The National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Plateau State Chapter, has commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for what it described as remarkable achievements in road infrastructure, security, and governance over the past three years.

The State Chairman of the Union, Yakubu Dalyop, gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House Jos.

Speaking during the visit, Yakubu Dalyop said the Union, which operates through 86 branches across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, has witnessed firsthand the positive impact of ongoing road rehabilitation projects.

He noted that improved road networks have enhanced transportation and economic activities across Plateau State, assuring the Governor of the Union’s continued support for his administration.

The NURTW Chairman also applauded the government’s ban on illegal motor parks, describing the measure as a significant step towards curbing criminal activities and improving public safety.

He further appealed to the state government to construct standard motor parks across the state to strengthen security, improve transport operations, and boost internally generated revenue.

Responding, Governor Caleb Mutfwang expressed appreciation for the visit, describing the NURTW as a critical stakeholder in the transportation sector and a valuable partner in promoting security.

The Governor noted that beyond facilitating the movement of people, goods, and services, members of the Union have assisted security agencies in combating crimes, including the trafficking of illicit drugs and small arms.

Governor Mutfwang also commended the Plateau State chapter of the NURTW for maintaining a low rate of road accidents in recent years and assured the Union of the government’s support to enable it contribute more effectively to national security and development.

As a mark of appreciation, Governor Mutfwang announced the appointment of the NURTW State Chairman, Yakubu Dalyop, as Senior Special Assistant on Labour, with an official vehicle attached to the office.

As the economic realities continue to bite harder across the country, one of the earliest interventions of the Plateau State Government in the agricultural sector was the procurement of 64,000 bags of fertilizer aimed at cushioning the impact on farmers, boosting food production, and improving food security across the state. Farmers were also captured through a digital registration system to ensure inputs reached genuine beneficiaries directly.

Some of the Achievements Highlighted by the Agriculture and Livestock Sectors

✅ Procurement and distribution of subsidized fertilizers and other farm inputs to farmers across the 17 LGAs.

✅ Digital registration and mapping of farmers to reduce diversion of inputs and improve planning.

✅ Establishment and expansion of the Plateau Farmer Data Bank, with hundreds of thousands of farmers reportedly captured for better targeting of government interventions.

✅ Investment in agricultural mechanization, including the procurement and deployment of tractors to improve farm productivity and reduce reliance on manual labour.

✅ Promotion of youth-focused smart agriculture programmes aimed at creating jobs and attracting young people to modern farming.

✅ Continued efforts to improve rural access roads, helping farmers move produce from farms to markets more efficiently.

✅ Support for livestock transformation initiatives and partnerships designed to modernize livestock production and create value-chain opportunities.

✅ Promotion of improved animal feed production, including innovative livestock feed projects such as Alfalfa cultivation trials in Plateau State.

✅ Collaboration with federal and private-sector stakeholders to expand livestock development and create employment opportunities in the sector.
