BRIEF HISTORY
Ecumenical Centre for justice and Peace (ECJP) a non-governmental organization based in Gboko, Benue State was established in 1996 by concerned Christian resolved to respond to the violent crisis so prevalent in Nigeria. Operationally, ECJP is a state based organization but has strategically decided to focus on a limited number of local Government Areas. The Local Government Areas wh
ere the organization activities cover are Gboko, Buruku, Tarka, Katsina-Ala, Ushongo, Ukum, Kwande, Oju and Otukpo. Since its establishment, ECJP has been involved with a number of networks both locally and internationally. At the local front, ECJP has been partnering with organizations such as;
a) CRUDAN - Jos - for networking and information sharing. b) BENGONET -Makurdi - for networking; information sharing and programme implementation. These relationships and networks have helped ECJP to learn more about development process as well as acquire skills required for effective project implementation. It is these skills that have made it possible for ECJP to establish links with external donor agencies and internal NGOs. ECJP has been working in collaboration with funding agencies such as British Council USAID/OTI, DFID, among others, in the areas of democratization, peace building initiatives and conflict management. Others are Community Development Project of Canada and Christian Reformed World Relief Committee (CRWRC) of North-America. In the area of health we have received support from International centre for AIDs Care and Treatment Programs (ICAP) and Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) for implementation of OVC, HBC/Palliative Care, HIV counselling and Referral linkages between the communities and ICAP supported facilities in Benue State.
