Governor Agbu Kefas Charts New Course for Taraba’s Solid Minerals Sector

K-MOVE

On Saturday, September 12, 2026, His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, made history by successfully convening the maiden Taraba State Solid Minerals Investment Roundtable in Jalingo.

The roundtable brought together investors from across the world who have expressed interest in investing in Taraba State. The event also had the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, in attendance.

In his remarks, Governor Kefas said his administration would ensure that mining activities benefit host communities, create employment opportunities for young people, and generate sustainable revenue for the state.

To achieve this, the Governor directed relevant ministries, departments, and agencies to establish a Taraba Solid Minerals Investment Facilitation Desk to serve as a one-stop platform for coordinating investors, government agencies, and host communities.

According to him, the desk will coordinate geological information, land access, business support services, security, infrastructure, and community engagement to facilitate seamless investment processes.

Governor Kefas emphasized that the roundtable must lead to tangible investments and measurable outcomes rather than end as another routine gathering.

He stated that Taraba State is transitioning from unregulated and informal mining activities to a system of properly licensed, responsible, and sustainable mining, with a strong focus on security, environmental protection, local processing, and value addition.

The Governor further directed that serious investors identified during the roundtable be linked to specific investment opportunities and provided with clear implementation plans in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.

He added that the state expects a practical action plan outlining identified investors, mineral opportunities, host communities, required approvals, and timelines for site acquisition and project commissioning.

Governor Kefas stressed that the success of the roundtable would ultimately be measured by the investments attracted, projects executed, jobs created, and industries established as a result of the initiative.

Taraba Government Launches Climate Change Policy and Action Plan

K-MOVE

Taraba State Government has made history with the launch of its Climate Change Policy and Action Plan, aimed at strengthening climate governance, protecting the environment, and building resilience against the growing impacts of climate change in the state.

The launch ceremony, held at the C2C Event Centre in Jalingo, brought together government officials, environmental experts, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Governor Agbu Kefas said that while climate change may sound technical when discussed at international conferences, its effects are already being felt in the daily lives of people across the state.

The governor noted that changing rainfall patterns are affecting farmers and their livelihoods, explaining that when rains come too early or too late, farmers can experience crop failures and the destruction of farmlands.

According to him, the newly launched policy is not about theories but about addressing the realities faced by the people.

Governor Kefas explained that the policy would ensure environmental considerations become an integral part of government planning and decision-making.

He stressed that tackling climate change should not be seen as the sole responsibility of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, noting that ministries such as Agriculture, Water Resources, and Energy also have important roles to play in implementing the policy.

The governor further stated that the policy would contribute to protecting the state’s forests and wildlife, describing them as valuable economic assets that must be preserved for future generations.

Earlier, in her opening remarks, the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Aishat Barde, said the Climate Change Policy and Action Plan provides a clear roadmap for strengthening climate governance, protecting ecosystems, building resilience, and unlocking opportunities that will support sustainable development in Taraba State.

She said the policy was developed through extensive consultations, technical assessments, and collaboration involving government ministries, experts, and civil society organisations.

The commissioner expressed optimism that the implementation of the policy would provide a coordinated approach to addressing climate-related challenges while promoting sustainable development across the state.
