GUBER ELECTIONS IN OGUN STATE ARE WON BY COLD CALCULATIONS, STRATEGIC ALLIANCES AND COALITION OF FORCES
By DG Dr Kunle Salako
In Ogun State as in many other climes, not one factor determines election results either at the primary or general election. My retrospective analysis of the outcomes of the 9 gubernatorial elections so far held in Ogun State since 1979 has identified 8 key factors that determined how the election eventually turned out. Though the relative influence of these factors on the eventual outcome varies from one election to the other, they have been found as consistently featuring in the analysis and each candidate that eventually won the election have also been found to have had at least 5 of these factors in his favour. These factors are listed below in no particular order:
1. Strength of the political party as determines by its grassroots pe*******on and leadership cohesion
2. Actual and perceived financial strength of the gubernatorial candidate.
3. The power brokers/godfathers behind the gubernatorial candidate
4. Absence of cohesion in the main opposition or alternate party.
5. High votes by the candidate in his senatorial district
6. Popularity/street credibility of the candidate
7. The political trend in Yorubaland and in Nigeria or bandwagon effect
8. Other factors like public sympathy, past records, past attributes like eloquence, personality etc
Any objective cm scientific discussion of how Ogun West should play politically going forward need to be premised on such analysis and conscious plan to increase the score of gubernatorial contestants in Ogun State in these areas.
Whereas, one may argue theoretically that having 1 candidate, from a senatorial district put the district at an advantage to win a statewide election, practically speaking , that has not been the experience in Ogun State since 1979. In all the 3 instances of 2011, 2015 and 2019 that gubernatorial candidates from Ogun West were frontrunners, it will amount to gross oversimplification and nativity to put our loss at the doorstep of multiple candidates only.
Over the years, it has been clearly demonstrated that sentiments and political bravado will not win a statewide election in Ogun State. Rather it is cold calculation, strategic alliance and coalition of forces within and without that delivers victory.
The 2011 loss is not because AIO and GNI ran against each other, it was more because the "political principalities" could not agree within themselves and decided to fight to finish. In 2015, when GNI lost to Amosun, the factor of the loss was not Senator Odunsi that came into the race who scored less than 5% of total votes cast but because the person seen as the chief promoter of GNI could just not be allowed by the "afobajes" of Ogun State to install a Governor for the State.
In 2019, while the combined votes of AAA and GNI surpasses that of DA by about 90,000, can we really say that all those 90,000 votes would have gone for AAA or GNI if either had withdrawn for the other? It's an hypothetical question that nobody can really give a correct answer to but from what I know about politics and the roles played by personal, caucus cm local interests, I doubt if either would have been able to secure more than 50% of the 90,000.
In 2007, Senator Ibikunle Amosun was the only gubernatorial candidate from Ogun Central that was worth any reckoning, he went on to loose to the incumbent Otunba Gbenga Daniel with almost 300,000 votes. This is despite the fact that Dipo Dina of the AD from the same Senatorial District with Gbenga Daniel garnered close to 70,000 votes.
Going forward, Ogun West need to become more politically discerning and less emotional. We need to be more calculative and tactical. Like our elders will say, gbogbo a*o ko laasa loorun. Let the 2023 apostles do their own while the 2027 also does theirs but let nobody think either is a spoiler. In my assessment, both sides are merely using 2023 as a springboard for 2027.

IPOKIA/YEWA SOUTH PEOPLE CRIED OUT LOUDER. NO ROOM FOR ANY POLITICAL OFFICE HOLDER WITHOUT GOOD ACHIEVEMENT RECORDS.
By Bankole Isaiah
Odepata polling unit,
tube ward
It was a good decision from the people of our various zones in Ipokia/yewa south Federal constituency, to come up with a brilliant decisions about not given their support to those who has failed us in the past while in office that appear back to seek for support to re-run for the same office.
More so, appreciation to all political leaders across Ipokia yewa south Federal constituency for standing up for what they believed by showing support for constituency political balancing without hidden their faces from speaking out the fact about the matter. Many of the leaders at the apex level are now symbol of good politic across Ipokia/ yewa south by calling a spade a space and ready to go against money bag politic before chosen the best candidate among others.
The race of primary 🏃 is running closer and more faster, as our leaders and excos are warming up to let us have a competent candidate in various position across the constituencies. The 90mins match will over soon to approach the end of semi final before buckling up for the final stage between the party and oppositions.
It is the right time for us all to be able to identify the real Gold from just ordinary Gold material looked like a Gold. If it is not panadol, it can never be a panadol. No amount of urgent sub standard projects flying around can change the mindset of our people. Our apex leaders and Excos are too wise to be fooled with die minute project to seek for their support. WHY NOW remain the slogans of many leaders even without confronting anyone.
Good news to you all, God has given us a man who is 100% ready to lead us to our promise land full of Honey and Milk, blessed with wealth of experience to transform Ipokia/yewa south Federal Constituency in the areas of INFRASTRUCTURE, EMPOWERMENT, HEALTH CARE AND EDUCATION.
The only answer to our long term underdevelopment crisis in Ipokia/yewa south is to have a man filled with the love of the masses and ready to serve. Hon. Isiaka Wale Aderounmu (IWA) is up to the task.
At the mention of the name of IWA to the people of Ipokia/yewa South Federal Constituency, It gives joy and hope to the masses without having anything to think about the incumbent anymore than to show him the way out with cote of thanks for serving the constituency for good 8yrs with the best he can offer so far, as we all know that no one can give more than his own capacity. (You can't offer what you don't have)
HON. ISIAKA WALE ADEROUNMU IS THE ANSWER.
SUPPORT IWA AS IPOKIA/ YEWA SOUTH MHR 2023
GOOD GOVERNANCE IS OUR RIGHT, NO ONE CAN DASH US OUR RIGHT.
I STAND WITH IWA
I GO WITH IWA

Easter: Ogun Commissioner, Isiaka Aderohunmu, Urges Christians To Emulate Christ’s Teachings
By Kayode Olu Omitoogun
The Ogun State Commissioner II for State Universal Basic Education, Hon. Isiaka 'Wale Aderohunmu has urged Christians in the state to emulate the teachings of Jesus Christ with a “view to reunite and live harmoniously together”,
IWA also enjoined the residents of the state to excuse religious bigotry, extremism and political violence in any form.
He gave the advice in his Easter message made available to his Media Team on Monday.
The commissioner stated, “I celebrate with our Christian brethren who have dedicated their time to the holy preaching and fast for 40 days and 40 nights.
“The Easter sea*on teaches us unity, love, trust but more importantly, steadfastness and sacrifice to live in peace and harmony with one another.
“Now, more than ever, we need to imbibe and emulate the teachings of Christ with a view to reunite and live harmoniously together.
“May the multiple blessings of this spiritual sea*on radiate in our lives now and always. May the sea*on teach us the true love of God, unity, trust and guide our thoughts and deeds as we wade through an increasingly volatile world. May Almighty God heal the wounds created by conflicts across the globe.
“Importantly, I urge our people to excuse religious bigotry, extremism and political violence in any form. The peace and unity of the country are fragile; we cannot afford any act of violence that may snowball into unrest in Nigeria.
“Easter refreshes our hope and gives a rebirth of joy. May every good thing that is dead in our lives be resurrected.
“May the State continue to enjoy peace, tranquility and progress,” Aderohunmu said.
