PRESS STATEMENT
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL PUBLICITY SECRETARY
NIGERIA DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS

WITHHOLDING OF RECOGNITION OF DIASPORA CHAPTERS OF THE PARTY

The National Leadership of the NDC has reviewed its relationship with foreign chapters of the party operating in the diaspora and wishes to make the following clarifications:

1. The NDC wishes to withhold recognition of foreign chapters of the party in the diaspora.

2. We are deeply appreciative of the immense support of various foreign chapters in the diaspora. We are grateful for their unwavering loyalty, guidance, and contributions to the party.

3. However, as a political party committed to the virtues of accountability, transparency, and due process, we are aware of a subsisting court judgment restricting political parties from organizing foreign-based chapters.

4. In the matter between *Prof. Ali Alao v. All Progressives Congress (APC) & Anor, Suit No: CV/187/2025*, it was decided by Justice Peter Kekemeke at the FCT High Court in Maitama that, _"no political party registered in Nigeria has the legal authority to establish, operate or supervise chapters outside the country's territorial boundaries."_ The court further held that _"diaspora chapters of Nigerian political parties were illegal, unconstitutional, and unknown to the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."_

5. Therefore, the NDC, in deference to the said judgment, is halting recognition of foreign chapters of the party and all earlier recognitions are hereby withdrawn.

6. In jurisdictions where more than one group exists, a harmonization process has been initiated by the party to bring them under one umbrella.

7. The party is currently studying the judgment and has referred same to its Legal Department for further advice and guidance.

8. The party is aware of the tremendous interest that Nigerians in the diaspora have in our candidates, especially our presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi and we thank them and encourage them to sustain such interest with more vigour.

9. We encourage our supporters in the diaspora to continue to meet and interact, and we shall remain in touch with them through appropriate and legal channels.

10. Collectively, we must work hard to build a Nigeria of our dreams. We must rescue Nigeria from its present state of drift and hopelessness foisted on it by the rudderless APC.

11. A New Nigeria is POssible!

Signed:

Osa Director Esq
National Publicity Secretary, NDC

AKOKO EDO DESERVES BETTER — LET US RISE AND MAKE A CHANGE

I weep for Nigeria when I see the hardship our people are facing every day. The rising cost of living, insecurity, power challenges, bad roads, unemployment, poor healthcare, and the struggles within our educational system are realities that can no longer be ignored under APC lead administration.

Even here in Edo State, many of us are asking: Are things really getting better? Promises have been made, but our people still face insecurity, poor infrastructure, bad roads and abandoned or unfinished projects being presented as achievements under APC administration.

And when I look at Akoko Edo, my heart is heavy. It feels as though our people have been forgotten and our voices are not being heard strongly enough. Our communities deserve representation that understands their pain, listens to their concerns and fights for their interests.

That is why the time has come for a new generation of leadership.

We need someone young, vibrant, energetic, accessible and committed—someone who sees the struggles of our people not from a distance, but as a call to action.

That is why I believe in Hon. Comr. Jacob Tope.

He believes that Akoko Edo can do better. He believes our people deserve effective representation, development and a stronger voice at the Edo State House of Assembly.

This is not just about one person. It is about the future of Akoko Edo.

Let us rise. Let us unite. Let us support a representative who will put the interests of our people first.

Support Hon. Comr. Jacob Tope for Edo State House of Assembly.

Together, let us rewrite Akoko Edo’s name on the map.
Together, let us demand better representation.
Together, we can build a better Akoko Edo.

AKOKO EDO FIRST!
JACOB TOPE FOR BETTER REPRESENTATION!

HAPPY 66TH INDEPENDENCE DAY, AKOKO-EDO CONSTITUENCY 1! 🇳🇬

Happy Independence Day to the good people of Akoko-Edo Constituency 1 and Nigerians at home and abroad.

As we celebrate 66 years of Nigeria’s independence, let us not only celebrate our journey, but also take a moment to reflect on how far we have come as a nation and where we desire to be.

Let us look into our communities and ask ourselves some important questions: Are we where we should be in terms of quality of life, infrastructure, social justice, effective policies, economic opportunities, security and agriculture?

Nigeria is a nation richly blessed by God, with tremendous human resources, fertile land, favourable climate and abundant natural resources. We have what it takes to build a prosperous and truly developed nation.

Our task, therefore, is to build the right systems, strengthen responsible leadership, and embrace the values, discipline and collective responsibility required to move our communities and nation forward.

As we mark this Independence Day, let us also look inward. Every positive transformation begins with a change of heart, a change of attitude and a commitment to doing what is right.

Together, we can reposition Akoko-Edo Constituency 1 and contribute our part towards building a stronger, more prosperous and united Nigeria.

A greater and better Nigeria is possible.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! 🇳🇬
