Theme: Our Power, Our Planet

The Oyo State Ministry of Environment, with support from Wema Bank, the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, and 32 FM Ibadan, commemorated the 2026 World Earth Day with a press briefing held at the Ministry’s headquarters.

The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Eco Green Club, and the Ministry of Women Affairs. Also in attendance were top government officials such as the Acting Commissioner for Environment, Commissioner for Health, Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Director of Environment, and Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics.

In his opening remarks, the President of Eco Green Club, Elijah Adejumo, described the occasion as a global call to action. He urged individuals and communities to take responsibility for protecting the environment by adopting sustainable practices. The Chief Host, Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Adewale Adeniran, emphasized that the theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” underscores the urgent need to protect the Earth as humanity’s only home. He highlighted pressing environmental challenges such as pollution, deforestation, ozone layer depletion, climate change, and land degradation, noting their growing impact on human survival, food security, and economic stability. He further explained that irregular rainfall patterns, extreme weather conditions, and declining soil health are direct consequences of environmental neglect. He called on citizens, government agencies, youth groups, and non-governmental organizations to work collectively in addressing these challenges. He also stressed the importance of regulated tree felling, sustainable land use, and reducing harmful agricultural practices. The Commissioner concluded by appealing to residents of Oyo State to actively participate in efforts to restore and protect the environment, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Media organizations present at the briefing included BCOS, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), The Nation Newspaper, Punch Newspaper, Splash FM, and 32 FM.
Following the press briefing, a symbolic tree-planting exercise was carried out within the Ministry’s premises to mark the celebration. This initiative flagged off the planting of one hundred (100) trees across the local government area, aimed at promoting environmental restoration, improving air quality, and combating climate change. The exercise reinforced the importance of practical action, encouraging citizens to plant more and waste less as part of daily efforts toward a healthier environment.

Conclusion
The 2026 World Earth Day celebration in Oyo State served as a strong reminder that environmental sustainability is a shared responsibility. Stakeholders emphasized the need for increased public awareness, strengthened policies, and collective action to safeguard the planet for future generations.

*NOA Oyo Hosts Dynasty FM on Courtesy Visit, Explores Strategic Media Partnership for Civic Engagement*

The Oyo State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has received a delegation from Dynasty FM on a courtesy visit to its State Headquarters, as part of efforts to foster strategic collaboration in public enlightenment and civic engagement.

The delegation, comprising key members of the station’s management team, including the General Manager and Head of Programmes, noted that the visit was driven by a desire to partner with NOA in promoting national values, civic responsibility, and the effective dissemination of government policies at the grassroots level.

They emphasized the critical role of radio as a powerful tool for shaping public perception and bridging the communication gap between government and citizens. According to the team, Dynasty FM remains committed to going beyond entertainment by serving as an information-driven platform that simplifies government policies for better public understanding, particularly among grassroots audiences.

Welcoming the delegation, the Oyo State Director of NOA, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande, alongside her management team, expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as a strategic step toward strengthening collaboration between the Agency and the media. She reiterated NOA’s mandate as the government’s leading institution for public enlightenment, civic education, and feedback management, noting its central role in communicating government policies and mobilizing citizens for national development.

Mrs. Akande further highlighted the Agency’s extensive grassroots structure, with officers present across all Local Government Areas, ensuring effective dissemination of information and engagement with diverse segments of society, including market groups, youth organizations, traditional institutions, and religious bodies.

She stressed that NOA values its partnership with media organizations, given their wide reach and influence, and assured the delegation of the Agency’s readiness to collaborate with Dynasty FM in advancing civic education, youth engagement, and public awareness campaigns.

Other members of the management team underscored the importance of responsible broadcasting, accuracy in information dissemination, and sustained engagement with relevant government agencies to ensure that the public receives credible and well-interpreted information.

Discussions also focused on strengthening media participation in national orientation efforts, including proper sensitization on civic responsibilities and national symbols, such as the correct rendition of the National Anthem and National Pledge at official functions.

The visit concluded with both NOA and Dynasty FM expressing a shared commitment to building a mutually beneficial partnership aimed at enhancing public understanding, promoting national values, and fostering informed citizen participation in governance.

*NOA Oyo State Directorate Participates in First Quarter Malaria Technical Working Group Meeting*

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State Directorate, participated in the First Quarter Malaria Technical Working Group (MTWG) meeting held on April 10, 2026, at the Emergency Operations Centre Conference Room, Oyo State Government Secretariat, Ibadan.

The Oyo State Director of NOA, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande, was represented at the meeting by the Deputy Director, Health and Social Care, Mr. Babatunde Ogundipe. The meeting was convened to strengthen coordination and provide strategic leadership for the effective implementation of malaria control interventions across the state. Key agenda items included the review of ongoing malaria control strategies, presentation of Malaria Indicator Survey (MIS) reports, identification of implementation challenges, and planning of activities for the next quarter.

At the end of deliberations, stakeholders developed a robust action plan for the upcoming quarter, outlining clear objectives, timelines, and responsibilities aimed at enhancing collective efforts to combat malaria in the state. In his remarks, Mr. Babatunde Ogundipe assured stakeholders of NOA’s continued commitment to public enlightenment and health education. He also urged local government health educators to collaborate closely with NOA Community Orientation and Mobilisation Officers in their respective areas to ensure effective and impactful programme implementation.

NOA OYO DRIVES COMMUNITY-CENTERED ACCOUNTABILITY, PARTNERS UNICEF, OYSPHCB ON FEEDBACK MECHANISM DESIGN

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State Directorate, has reinforced its commitment to promoting inclusive governance and community-driven development through its participation in a strategic two-day Co-Creation and Systems Design Meeting on the operationalization of a Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM) across selected Local Government Areas in Oyo and Ogun States.

The high-level engagement, convened by the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board (OYSPHCB) in collaboration with UNICEF was held at Plaza De Haruna, Oyo on the 31st March- 3rd April, 2026.

Participants at the meeting included representatives of NOA Directorates from Oyo and Ogun States, UNICEF officials from Lagos and Oyo states as well as health facilitators and Community development actors committed to strengthening accountability systems and improving service delivery at the grassroots.

The Oyo State Director of NOA, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmat Akande, was ably represented by Miss A.O. Adewale, Deputy Director, Planning Research and Strategy Department.

Speaking on behalf of the State Director, Mrs. Adewale commended the organizers initiating a forward-thinking and impactful programme. She highlighted the centrality of community sensitization in driving sustainable development, noting that the initiative strongly aligns with NOA’s statutory mandate of informing, educating, and mobilizing citizens and providing feedback from same.

She further emphasized that institutionalizing a Community Feedback Mechanism is pivotal to fostering transparency, strengthening trust between service providers and communities, and ensuring that policies and programmes are reflective of the real needs and live experiences of the people.

The meeting featured a blend of technical sessions and participatory engagements led by experts and facilitators, who guided discussions on the conceptual framework of CFM, its relevance in enhancing accountability, and the risks associated with excluding community voices in programme implementation.

Through a series of intensive group work sessions, participants mapped existing feedback structures within LGAs, identified systemic gaps and operational challenges, and collaboratively proposed context-specific solutions. These deliberations were further enriched through plenary sessions, which enabled validation of ideas and strengthened collective ownership of the process.

Key outcomes of the meeting included the co-design of an operational blueprint for the implementation of the Community Feedback Mechanism at the LGA level, clear articulation of roles and responsibilities among stakeholders and the development of strategic approaches for community sensitization and engagement.

The engagement also culminated in the alignment of draft CFM components anchored on the core principles of accountability, inclusiveness, responsiveness, and transparency in primary healthcare service delivery.

The National Orientation Agency reaffirmed its readiness to deploy its extensive grassroots communication structures to support the effective rollout of the initiative. The Agency noted that the successful implementation of the Community Feedback Mechanism will not only deepen collaboration among stakeholders but also enhance public trust and ultimately contribute to improved health outcomes for communities across Oyo and Ogun States.

The Agency emphasizes that every Nigerian deserves access to affordable and quality healthcare. Citizens are encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles by eating balanced diets, staying physically active, and avoiding harmful substances. Maintaining proper hygiene, ensuring sanitation, and using safe water remain critical in preventing diseases. NOA also calls on Nigerians to support immunization programmes and maternal healthcare services, while paying attention to their mental and emotional well-being.

Nigeria continues to face health challenges, including infectious diseases, maternal and child health concerns, and the rising burden of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. NOA OYO REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO BUILDING RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP THROUGH YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AND VALUE ORIENTATION

National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State Directorate, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting civic responsibility, transparency, and youth engagement with the inauguration of the Selection Committee for the 3rd Assembly of the Oyo State Youth Parliament.

The event, held at the Ministry of Finance Conference Room, represents a significant milestone in the Oyo State Government’s ongoing efforts to deepen youth participation in governance. It follows the dissolution of the 2nd Assembly and marks the formal commencement of the selection process for a new set of youth parliamentarians. In his welcome address, Mr. Sangogade Olusumbo Idowu underscored the importance of the exercise, noting that the committee’s assignment will lay the foundation for a credible, representative, and non-partisan Youth Parliament. He emphasized that integrity, fairness, and strict adherence to established guidelines would guide the entire process.

Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, Chairman of the Agency for Youth Development, commended the State Government for its consistent support for youth-focused initiatives. He described the Governor as a strong advocate of youth empowerment and highlighted the committee’s critical role in entrenching transparency and accountability within youth governance structures.

Candidates must be indigenes of Oyo State, aged between 15 and 29 years, possess at least a Senior Secondary School Certificate, demonstrate commitment to youth development, and maintain a clean record, particularly with respect to drug use and criminal activity.

Key resolutions from the meeting include the formal dissolution of the 2nd Assembly on April 7, 2026, while the call for applications will run from April 14 to April 28, 2026. *NOA OYO STATE DIRECTORATE SENSITIZES PARTICIPANTS AT THE 6TH ANNUAL RAMADAN LECTURE OF THE NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE*

The Oyo State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has emphasized the importance of moral uprightness, vigilance, and responsible citizenship during the 6th Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by the Oyo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The lecture, themed “Exploring How Imaan, Righteousness and Piety Drive a Muslim’s Actions,” was held at the Correctional Service State Headquarters, Secretariat, Ibadan. The event was attended by correctional officers, religious leaders, staff members, and invited guests.

The Oyo State Director of the National Orientation Agency, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande, was represented at the programme by Mr. Adenekan Moshood, who delivered a goodwill message on her behalf. In his address, Mr. Adenekan commended the Nigerian Correctional Service for organizing the annual Ramadan lecture, describing the theme as timely and spiritually enriching. Speaking on the topic, he noted that Imaan (faith), righteousness, and piety are fundamental principles that guide a Muslim’s conduct, shape character, and influence decision-making. He explained that these values promote discipline, integrity, justice, and compassion—qualities that are essential not only in religious life but also in public service and nation-building.

Mr. Adenekan further sensitized participants on the importance of heightened vigilance and community responsibility, particularly during the Ramadan period. He stressed that security is a shared duty and encouraged attendees to remain observant in their surroundings.
Reinforcing the Agency’s security advocacy message, he urged participants to adopt the principle: “If you see something, say something.” He explained that timely reporting of suspicious activities to appropriate authorities is crucial in preventing security threats and maintaining peace.

He also reiterated the Agency’s commitment to continuous public enlightenment on national values, civic responsibilities, and government policies aimed at strengthening unity and social stability.

The lecture was well attended by various MDAs and participants described it as enlightening and impactful, reinforcing the role of faith, righteousness, and piety in personal development and societal progress.

NOA OYO SENSITIZES THE PUBLIC ON BAN OF SACHET ALCOHOLIC DRINKS

The Oyo State Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA), led by the State Director, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmat Akande, on Saturday featured on Ijoba Awaarawa, a public affairs programme on Solutions 93.9 FM, Okeado, Ibadan, anchored by Aderemi Adegboyega, to enlighten members of the public on the Federal Government’s ban on sachet alcoholic drinks.

Mrs. Akande, who appeared on the programme alongside the Assistant Director in charge of Abuse Rights and Narcotics, Mrs. Mufuliat Oladipo, explained that the Federal Government introduced the ban in response to the growing abuse of sachet alcoholic drinks , particularly among youths and children, as well as its adverse effects on public health.

The State Director noted that the easy accessibility and affordability of sachet alcohol have contributed significantly to its widespread misuse, which poses serious health and social risks to the general populace especially the youth. She emphasised that the decision to ban the product is aimed at protecting the wellbeing of citizens and addressing the increasing cases of alcohol abuse in society.

Mrs. Akande further stated that the National Orientation Agency has been at the forefront of public sensitisation and awareness campaigns to ensure that citizens understand the rationale behind the policy and comply with it.

According to her, the Agency is strategically positioned to reach Nigerians at the grassroots through its offices across the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and officers deployed to the 774 Local Government Areas of the country.

She disclosed that the Agency has already commenced advocacy visits, community engagements, and town hall meetings with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders in order to effectively communicate the government’s decision and educate citizens on the dangers associated with high-strength sachet alcohol consumption.

The State Director also commended the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency for prioritising public enlightenment and ensuring that government policies are effectively communicated to Nigerians.

The programme provided an opportunity for the Agency to further enlighten listeners on the dangers of alcohol abuse and the importance of supporting government policies aimed at promoting healthier and more responsible communities.

*Oyo NOA reiterates sensitization on FG's ban on small- packed alcohol to strengthen social stability*.

Eleyele, Ibadan, 4th, March 2026.

The National Orientation Agency has mandated its workforce to embark on a sweeping nationwide sensitization on the Federal Government's laudable stride on the ban on satchets alcohol packaged in Satchets / PEF / small bottles etc in order to reinforce responsible consumption. The campaign is also to galvanise public understanding as well as the stakeholders' cooperation.

Making this known during the occasion of the annual Ramadan lecture of the Police Central Mosque, State Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Oyo State themed " Islamic panacea to the youth restiveness in the 21st century, Alhaji Isiaka kehinde, the head of the media and communication in Oyo state who represented the state director, Mrs Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande, charged the public especially the media to make the campaign take a firm root in order to make good the Federal Government s aims to stem the tide of alcohol related crime thereby improving public health outcomes thus ensuring safer communities as expressly directed by the agency’s DirectorGeneral, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu.

The Deputy Director maintains that it's a civic responsibility and a mark of responsible citizenship to join hands with the government on this lofty joint initiative, which is already backed with legislative resolution. Emphasising that policy drive took effect from January 1st, 2026.
Adding that criminality rates in the country will be reduced if the culprits fail to use alcohol to build their dikes of courage and hold back the flood of fear .

Isiaka also highlighted other moves taken thus far by the agency to tackle youth restfulness to include ' Deployment of NOA 's Chleean and other A1 generated contents and animated contents, expanding the agency departments and units like creation of Abuse rights and Narcotics, community awareness and compliance, Community outreach ,Youth engagement and inclusion etc as well as sustained a nationwide youth targeted campaigns .

Earlier, the Guest Lecturer, Professor Muritala K. Kareem of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, in his lecture titled “Islamic Panacea to Youth Restiveness in the 21st Century,” called on parents and guardians to complement academic knowledge with the teaching of four essential virtues.
According to him, the first is to instill in children the belief in and fear of God. Secondly, they should be taught to exhibit good deeds in all their endeavours. Thirdly, they must be encouraged to speak the truth at all times. The fourth virtue is patience, which they should demonstrate in all their dealings.
He concluded by admonishing all stakeholders to deliberately develop and protect the youth by instilling in them the fear of God. Emphasizing the importance of spirituality and accountability, he noted that “a day with God is like a thousand days on earth.”

*NOA OYO CALLS FOR MULTI-PRONGED APPROACH TO STEMMING INSECURITY*

Ibadan – 26th February 2026

The Oyo State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on citizens to practice the values they advocate as examples are better than preepts. Harping also on national security as everyone’s responsibility.

This charge was delivered during the Ramadan lecture organized by the Muslim community of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, Agodi Gate, Ibadan. The Oyo State Director, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande was represented at the event by the Deputy Director, Media and Communication, Mr. Isiaka Kehinde
In his address, Mr. Isiaka urged citizens to “be wary of any suspicious movements in their communities and raise alarm immediately they notice any untoward developments. He charged the listeners to be the catalyst of the change they preach” by aligning their actions with their words, particularly in the fight against insecurity.

MantraHe stressed that intelligence gathering, non kinetic approach, strong community relations, intergovernmental unison, reflective approaches, etc. remain some of the key strategies in curbing insecurity, noting that insecurity has become a hydra headed demon that we should all be ready to conquer.
He reiterated the popular civic monica “When you see something, say something,” encouraging citizens to promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities, as well as the NOA. He also recalled the President’s remarks during the swearing-in of the new Inspector General of Police, where he emphasized inter-agency collaboration as a vital tool in addressing security challenges. Mr. Isiaka further advised citizens to be proactive and forward-thinking, stating that Nigerians must stay a step ahead of criminal elements through vigilance, intelligence gathering, and courage. “Without courage, there is no victory,” he admonished.

Earlier, whilst delivering the keynote lecture, Prof. Wole Abass, Executive Secretary of the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), spoke extensively on the theme of peace and moral responsibility. He reminded the audience that Islam, in its literal meaning, signifies peace and called on Muslims to reflect this principle in their daily conduct.
Prof. Abass noted that injustice breeds corruption, and corruption, in turn, fuels poverty, which are combined to generate a spate of insecurity. He therefore urged leaders at all levels to rebuild public trust through transparency, accountability, and fairness in the discharge of their duties. He also encouraged discipline, vigilance, and exemplary conduct, particularly as role models for the younger generation. According to him, promoting unity and safeguarding lives and properties remain collective responsibilities that require the commitment of all citizens.

*NOA Oyo calls for citizens respect for national anthem and other national symbols, clarifies proper rendition at events*

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State Directorate, has intensifies efforts to promote patriotism and respect for Nigeria’s national symbols, following an interview granted to the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) at the Agency’s State Headquarters in Ibadan.

Speaking during the interview, the State Director, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmat Akande, addressed growing concerns over the declining culture of standing during the recitation of the National Anthem at public gatherings and official functions.
Mrs. Akande described national symbols as powerful representations of Nigeria’s history, values, and collective aspirations, stressing that standing during the National Anthem is a mark of honour, unity, and national identity.

She disclosed that the Agency, through its National Identity Project and other sensitization programmes, has been engaging communities, schools, traditional institutions, youth groups, and key stakeholders across the state to reinforce civic responsibility and patriotism.
According to her, value reorientation is a continuous process that must involve homes, schools, community leaders, and the media. She emphasized that while schools play a critical role in shaping character, moral instructions must first begin at home. The Director also clarified the approved format for the rendition of the National Anthem at official events. She explained that the first stanza should be rendered at the beginning of programmes, the third stanza may serve as a national prayer, and the National Pledge should be taken at the end of official events. The three stanzas are reserved for major national ceremonies.

Mrs. Akande urged Nigerians to show maximum respect whenever the National Anthem or Pledge is recited by standing at attention and suspending all activities.
“The simple act of standing during the National Anthem symbolizes our unity as one nation and our commitment to Nigeria’s progress,” she stated.

The National Orientation Agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustained public sensitization aimed at strengthening national values, promoting civic consciousness, and fostering unity across Oyo State and the nation at large.
