SURPRISE GIFT TO LECTURERS . HALAL OR HARAM!!!

Gift is a giving away of such a thing from which the receiver can draw benefit. In islam , there are quite number of Hadith where the prophet encourage us to give gift to one another as it strengthen mutual love .
Where the gift is made to someone in the position of authority , it is considered as bribe , e.g to judge, office holders, teachers, lecturers etc.
A gift was made to Umar ibn Abdul'aziz who rejected it , they said to him , Oh Umar , gift was given to the prophet and he accepted it. Umar replied that , to him(SAW) was a gift but to us is a bribe .
In another Hadith, the prophet reprimanded one who was sent to collect zakkat and when he came back to the prophet he said this is for you and this is for me as a gift . The prophet aggressively replied that , why one should not sit in his mother's or father's home to see if such gift will be made to him.
To this end one scholar, Imam Ghazali, said one should imagine himself , if such gift can be made to him when he is at home not in that position, by that person, is allowed for him to receive such gift.

To our dear students in the university and other institution of learning, who are in the habit of gifting the lecturer.
What was your intention when you are making that gift?

Imagine yourself, if that lecturer is at home not in that position, will you still make that gift to him?
If yes , how many of your primary school teachers have you ever visit and make that kind of gift?
Or is it that those are different and superior to those that taught you ABCD?

And to our dear lecturers who regards such gift as honour. Now sit and think, how many of your students who have made it in life visit or even call you to hear from you?
Do you think these are different from others?
Can't you think that, those students made that gift to you to corrupt your mind?
But just imagine yourself that you are at home, will these people bother to made that gift to you.
