Yesterday, I attended the Stakeholders’ Summit organized by the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC). The summit provided a valuable platform for the commission’s leadership to engage with the people, understand their developmental aspirations, and design more impactful projects and implementation strategies.

The occasion also served as a convergence point for OSOPADEC, stakeholders from the mandate areas, and policy experts to exchange ideas and foster collaborative solutions for the accelerated development of the coastal region.

I commend the Chairman of OSOPADEC, Prince Biyi Poroye, for this initiative, as it has always been my firm belief that development programmes and projects must always reflect and respond to the needs of the people.

Ondo State Secures Federal Government Climate-Smart Public Toilet Scheme

The Ondo State Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has secured the Federal Government’s Climate-Smart Public Toilet Scheme as part of efforts to curb open defecation and improve sanitation across communities in the state.

The development was disclosed by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Tob Loko, who stated that the intervention aligns with the commitment of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to eliminate open defecation, enhance public hygiene, and improve the overall quality of life of residents.

Local Government Areas expected to benefit from the scheme include Ilaje, Irele, Ese-Odo, Ondo West, Idanre, Akure South, Owo, and others.

Dr. Loko also revealed that the state is set to roll out the Clean Air Programme, a statewide initiative aimed at reducing air pollution and promoting healthier environments in both urban and rural areas. The programme aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

The Climate-Smart Public Toilet Scheme is a private sector-driven partnership with the Ministry of Environment, designed to provide safe, dignified, and accessible sanitation facilities for residents who currently lack adequate toilet infrastructure across the state.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Government has called on stakeholders, development partners, and community members to support the initiatives, stressing that collective efforts remain crucial to improving environmental health and enhancing the quality of life of all residents.
