Enugu state Government through the Beyond Disability Project flags off the distribution of assistive devices to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in enugu state

…..as state project coordinator, Chizoba Lucy Edeh hails Gov. Mbah’s special attention to PWDs in Enugu state

March 19th, 2026 will remain a day to remember for the PWD community in Enugu state as the state Government through the Beyond Disability Project procured and distributed several assistive devices to persons with disabilities across the 17 LGAs in the state. The devices which includes wheelchairs, Crutches, Walkers, hearing aids, White canes and other mobility devices were handed over to the joyous beneficiaries at the Dome Hall, ICC, Enugu.

In her welcome address, the state project coordinator of Beyond Disability Project, Miss Chizoba Lucy Ede appreciated his excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his inclusive and intentional support for persons with disabilities in enugu state. She stated that the state government has shown uncommon commitment in changing the narrative of PWDs in enugu state from dependency to becoming social and economically independent through the state’s various supports & human capital development initiatives. She mentioned that PWDs in enugu state has continued to enjoy preferential support from the state government through the office.

Speaking during the flag off, the Secretary to the state government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia who was represented by Barr. Juliet Okonkwo (SSA to the Governor on Legal Matters and inter ministerial affairs) stated that the wellbeing of persons with disabilities is at the core of the disruptive vision of the state as well as the renewed hope agenda. He mentioned that His excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah is disability friendly which is evident in his his quick adoption and consequent support of the Beyond Disability Project in enugu state, as well as prompt fulfillment of his promise to the enugu disability community by creating and inaugurating the Enugu state Disability Commission.

In a separate speech, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDG, Engr. Mrs Onyinye Akubuilo reassured them that the state Government will continue to support initiatives and programs that empowers and elevates the conditions of PWDs in the state. She charged them to continue to see ability in their disabilities.

Several goodwill addresses were delivered by key stakeholders including, Mrs Onyinye Mamah (Women support Women initiative), Engr. Chizoba Itodo and the representative of Rev Amb Ijeoma Madueke(DG, African Mothers and Humanitarian foundation)

The Enugu state Beyond Disability project has continued to serve as a formidable vehicle through which the state government is reaching the least disabled person in the state.

Truly, the tomorrow of enugu PWDs is here!
