The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Chief Dr. Ighoyota Amori, PhD, today attended the official launching and flag-off of the Widows Support Group (WSG) at the City Boys Secretariat, Asaba, reaffirming his support for initiatives that promote the welfare, dignity and inclusion of widows across the state.

Speaking at the event, Chief Adviser Amori described the programme as a significant intervention, noting that “nobody prays to be a widow.” He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to widows, recalling the Governor’s assurance that he would be a husband to all widows in Delta State. Amori also highlighted ongoing government support, including monthly stipends and other welfare interventions, while expressing optimism that more widows across the state would be captured in the programme.

The event, organised by the State Coordinator of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Elder Dr. Isioma Okonta, was attended by the Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, and the General Manager, Delta State Social Investment Programme, Chief Dr. Henry Sakpra, among others. The ceremony also featured the inauguration of the State Executive Committee of the Widows Support Group and Local Government Area Coordinators, marking another step towards strengthening support and coordination for widows across Delta State.

AMORI RECEIVES WIDOWS SUPPORT GROUP, COMMENDS WELFARE INITIATIVE

The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator (Chief) Dr. Ighoyota Amori, has received the Widows Support Group led by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Social Investment Programmes and State Coordinator of the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme, Dr. Isioma Okonta, during a familiarisation visit to his office in Asaba.

The visit, which took place on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, was aimed at introducing the newly formed Widows Support Group to the Chief Adviser and informing him of its activities and plans ahead of the forthcoming political season.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Okonta said the group was established to mobilise widows across Delta State who, according to him,had benefited from or identified with the State Government’s interventions under the Widows Welfare Scheme.

He explained that while the existing scheme has enrolled 10,000 widows, the office maintains a wider database of more than 60,000 widows across the 25 local government areas of the state.

Okonta said the group was intended to provide a platform through which widows could collectively engage in activities and express their interest in the continuity of government programmes that have impacted their lives.

He noted that the Widows Welfare Scheme had provided monthly financial support and healthcare-related interventions for beneficiaries. Public reports on the scheme have also documented the State Government’s enrolment of widows in the contributory health insurance programme.

According to him, members of the group had been engaging with widows across the state and were interested in supporting the continuity of the programmes under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Dr. Okonta also formally invited the Chief Adviser to the inauguration of the Widows Support Group scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu Foundation Campaign Secretariat Hall, Asaba, at 11:00 a.m.

Responding, Senator Amori commended the group for identifying with the welfare of widows and acknowledged the significance of sustained government attention to vulnerable members of society.

The Chief Adviser recalled his longstanding interactions with widows in his political constituency and said he had observed the appreciation and interest generated among beneficiaries by government interventions targeted at them.

He commended Dr. Okonta and his team for expanding their engagement beyond the beneficiaries already captured under the existing programme, describing the effort to organise widows across the 25 local government areas as significant.

Senator Amori said the welfare of widows should remain a continuous concern, stressing that government interventions designed to support vulnerable citizens should be sustained and improved.

He particularly commended Governor Oborevwori for continuing the Widows Welfare Scheme and expressed hope that further improvements would be made to the programme.

“Not just because of the relationship or fellowship, this programme is worth doing and should be encouraged,” Senator Amori said, stressing the importance of ensuring that widows feel that government cares about their welfare.

He also encouraged the group to continue taking its message to communities across the state and making widows aware of programmes designed to support them.

Senator Amori assured the delegation of his presence at the inauguration on Monday, subject to his schedule, and thanked the group for the invitation and for its commitment to the welfare of widows.

The Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme was introduced by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta state; as part of the state’s social investment interventions for vulnerable citizens. Available public records show that the scheme was designed to provide financial and healthcare support to eligible widows across the state.

ANCOPSS DELTA STATE HAILS AMORI'S EDUCATION LEGACY, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR OBOREVWORI, TINUBU 2027 RE-ELECTION

The executive of the All Nigeria Congregation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Delta State Chapter, led by its President, Dibie Lucky-Jones, today paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Sen. Chief Ighoyota Amori, PhD, at his office in Asaba.

The Chief Adviser, who served as Delta State's pioneer Commissioner for Education from 1999 to 2003, received the delegation with characteristic warmth and hospitality.

It will be recalled that at a time when there were no separate ministries for Primary, Secondary, or Higher Education, Sen. Amori singlehandedly superintended all levels of the education sector with remarkable vision; building four tertiary institutions across the state and delivering quality educational infrastructure to primary and secondary schools statewide.

Speaking during the visit, Dibie Lucky-Jones and members of the ANCOPSS executive hailed Sen. Amori for his enduring contributions to education in the state, describing his tenure as Commissioner as a benchmark for purposeful leadership in the sector.

The delegation also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for key welfare interventions for workers in the education sector, particularly the approval of the 13th month salary for civil servants and the elevation of primary school teachers' retirement grade level to 17; a long-standing demand of teachers' unions in the state that had remained unresolved for years. The principals described both measures as evidence of a government genuinely committed to the welfare and dignity of its workforce.

Responding, Sen. Amori reassured the delegation of the government's continued commitment to the welfare of its workers, noting that such interventions were part of deliberate efforts to increase the purchasing power of the people. He explained that this, in turn, would improve the state's economy and support a better livelihood for many homes and businesses across Delta State.

In appreciation of these strides in governance and education, the ANCOPSS Delta State executive pledged their overwhelming support for the re-election of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as governor of Delta state and Sen. Bola Tinubu as president in 2027 general elections.

The visit stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of purposeful leadership Sen. Amori established in Delta State's education sector; a legacy that continues to inspire confidence in the administration's commitment to education under the leadership of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State.

ABUNDANT HARVEST : OBOREVWORI’S SUPPORT PROPELS AMORI TO N51.540 MILLION SUCCESS AT 2026 NIGER DELTA ETHNIC NATIONALITIES HARVEST THANKSGIVING

The 2026 Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Harvest Thanksgiving, Warri Diocese, held on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, closed on a note of resounding triumph, as the event realised a total sum of N51,540,000 (Fifty-One Million, Five Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira), under the theme “Harvest of Abundance.”

The colourful thanksgiving, which drew dignitaries, clergy, and sons and daughters of the Niger Delta from far and wide, was coordinated by Sen. Chief Dr. Ighoyota Amori, Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, who was reappointed earlier this year to steer the annual harvest to even greater heights; a mandate he has, once again, delivered on with distinction.

Speaking shortly after the closing ceremony, an elated Sen. Amori attributed the extraordinary outcome squarely to the steadfast backing of His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose goodwill, he said, set the tone for the generosity that followed.

“This success story belongs, first and foremost, to His Excellency, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori,” Sen. Amori declared. “It was through his unwavering support and encouragement that we were able to raise the sum of N51,540,000 for this year’s harvest. His Excellency’s belief in this cause, and in the unity of our people, is what makes gatherings such as this possible.”

He continued: “Governor Oborevwori has shown, time and again, that he carries the interest of the Niger Delta people close to his heart. I remain deeply grateful to him for standing behind this thanksgiving with such grace and generosity, and I dare say that without his support, we could not have achieved a harvest of this magnitude.”

Sen. Amori further expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for the successful outcome of the event, describing the outcome as a true reflection of the theme, “Harvest of Abundance,” and a testament to the enduring spirit of unity, faith, and generosity among the Niger Delta ethnic nationalities.

Rounding off his remarks, Sen. Amori commended the sacrificial giving of every contributor listed above, noting that their generosity, no matter the size, formed the pillars of the harvest’s success.

“To every single person and organisation whose name appears on this list, I say a very big thank you,” he said. “Your kindness has again proven that when the Niger Delta family comes together, no goal is beyond our reach. I equally thank the parish priest of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Benin City, and the entire planning committee for a truly memorable thanksgiving.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to support next year’s coordinator, as his tenure ends this years, with the same dedication and transparency that has come to define his stewardship, while reiterating his gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the trust reposed in him.

St. Paul Catholic Church’s Niger Delta Ethnic Cultural Harvest thanksgiving recorded its highest-ever turnout on Sunday, as Sen. Ighoyota Amori, Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, mobilized 120 contributors; including the Delta State Governor, his deputy, sitting senators, federal lawmakers, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, political associates to raise a record-breaking N51,540,000 for the church’s multi-purpose hall project.

The sum, nearly triple last year’s contribution of a little over N20,000,000, was presented to the parish priest as a signed cheque by Sen. Amori, who has coordinated the annual thanksgiving for the second consecutive year.

Reading from a six-page list of contributors and amount contributed during the service, Sen. Amori acknowledged Delta State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme; former Delta State Governors Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa and Chief James Ibori; Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo; Senator representing Delta South and Central respectively, Sen. Joel Thomas-Onowakpo and Sen. Ede Dafinone; Member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu; Member representing Isoko Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko; Member representing Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Francis Waive; immediate past Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro; founding leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Chief O’tega Emerhor; Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo; former speakers of the Delta state house of assembly; Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei and Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya; former chairman of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Hon. Michael Diden.

Others are managing director, Danmotech, Chief Daniel Omoyibo; Oil mogul and businessman, Chief Broderick Arigbodi; Chairman of New Dynamic Forum, Sir Sheba Palama; legal luminary and business, Chief Andrew Oru; Professor and consultant of Medical Parasitologist at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Wellington Oyibo; the eight local government council chairmen of Delta Central, commissioners both current and former, other political appointees both current and former, royal fathers, political associates, staff of the Office of the Chief Adviser also featured prominently on the list, among others, he read out meticulously.

The announcement of each name and contribution was met with sustained cheers from the congregation, culminating in what parishioners described as an unprecedented outcome for the event.

Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Charles Omogiate, commended Sen. Amori’s outreach in his gratitude message to the coordinators. “The Chief Adviser went all out in reaching out to his political associates and friends for their financial contributions to ensure this year’s event surpassed last year,” he said.

In a moment that reflected the congregation’s confidence in his leadership, Sen. Amori’s announcement that this would be his final year as coordinator, made so that “others can also have the opportunity to contribute their quota” was firmly rejected by the congregation, who responded with a chorus of “not approved, you have to continue.”

Speaking after the presentation, Sen. Amori paid tribute to Governor Oborevwori’s backing of the initiative. “The governor’s leadership has made it possible for a wider contribution and participation this year,” he said, noting that the governor supported this year’s thanksgiving “overwhelmingly, more than he did last year.” He extended his profound appreciation to all who contributed, describing the harvest as “a great appreciation to God for all His mercy for the Niger Delta all through the year.”

The thanksgiving service was themed “Harvest of Abundance”. Earlier, Very Revd Fr. John-Paul Ashoro preaching on 1 Kings 17 and the widow of Zarephath, urged the congregation to sow in faith and gratitude toward the multi-purpose hall project. In his message, Fr. Ashoro specifically commended Sen. Amori for his “steadfastness and commitment in using his influence and position in ensuring projects of the church are successful.”

With the multi-purpose hall project now significantly boosted, parishioners say the record-breaking contribution stands as a testament that God continues to raise people of influence and authority who are willing to devote their time and resources to church projects that members of the parish, on their own, would have found difficult to accomplish.

…Chief Adviser to the Delta State Governor, serving a second consecutive year as Coordinator, has spent months rallying donors and stakeholders ahead of the cultural celebration

By Joelson Wilson

Sen. Chief Ighoyota Amori, PhD, Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, is set to lead the 2026 Niger Delta Cultural Thanksgiving Day this Sunday, having served since June as Coordinator of the Niger Delta Ethnic Harvest for the second year running, the planning committee have confirmed.

The event, themed “Harvest of Abundance,” is scheduled to hold by 9am on Sunday, 13th September 2026, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, and will bring together indigenes, well-wishers, and stakeholders from across the Niger Delta region for a day of thanksgiving, cultural celebration, and communal solidarity.

Sen. Amori’s reappointment marks the second consecutive year he has been entrusted with coordinating the annual celebration, following his widely commended stewardship of the 2025 Ethnic Pre-Harvest Thanksgiving, an outing many participants described as one of the most memorable and successful editions of the event in recent years.

Since his appointment in June 2026, Sen. Amori has worked tirelessly alongside the planning committee and stakeholders to put the finishing touches to arrangements ahead of Sunday’s event, coordinating donations and rallying support to ensure a seamless and befitting celebration.

Speaking as final preparations reach completion, Sen. Amori expressed gratitude to the Parish and reaffirmed his commitment to the region’s cultural values.

“It is a profound honour to once again be called upon to coordinate this cherished celebration of our heritage,” Amori said. “The Niger Delta Ethnic Harvest is more than a thanksgiving service; it is a reminder of who we are as a people: resilient, grateful, and bound together by shared history and shared destiny. Over the past months, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that this year’s edition, themed ‘Harvest of Abundance,’ lives up to the expectations of our people, and I am confident it will be a resounding success. So many things have taken place this year and God has been faithful in them all”

Sen. Amori has continued to build a reputation as a bridge-builder within Delta State’s political and cultural landscape, actively supporting initiatives that promote unity, heritage preservation, and grassroots engagement across the state. His consistent involvement in the Niger Delta Ethnic Harvest reflects his broader commitment to preserving indigenous traditions while fostering goodwill among communities within and beyond Delta State.

The planning committee have called on well-meaning individuals, corporate bodies, and friends of the Niger Delta to support this year’s celebration, noting that all contributions towards the event will be formally acknowledged and announced during the programme.

THE VOICE THAT BUILDS: AMORI HAILS ANIAGWU, CELEBRATES A LIFE OF SERVICE TO DELTA STATE

The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Sen. Chief Ighoyota Amori, PhD, has felicitated with the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, on the occasion of his birthday anniversary, describing him as a dedicated public servant whose career has consistently reflected competence, loyalty, and a deep commitment to the Delta State project.

In a congratulatory message issued by his Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joelson Wilson, Sen. Amori commended Aniagwu’s journey from journalism into public service, noting that his years as Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and now as a two-time Commissioner under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, have positioned him as one of the most consistent and effective voices in Delta State governance.

“Charles Aniagwu belongs to that rare class of public officers who have mastered the art of speaking for government while also delivering visible results on the ground,” Amori said. “As Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads and Public Information, he has combined the responsibility of explaining government policy with the duty of building the roads that connect our rural communities to opportunity. That is no small feat, and it speaks to his diligence and versatility.”

The Chief Adviser recalled Aniagwu’s steady oversight of rural road projects across the state, including recently completed and ongoing works such as the Emevor-Orogun Road in Isoko North and the Obi-Ibabu Road in Ndokwa West, as concrete evidence of Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda taking shape in communities that had long been underserved.

“Beyond the microphones and the media briefings, Charles has quietly supervised the delivery of durable rural infrastructure that has changed the everyday reality of our people,” Amori noted. “That is the mark of a Commissioner who understands that public communication and public service must go hand in hand.”

Amori also referenced Aniagwu’s recent recognition as the 2026 Media Icon of the Year by the Delta Icons of Goodwill Awards (DIGA), describing the honour as a fitting testament to a career built on integrity and effective communication.

“This latest recognition only confirms what those of us who have worked closely with government already know,” Amori said. “Charles Aniagwu has, over the years, proven himself to be both the voice that builds and the builder who speaks. Few public officers manage to wear both hats with such ease and credibility.”

The Chief Adviser prayed for Aniagwu’s continued strength, wisdom, and good health, expressing confidence that he would keep serving Delta State and its people with the same passion and dedication that have defined his public life so far.

“I say happy birthday to a worthy colleague and a true son of Delta State. May this new age bring you renewed vigour to serve our dear state even more meaningfully,” Amori stated.

He urged Deltans to join him in celebrating Aniagwu, describing him as an asset to the Oborevwori administration and to the state at large.
