HONOURABLE BOLANLE AMINAT SARUMI-ALIYU (BASA)
PDP Candidate, Oyo South Senatorial District
As we continue to introduce our candidates to the people, we present Honourable Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA), a humanitarian, philanthropist and public servant whose commitment to community development and the welfare of the people spans many years.
BASA is the daughter of the late Honourable Alli Balogun Sarumi, popularly known as ALLY BAY, who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency and was also a former candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District. She comes from a family with a longstanding connection to public service and community engagement.
She attended St. Louis Secondary School, Mokola, Ibadan, before furthering her education in England, where she pursued her university education.
A LIFE OF HUMANITARIAN SERVICE
According to her public record and the accounts of her supporters, BASA's humanitarian journey began from a young age, when she was already involved in feeding and financially supporting people within her neighbourhood.
Her commitment to humanity later expanded into organised community interventions, including community libraries where children can borrow books and return them, free medical outreaches for children and elderly citizens, youth empowerment programmes, skills-acquisition initiatives with training and tools, and talent-development programmes designed to give young people opportunities to showcase their abilities.
FROM POLITICS TO PUBLIC SERVICE
In 2019, BASA contested for the position of Governor of Oyo State under the Peoples Democratic Party. Following the election, she joined the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, where she served as Special Adviser on Diaspora Affairs.
During her tenure, she was involved in efforts to assist and protect Nigerian citizens in different countries, extending her interventions beyond Oyo State to Nigerians in the diaspora.
In 2023, she sought the PDP ticket to represent Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives but did not emerge as the party's candidate after the primary election.
Today, Honourable Bolanle Aminat Sarumi-Aliyu (BASA) is the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, seeking the mandate to serve the people at the National Assembly.
A CANDIDATE WITH A PEOPLE-CENTRED VISION
BASA's political identity is strongly connected to humanitarian service, youth development, healthcare support, education, skills acquisition and community empowerment.
Her message is simple: leadership should not only be about occupying an office; it should be about touching lives and creating opportunities.
