RENEWED HOPE IN ACTION: A NEW CHAPTER IN IKORODU’S EMPOWERMENT STORY

Ikorodu witnessed a defining moment in its development journey as Jimi Benson’s Renewed Hope Mega Empowerment brought unprecedented empowerment opportunities to our Federal Constituency, marking a significant milestone in our collective pursuit of inclusive growth and grassroots prosperity.

Inspired by the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, this Federal Government initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to expanding economic opportunities, strengthening livelihoods and ensuring that the dividends of governance reach the people.

I extend my profound appreciation to Mr. President for his visionary leadership and commitment to the welfare and economic advancement of Nigerians, which made this intervention possible. I am equally grateful to the Deputy Governor of Lagos State and APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and his running mate, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, for honouring the occasion with their presence; the Lagos APC State Chairman, Pastor Victor Ojelabi; the Director-General of the KOH Campaign Organisation, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; Traditional Rulers and all party leaders and stakeholders across Ikorodu Division and Lagos State for their solidarity and support.

To the beneficiaries, I thank you for your trust in the Renewed Hope Agenda and your continued faith in the promise of purposeful leadership. Your aspirations remain central to our commitment to building a constituency where opportunities are accessible, livelihoods are strengthened, and every community has a stake in our shared progress.

Yesterday’s gathering was more than an empowerment programme; it reaffirmed what becomes possible when visionary leadership, purposeful representation, and the aspirations of the people converge.

Together, we will continue to turn Renewed Hope into tangible opportunities and lasting impact for our people.

RENEWED HOPE IN ACTION: COMPASSION, SERVICE AND PRAYER

Yesterday’s engagements reflected two enduring pillars of leadership: the responsibility to improve the lives of our people and the faith that guides our collective aspirations.

At the 10th anniversary of the iCare Food Bank’s Apo Aanu initiative, I joined political leaders and community stakeholders to celebrate a decade of sustained humanitarian service, as over 1,000 beneficiaries received food bags and transport support. This intervention reflects the spirit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and our shared commitment to ensuring that governance translates into meaningful relief and improved welfare for the people.

I also joined a special prayer gathering organised by a coalition of religious organisations in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, where prayers were offered for the electoral success of APC candidates across Ikorodu Division, our Lagos State gubernatorial candidate and President Tinubu in the forthcoming general elections.

As we work to ease the burdens of today, we must also remain united in faith, purpose and vision for tomorrow. Renewed Hope must be felt in the lives of our people, strengthened by collective action and sustained by our prayers for a more prosperous Nigeria.

A NEW CHAPTER FOR PADEL IN NIGERIA

I am honoured to be inaugurated as President of the Nigeria Padel Federation, a responsibility I embrace with great enthusiasm and an unwavering commitment to the growth and development of sports in our country.

Nigeria is a nation of exceptionally athletic, energetic and adventurous people, with an abundance of sporting talent. I firmly believe that padel has enormous potential to capture the imagination of Nigerians, nurture new talent, create opportunities for our youth, and strengthen Nigeria’s presence on the global sporting stage.

Beyond recreation, padel offers opportunities for youth engagement, sports entrepreneurship, job creation and international recognition. With deliberate investment in infrastructure, grassroots development, coaching and competitions, we can build a vibrant padel ecosystem that reaches every corner of our country.

Our ambition must go beyond participation. We must position Nigeria to compete for medals at future continental and global competitions, including the All-African Games and, as the sport’s Olympic pathway develops, the Olympic Games. This will require strategic planning, talent identification, sustained investment and strong partnerships.

As President, I look forward to working with stakeholders, sponsors, sports administrators and our passionate sporting community to make padel accessible, competitive and commercially sustainable.

The journey begins now. Together, we can put Nigeria firmly on the world padel map!

CELEBRATING AN ELDER STATESMAN OF WISDOM, CONVICTION & DISTINCTION

Today, I celebrate Baba Aladura, Asiwaju Reuben Olorunfunmi Basorun, a revered elder statesman, respected party stalwart, and distinguished member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, whose life continues to exemplify the enduring value of conviction, experience, and principled service.

Baba, yours is a rare journey in which professional accomplishment, political stewardship, community devotion, and spiritual depth converge. In a world often preoccupied with recognition, you remind us that the truest measure of a life is the wisdom it imparts, the values it upholds, and the lives it enriches. Your place among our respected elders is a testament to years of commitment to public good and the preservation of ideals that transcend generations.

FROM DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES TO CULTURAL HERITAGE: A SATURDAY IN IKORODU

Yesterday was a celebration of progress and tradition. I began the day with the commissioning of the newly constructed 3.3km Olu Odo - Igbo Agbowa Road and five newly constructed roads in Solebo Estate, projects facilitated through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. These roads represent the tangible impact of infrastructure investment on connectivity, mobility and the everyday lives of our people.

I later joined the good people of Imota Kingdom for the grand finale of the 40th Imota Atayo Day anniversary - a proud celebration of our heritage, unity and enduring cultural identity. I was deeply honoured to receive an award in recognition of my contributions.

From roads that open up communities to traditions that unite generations, our mission remains clear: to build a greater Ikorodu while preserving the heritage that makes us who we are.

(Chief) Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), on the occasion of your birthday. From your years of distinguished representation of Ikorodu in the House of Representatives to your service on the national stage, you have consistently demonstrated that public office is ultimately about giving voice, dignity, and direction to the people.

STRENGTHENING NIGERIA’S DEFENCE THROUGH SPACE TECHNOLOGY

Today, 9 October 2026, I was honoured to join the Defence Space Administration (DSA) in celebrating its inaugural DSA Day and Seminar, themed “Space Power and National Security.”

As Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, I recognise that space technology is no longer a luxury but a strategic necessity for Nigeria’s national security and defence architecture. This also aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.

From satellite-enabled intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance to secure communications, navigation, border monitoring and real-time operational coordination, space capabilities are critical to strengthening our Armed Forces, combating emerging security threats and protecting our territorial integrity. Investing in indigenous space capabilities, research, innovation and strategic partnerships is therefore vital to building a smarter, more agile and technology-driven military.

Through effective legislation, adequate appropriation and robust oversight, the National Assembly remains committed to supporting the DSA in expanding its operational capacity and delivering on its national security mandate.

Congratulations to the leadership, personnel and entire DSA family on this milestone. A stronger DSA. A smarter military. A more secure Nigeria.

On World Teachers’ Day, I celebrate the dedicated men and women whose classrooms have become laboratories for dreams, character and possibility. For decades, the global teaching profession has evolved, reminding us that protecting teachers, elevating their status and investing in their well-being are investments in the future of every society.

Every great profession, institution and nation begins with a teacher who chooses to impart knowledge, inspire confidence and awaken potential. As we pursue a stronger Nigeria, we must continue to support our educators with the respect, resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

FROM IKORODU TO THE WORLD: CELEBRATING TALENT, INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION

Yesterday, I was delighted to facilitate the homecoming of one of Ikorodu Federal Constituency’s brightest global treasures, Kanyinsola Ajayi, Nigeria’s record-breaking sprint sensation.

From his interview on 106.1 IKD FM to our visit to the Palace of the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, the ongoing Igbogbo Stadium, the youth meet-and-greet at Ita-Elewa Mini Stadium, and the Ikorodu Division Hall of Fame, the day celebrated excellence, roots, and possibilities.

For me, bringing Kanyinsola home was about more than celebrating an accomplished athlete. It was about reconnecting a global star with the community that shaped him, inspiring the young talents watching his journey, and sending a clear message that Ikorodu is a reservoir of talent, skills and possibilities. This aligns with the Renewed Hope vision of investing in our people and harnessing the potential of our young population for national development. Sports, like education and enterprise, can become a pathway to dignity, opportunity and global visibility.

I thank Kanyinsola for coming home and inspiring our young people, and our traditional rulers, community leaders, media, young athletes and everyone who made the homecoming memorable. May his journey continue to remind every young person in Ikorodu that where you come from can be the foundation from which you conquer the world.

Today, on behalf of my family and the good people of Ikorodu Federal Constituency, I warmly celebrate the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Tajudeen Abbas, PhD, GCON, on the occasion of his birthday. At a time when the strength of institutions matters greatly to the future of our democracy, your stewardship of the Green Chamber has been marked by composure, institutional responsibility, and a firm commitment to the business of nation-building.

Mr. Speaker, I commend the depth, humility, and sense of duty with which you continue to guide the House, building consensus where necessary and ensuring that the voice of the people remains central to legislative engagement. Your office carries enormous responsibility, and your conduct continues to underscore the importance of stability, collaboration, and purposeful representation in advancing Nigeria's interests.
