A Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the bail hearing of former governor Nasir El-Rufai to the first week of June 2026. Presiding judge Darius Khobo postponed ruling on the application, meaning El-Rufai will remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) pending the outcome.

El-Rufai was recently arraigned on an amended nine-count charge bordering on alleged fraud and abuse of office. Although he had earlier been granted bail in a separate case by a Federal High Court, with conditions including a ₦200 million bond, he was ordered to remain in custody until those conditions are met. His counsel, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the continued adjournment, describing it as politically motivated.

The case is expected to resume in June.

The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation following a tragic incident in which a 28-year-old man is alleged to have killed two of his siblings and a five-year-old girl in Okitipupa Local Government Area.

The incident reportedly occurred at the family residence, where the suspect is said to have forced entry into the apartment, secured the premises, and carried out the attack. Authorities were later alerted, and the matter was reported to the police. According to the suspect’s father, the individual had a history of substance abuse and had previously made threats against family members. He further alleged that the suspect had been arrested at an earlier time but was subsequently released prior to the incident.

Residents in the area also reported witnessing the suspect entering the premises before the event unfolded. The Police Public Relations Officer for the state confirmed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that due process would be followed to ensure accountability. Officials have reiterated their commitment to establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that justice is served.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it will not rely on artificial intelligence analysis or screenshots in its ongoing investigation into alleged digital impersonation linked to its chairman.

According to the Commission’s ICT Director, Lawrence Bayode, INEC is engaging security agencies and independent forensic experts to verify the authenticity of the accounts and content in question. He emphasised that conclusions would be based strictly on verifiable evidence rather than unconfirmed digital material.

Bayode cautioned against placing undue reliance on outputs generated by artificial intelligence tools, noting that such systems may produce inaccurate or misleading results. He stressed the need for proper verification before any conclusions are drawn.

The Commission further indicated that the investigation forms part of a broader effort to address rising concerns around digital impersonation and misinformation, particularly as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

INEC has maintained that its chairman does not operate a personal social media account and has dismissed the circulating claims as false, adding that efforts are underway to identify those responsible for the alleged impersonation.

Former England captain Wayne Rooney has stated that Manchester City possesses a psychological edge over Arsenal in the ongoing Premier League title race. Despite Arsenal leading the table by six points, having played a game more, Rooney believes City’s experience and composure under manager Pep Guardiola give them an advantage. He noted that City’s familiarity with winning titles allows them to remain calmer under pressure, while Arsenal may begin to doubt themselves during difficult periods.

He added that the upcoming fixture between both sides at the Etihad Stadium could prove decisive, suggesting that the winner would likely become favourites to secure the title. Rooney also remarked that a draw would be a favourable outcome for Arsenal, advising that they adopt a disciplined and resilient approach to contain City’s attacking threat.

Elsewhere, Rooney expressed concern over Tottenham Hotspur, who currently sit in the relegation zone. He described their recent performance as lacking intensity and warned that relegation would be disastrous for the club, particularly if they fail to secure an immediate return to the top flight.

The Federal Government has intensified its crackdown on terrorism financing following the release of a list naming 48 individuals and groups allegedly linked to such activities across the country. The list, published by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee, follows the conclusion of a recent mass trial involving over 500 suspects connected to the Boko Haram insurgency. According to authorities, 386 convictions were secured during the proceedings, with sentences ranging up to life imprisonment. Courts also recommended rehabilitation and deradicalisation measures for those convicted.

Among those named are already proscribed organisations, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ansaru, and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Also listed are Mr. Simon Ekpa, who was previously convicted in Finland on terrorism-related charges, and Mr. Tukur Mamu, currently facing prosecution in Nigeria over alleged involvement in terrorist operations.

The government has indicated plans to initiate extradition proceedings for suspects located outside the country, as part of broader efforts to bring all accused persons to justice. Officials maintain that the measures are intended to send a clear signal that involvement in terrorism and its financing will not be tolerated, while reinforcing ongoing national security efforts.

The Federal Government has directed that Nigerian passports be withdrawn from individuals who have legally renounced their citizenship.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, stated that the directive applies only after the President has approved the renunciation process. He explained that once an individual ceases to be a Nigerian citizen, they are no longer entitled to hold a Nigerian passport.
According to government officials, the measure is intended to strengthen the integrity of citizenship records, curb identity fraud, and enhance border security. It is also presented as part of broader reforms to Nigeria’s passport and visa administration system. The policy has prompted renewed debate over citizenship rights, national identity, and the practical enforcement of renunciation procedures.
