The People’s Democratic Party National Youth Movement (PDP-NYM), Bauchi State Chapter strongly condemns the brutal and senseless killing of 16 innocent people in Edo State, Nigeria. This horrific act of violence is not only an attack on the victims and their families but also on the peace and security of our nation.

We call on security agencies to swiftly investigate this heinous crime and bring the perpetrators to justice. The blood of the innocent must not be shed in vain. Justice must prevail to ensure such barbaric acts do not continue to threaten our communities.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stand in solidarity with the people of Edo State during this difficult time. We urge the government at all levels to take decisive action in protecting the lives and property of citizens, as security remains a fundamental right of every Nigerian.

We demand urgent intervention and call on all peace-loving Nigerians to unite against violence in our society.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE PEOPLE'S DEMOCRATIC PARTY NATIONAL YOUTH MOVEMENT (PDP-NYM) BAUCHI CHAPTER ON THE DECLARATION OF STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RIVERS STATE AND THE SUSPENSION OF SENATOR NATASHA AKPOTI

The People's Democratic Party National Youth Movement (PDP-NYM), Bauchi Chapter, vehemently condemns the unconstitutional and undemocratic actions taken by the current administration of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State and the politically motivated suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti by the Nigerian Senate.

The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State is nothing but an abuse of executive power, a direct assault on the democratic rights of the people, and a blatant attempt to subvert the will of the citizens. Rather than addressing governance challenges through democratic means, this administration has resorted to strong-arm tactics that undermine the principles of federalism, justice, and the rule of law. The people of Rivers State must not be subjected to dictatorship under the guise of national security. We reject this unlawful act and call on all democratic forces to resist this dangerous precedent.

Similarly, the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti by the Nigerian Senate is a clear indication that democracy is under siege in Nigeria. Senator Akpoti has been a strong voice for justice, equity, and good governance. Her unlawful suspension is nothing but a witch-hunt aimed at silencing dissenting voices in the legislature. This action erodes the fundamental principles of representative democracy and confirms that the Senate is being used as a tool for political suppression rather than serving the interests of Nigerians.

We, the PDP National Youth Movement in Bauchi, stand firmly against these undemocratic moves. We call on all Nigerians to rise and defend democracy before it is completely eroded. We demand:

1. The immediate reversal of the illegal state of emergency in Rivers State.

2. The immediate reinstatement of Senator Natasha Akpoti and an end to the suppression of lawmakers who speak for the people.

3. That the international community take note of the ongoing assault on democracy in Nigeria and hold the government accountable for these abuses.

Nigeria belongs to all of us, not to a select few who wish to rule by force and intimidation. The PDP-NYM Bauchi Chapter remains committed to upholding the democratic ideals that our nation was founded upon. We will not stand by while tyranny replaces democracy.

RE: NOTICE OF 99TH NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING

Distinguished members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) may recall that after due deliberation by Party leaders, Stakeholders and relevant Organs of the Party, the NEC meeting was scheduled to hold on Wednesday, March 13, 2025.

However, following emerging issues including the need to conclude our pending Zonal, State, L.G.A and Ward Congresses as well as to allow for further consultation to ensure a hitch-free conduct of the meeting especially with regard to other proposed activities of our Party, the NWC after due consultation with leaders, stakeholders and relevant Organs of the Party including the Board of Trustees (BoT) the PDP Governors’ Forum and the PDP National Assembly Caucus hereby wishes to notify distinguished members of NEC that the 99th NEC meeting earlier scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, 2025 has been unavoidably shifted to Thursday, May 15, 2025.

All NEC Members should please note the change of date and be guided accordingly.

The NWC sincerely regrets any inconveniences this change of date will cause Distinguished members of NEC.

PDP Postpones South South Zonal Congress
…South East/North East Zonal Congresses to Hold as Scheduled

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the postponement of the South South Zonal Congress of our great Party earlier scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

The NWC however confirms that the South East and North East Zonal Congresses will hold as already scheduled on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Party’s Zonal Headquarters in Enugu and Bauchi States respectively.

The postponement of the South South Congress is necessitated by the need for further consultation on critical issues relating to the smooth conduct of the Congress in the Zone.

The NWC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement of the South South Zonal Congress. A new date will be communicated in due course.

All aspirants, critical stakeholders, leaders and members of our Party; the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies should note the postponement of the South South Zonal Congress and the conduct of the South East and North East Zonal Congresses on Saturday, February 22, 2025 and be guided accordingly.

PDP Mourns Elder Statesman Edwin Clark
…Says He Was a True Defender of the People

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deeply mourns the death of nationalist, elder Statesman, former Federal Commissioner of Information, foremost crusader of social justice in Nigeria and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), Chief Edwin Clark describing it as a national loss.

Chief Edwin Clark was a very bold lawyer, forthright politician, educationist and dependable leader who stood for the right and wellbeing of the people and fought as an unrelenting advocate for justice, equity and fairness in the country.

He was an outstanding voice in the demand for true federalism, resource control, openness in governance and prudent management of the country’s resources which are key elements for the much-desired mutual respect, trust, unity, stability, peaceful co-existence and rapid development in a multi-ethnic country such as Nigeria, where every section is enabled to contribute its quota with emphasis on the principle of derivation.

Through the years as an independence agitator, Councillor, student activist, member of the nationalist National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC), Midwestern Commissioner of Education and later, Finance, national executive member of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), Federal Commissioner of Information and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Clark remained at the forefront of various national reforms, where he demonstrated that the essence of leadership is in the pursuit of the good of others.

Our Party acknowledges Chief Clark’s advisory roles to the President Goodluck Jonathan-led PDP government which contributed immensely to the success of that administration in its delivery of unprecedented socio-economic, infrastructural development, employment, business opportunities resulting in better living standard for Nigerians.

Indeed, Chief Clarks death is a huge national loss as he passed on at a time our nation and humanity needed his wise counsel and firm voice of direction the most.

Though our Party mourn, we celebrate Chief Clark as a great Nigerian whose legacies would remain indelible and continue to inspire generations to come.

The PDP commiserates with the Clark family, the Government and people of Delta State, the entire Niger Delta region and prays to God to grant Chief Clark eternal rest and to his family and loved ones, the fortitude to bear this great loss.

The conclave, which transpired at the party's state PDP secretariat Yan'doka Road, Bauchi, was meticulously orchestrated to facilitate profound discourse and synergy among party leaders. The overarching objective was to ensure a harmonized, strategic, and efficacious approach toward the fulfillment of the PDP’s political agenda and aspirations in Bauchi.
