ELEMURE OF EMURE-ILE KINGDOM JOINS ROYAL FATHERS TO CELEBRATE GRAND OLOJO FESTIVAL 2026 IN ILE-IFE

His Royal Majesty, Oba Bankole Adeyefa II, the 25th Elemure of Emure-Ile Kingdom, joined other distinguished Royal Fathers from across Yorubaland to celebrate the Grand Olojo Festival 2026 in Ile-Ife, the cradle of Yoruba civilisation.

It was a great privilege and honour for the Elemure to join in celebrating His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ọjájá II, the Ooni of Ile-Ife, alongside other revered traditional rulers and eminent personalities from across Yorubaland.

The gathering was more than a celebration of culture; it was a profound reflection of the rich history, heritage, traditions and enduring unity that bind the Yoruba people together.

EMURE-ILE: A KINGDOM WITH DEEP ROOTS IN ILE-IFE

The participation of the Elemure at the Grand Olojo Festival holds a special historical significance, considering the deep ancestral connection between Emure-Ile Kingdom and Ile-Ife.

According to the traditional history of Emure-Ile, the Kingdom traces its origin to Ulode, now known as Ilode Quarter in Ile-Ife, from where the founder of Emure-Ile Kingdom, Oba Abaidu Oighofen Ajaloron, began his historic journey.

Ajaloron Oighofen, traditionally regarded as a grandson of Oduduwa, was said to have been a mysterious child born at Ulode in Ile-Ife. According to oral tradition, he could not be beholden by anyone in his cradle because of the florescent necklace around his neck — hence the names “Oighofen” and “Aja Lo Run.”

At the age of 24, around 964 A.D., Ajaloron Oighofen embarked on his historic journey from Ile-Ife towards Uli-Useri Ala, otherwise known as ATA, where Emu-Eru, a pillar of stone, was planted.

This historic account places the origin of Emure-Ile at well over a millennium ago, representing a heritage that has endured through generations and remains an important part of the Kingdom’s identity and traditional history.

Therefore, the Elemure’s presence in Ile-Ife during the Grand Olojo Festival was not merely ceremonial. It was also a symbolic return to a place deeply connected to the ancestral history of Emure-Ile Kingdom.

The occasion once again provided an opportunity to celebrate the shared ancestry, cultural values and historical ties that continue to unite the various kingdoms and traditional institutions across Yorubaland.

In the photograph alongside the Elemure are:
Oba Adeleke Adefemi Adegbite Adedoyin II, Owa-Ale Adimula of Ikare-Akoko Kingdom, Oba Ademola Adebiyi Oyinbade Olanipekun III, Oloba of Uso and Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II, Arujale of Okeluse.

The Grand Olojo Festival 2026 therefore served as another remarkable occasion for the celebration of Yoruba heritage, royal institution, ancestral connections and cultural unity.
