NRC MD Dr. Kayode Opeifa Calls for Comprehensive National Transport Policy and Strategic Rail Master Plan at 11th Transport Day Lecture

The Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr Kayode Opeifa, has reiterated the urgent need for a holistic national transport policy and a strategic rail master plan to ensure the development of a sustainable and inclusive transportation system in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 11th Transport Day Lecture, Dr. Opeifa stressed that Nigeria must take deliberate steps to align its transport systems with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on accessibility, affordability, and environmental responsibility.

Dr. Opeifa also called for state-supported transport ministries, enhanced vehicle administration systems, and greater intergovernmental coordination to improve the regulatory and infrastructural framework of the nation’s transport sector.

The NRC MD praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold reforms and significant investments in rail infrastructure, noting that the initiatives are already transforming Nigeria’s transportation landscape.
