APPEAL FOR NKANU EAST CHAIRMANSHIP TO BE CEDED TO IHUOKPARA WARD
Today, 21st May 2026, I write as Nnamani Nonyelum Benjamin, President General of Ihuokpara Town Union, to my brothers and sisters, men and women of goodwill in Nkanu East Local Government Area.
Over time, I have written several open letters to His Excellency, Dr. Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah our amiable and working Governor of Enugu State and respected leader, on why the position of Nkanu East Local Government Chairmanship should, in the spirit of equity, fairness, and justice, be ceded to Ihuokpara Ward.
Today, I extend this appeal to my fellow political stakeholders in Nkanu East. Let me state clearly that this agitation is not born out of selfishness, bias, or personal interest, but rather from a sincere, selfless, and objective desire to see justice prevail in our local political arrangement.
In my previous communications, I highlighted the communities and wards that have had the privilege of producing chairmen in Nkanu East. I also noted that some communities that have already benefited from this exalted office, and even those who have had the opportunity once, are still agitating to occupy the position the second time.
Comrades and compatriots, Ihuokpara has not tasted this opportunity even once.
For over thirty (30) years of the creation of this LGA, Ihuokpara has remained loyal, supportive, peaceful, and committed to the growth and political stability of Nkanu East. We have stood with successive administrations and supported leadership across divides with the hope that one day, our own sacrifice and loyalty would be remembered.
Our agitation, therefore, is simple: let Ihuokpara be given the opportunity to taste this leadership position just once.
This is not a call for division; rather, it is a call for justice, inclusion, fairness, and political balance. We believe that giving Ihuokpara this chance will further strengthen unity and deepen the sense of belonging among all communities in Nkanu East.
I therefore humbly appeal to all political stakeholders, Traditional rulers, President Generals, opinion leaders, elders, youth, women, and lovers of fairness in Nkanu East to support this just cause.
Support Ihuokpara Ward for Nkanu East Chairmanship — for equity, fairness, and justice.

AN APPEAL FOR THE CHAIRMANSHIP POSITION OF NKANU EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL TO BE CEDED TO IHUOKPARA COMMUNITY
Your Excellency,
Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah
Executive Governor, Enugu State.
Lion Building, government House Enugu,
Enugu State.
Sir,
We, the people of Ihuokpara Community in Nkanu East Local Government Area, humbly and respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to consider ceding the next Chairmanship position of Nkanu East Local Government Council to Ihuokpara Ward in the spirit of equity, fairness, justice, and inclusiveness.
It is worthy of note that the present Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Council is from Ugbawka in Nkanu East South. By the existing political understanding and the principle of balanced power rotation within the Local Government, it is only fair and just that the next Chairmanship position should rotate to Nkanu East North.
Furthermore, Nkanu East-North is made up of six (6) political wards, out of which four wards have at various times produced Chairmen of the Local Government Council. The wards and beneficiaries are listed below:
1. Amechi Idodo/Oruku Ward
(a). Hon. Ejike Ani — Served
2. Amankanu/Ubahu Ward
(a). Pst. Sam Iyiogwe — Served
3. Akpofu/Isienu Amagunze Ward
(a). Hon. Laz Nnaji — Served
(b). Hon. Frank Anioma — Served
(c). Hon. Okey Mbah — Served
4. Ohuani/Onichagu Ward
(a). Hon. Ikechukwu Ubagu — Served
The remaining wards yet to enjoy this opportunity are:
1. Ihuokpara Ward — Nil
2. Owo Ward — Nil
From the foregoing analysis, it becomes evident that Ihuokpara Ward has remained patient, loyal, supportive, and politically committed over the years without occupying the Chairmanship position since the creation of Nkanu East Local Government Area. Ihuokpara Community shares a boundary with Amagunze, the Headquarters of Nkanu East Local Government Area, and has consistently supported successive administrations and political leaders in the Local Government and the State at large.
Our people have demonstrated uncommon loyalty, peace, unity, and commitment to the progress of the APC-led administration
in Enugu State under your purposeful leadership.
We therefore passionately appeal to our brothers and neighbours across Nkanu East North to support the aspiration of Ihuokpara Ward for the forthcoming Chairmanship position in the interest of fairness, unity, and political inclusion.
Our confidence remains high in Your Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, whom we know to be a grassroots politician, a fair-minded leader, and a man who believes strongly in justice and equitable distribution of political opportunities.
As the President General of Ihuokpara Community, I humbly plead that the Chairmanship position of Nkanu East Local
Government Council be graciously ceded to Ihuokpara Ward.
May God continue to grant Your Excellency wisdom and strength as you continue to lead Enugu State to greater heights.
Yours faithfully,
Nnamani Nonyelum Benjamin
President General,
Ihuokpara Community,
Nkanu East L.G.A., Enugu State.
