it must retain its dignity, its appointments must reflect principle, not proximity to power.

Do we still treat honour as sacred or has it become a souvenir for the influential?

Those who conferred this title must now reflect: If a man cannot bring peace to his own courtyard, how does he qualify to sit among those charged with guarding the peace of many?

The age of quiet nods and silent indulgence must end. The people of Attakwu and all lovers of truth across Enugu State deserve answers. Not to destroy, but to restore. Not to shame, but to set a standard.

Because the crown is not a weapon. It is a weight. And a patron, above all, must carry that weight with grace, justice, and unshakable integrity.
