GOVERNOR MUTFWANG PLEDGES COLLABORATION WITH RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS, ETHNIC GROUPS IN FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY, INSECURITY

…Announces Joseph Ari KSM as Campaign Director-General

Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq., has called on citizens to rise above religious, ethnic and other differences and unite in the collective effort to defeat poverty, insecurity and underdevelopment in Plateau State.

The Governor made the call on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos, when the Metropolitan Grand Knight of the Knights and Ladies of St. Mulumba (KSM), Jos Metropolitan Council, Sir Mathew Yokpe, led members of the Order on a courtesy visit.

Governor Mutfwang described as unfounded allegations that his administration had deliberately sidelined the Catholic community, explaining that appointments and other leadership decisions were based primarily on competence, political realities and geographical considerations, rather than religious affiliation.

According to him, poverty remains a common challenge confronting the people across the region, irrespective of their religious or ethnic backgrounds, and must therefore be tackled through deliberate and sustained investment in agriculture, livestock, infrastructure, skills development and other productive sectors capable of creating jobs and expanding economic opportunities.

He maintained that the fight against insecurity is equally central to the administration’s economic agenda, stressing that securing communities and restoring confidence is essential to removing the barriers that prevent citizens from accessing their farms, businesses and other opportunities for economic advancement and prosperity.

Governor Mutfwang also sought to correct misconceptions surrounding the State’s livestock development agenda, noting that Plateau possesses enormous potential to become one of Nigeria’s leading livestock-producing states.

He explained that modern ranching could create substantial employment opportunities for young people, including veterinary doctors and other professionals trained in livestock management.

The Governor disclosed that the State was developing an abattoir with the capacity to process about 500 cattle daily, stressing that such investments would only achieve their intended purpose if citizens embraced livestock production as a viable and sustainable economic venture.

He added that his administration would not acquire land from indigenous people and hand it over to strangers under the guise of establishing ranches or for any other form of development, assuring the people that they could trust his administration to protect their ancestral lands, rights and interests.

The Governor further disclosed that his administration was working towards transforming the Jos Airport into an international airport, with the objective of opening new economic opportunities, particularly for the export of agricultural produce and other goods from Plateau State.

He urged citizens, particularly youths and women, to key into the administration’s economic agenda, noting that Plateau possesses a resilient, enterprising and highly productive population capable of driving sustainable development when provided with the right opportunities and enabling environment.

On security, Governor Mutfwang said his administration was leaving no stone unturned in securing the State’s borders and protecting communities, while noting that some of the strategic measures being undertaken could not be disclosed publicly because of their sensitive nature and the need to safeguard their effectiveness.

He said strategic plans had been concluded to commence the process of returning displaced persons to their ancestral communities after the farming season, emphasising that government would only facilitate their return when adequate security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee their safety, dignity and sustainable reintegration.

Earlier, Sir Mathew Yokpe said the KSM recognised and appreciated Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to peace, unity and development in Plateau State, while appealing to the Governor to ensure fair consideration of qualified members of the Catholic community in public service.

He announced plans by the Jos Metropolitan Council to launch its Endowment Fund and Charity Initiative, aimed at supporting humanitarian assistance, education, welfare and community development, and invited Governor Mutfwang to serve as Special Guest of Honour and Chief Unveiler at the event.

The event climaxed with the announcement of Sir Joseph Ntung Ari, KSM, as the Campaign Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo Campaign Council for the 2027 elections, further underscoring the administration’s commitment to broad-based political mobilisation, inclusion and collective ownership of the development agenda of Plateau State.

He reaffirmed Government’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to promote good governance through strategic communication, effective dissemination of information, and the sustenance of peaceful coexistence across the State.

Dr. Bere, while welcoming the team led by the Director-General of the Trust Campaign Council, Mrs. Lucy Chindaba, alongside the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ayuku Pwaspo, and the National Internal Auditor of the NUJ, Comrade Tongnaan Bawa, described Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq., as a journalist-friendly Governor who remains committed to improving the welfare of journalists and creating a more conducive working environment for media practitioners in the State.

He assured the delegation that the State Government would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the working conditions and professional welfare of journalists, including efforts towards enhancing the NUJ Secretariat and other facilities that would contribute to the effectiveness of media practitioners in the State.

According to him, the Mutfwang Administration recognises the critical role of the media in shaping public narratives, keeping citizens informed about government policies, programmes and activities, and sensitising the public on issues that directly affect their wellbeing and the overall development of the State.

“I am confident in affirming that the Governor remains committed to improving the lives and living conditions of the citizens of Plateau State through impactful development across all sectors. Earlier, the Director-General of the Trust Campaign Council, Mrs. Lucy Chindaba, described the visit as a “homecoming,” noting that the delegation considered the office of the Director of Press and Public Affairs as an important partner in advancing professionalism, responsible journalism and effective communication in Plateau State.

Chindaba highlighted the historic significance of Comrade Ayuku Pwaspo’s emergence as the first woman to lead the NUJ Plateau State Council after 50 years of the Union’s existence in the State.

She said the development had further encouraged women’s participation in the affairs and leadership of the Council, while expressing optimism that the new leadership would usher in greater productivity, unity and professionalism within the Union.

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR PROPOSED LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, CALLS FOR SUSTAINABLE UNITY IN ADAMAWA

…says education, healthcare remain critical tools for national development

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq., has pledged his support for the proposed Lutheran University Nigeria (LUN), Demsa, Adamawa State, describing the institution as a significant investment in education, human capital development and the future of Nigeria.

Governor Mutfwang made the commitment on Friday, September 4, 2026, while speaking at the dedication of the Library and Administrative Complex of the proposed Lutheran University Nigeria in Demsa.

The event was held as part of activities commemorating the 70th birthday of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, CFR.

The Governor commended the Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, for what he described as exemplary leadership, particularly his commitment to unity, equity, fairness and justice. He urged the people of Adamawa State to continue to rally around the Governor, stressing that unity remained indispensable to achieving sustainable development and collective prosperity.

According to Governor Mutfwang, “Divisions never bring profit; divisions never bring value. It is when we are united together that we can accomplish the dreams for which our forefathers fought and for which we are continuing to fight.”

The Governor also congratulated the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), describing the proposed university as another significant milestone in the church’s longstanding contribution to education and national development.

He noted that the initiative was part of a growing tradition within the TEKAN family of churches of establishing universities and other institutions that expand access to quality education and contribute to the development of human capacity.

He recalled the historic contributions of Christian missionaries to the development of education and healthcare in Nigeria, stressing that these interventions had played a critical role in shaping generations of Nigerians and producing leaders across religious, ethnic and geographical divides.

Governor Mutfwang said he was a beneficiary of missionary education at Gindiri in Plateau State, which, according to him, provided a solid foundation for many Nigerians who went on to make significant contributions to the development of the country.

The Governor expressed confidence that the proposed Lutheran University would similarly create opportunities for Nigerians from diverse religious, ethnic and social backgrounds to acquire quality education and develop the skills required to contribute meaningfully to national development.

He emphasised that education remained indispensable to national progress and renewed his call for deliberate and comprehensive efforts to reform the Almajiri system in Northern Nigeria, in order to provide children with sustainable access to education, skills and opportunities.

Governor Mutfwang urged the leadership of the church and other stakeholders to continue to work towards sustainable unity, observing that many divisions in society were often driven more by personal interests, ego and narrow considerations than by genuine differences in values or principles. He maintained that setting aside such differences would enable leaders and citizens to build bridges, strengthen relationships and advance common developmental objectives.

Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, welcomed Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on behalf of the government and people of Adamawa State and the Church, commending his enduring love and friendship for the people of Adamawa State.

He noted that despite the short notice, Governor Mutfwang honoured the invitation, describing his presence as a demonstration of his commitment, dedication and passion for education and human capital development.

Governor Fintiri prayed that the Lutheran University, when completed, would produce graduates who are not only academically competent but also morally grounded, intellectually sound and equipped with the character and leadership capacity required to move Nigeria forward.

He also praised the resilience, vision and determination of the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, for choosing to invest in education and human development rather than personal comfort.

The celebrant, Boss Mustapha, said his investment in education was, in part, a tribute to the memory and legacy of his late father, who was a Headmaster and had a deep passion for education.

He explained that his father believed strongly in the transformative power of education and invested substantially in developing bright minds for the advancement of society. He said the establishment of the institution was therefore inspired by a desire to contribute to the development of future generations and strengthen the educational foundation of the country.

In the entourage of Governor Mutfwang were Rev. Dr. Obed Dashan, a prominent Nigerian clergyman and former Vice President of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN); the Rt. Revd. Stanley David Fube, a prominent Nigerian cleric and Anglican Bishop of Langtang; Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Go'ar, former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and former Member of the House of Representatives; Air Vice Marshal Sen. Napolong Bali; Sir Joseph Ari, former Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF); Arc. Maurice Mutfwang, as well as Dame Pauline Tallen, who attended the occasion on a personal invitation.

Governor Mutfwang prayed for the successful completion and take-off of the Lutheran University Nigeria, expressing the hope that the institution would become a centre of academic excellence, moral formation, innovation and human capital development, producing generations of leaders who would contribute significantly to the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.

‎GOVERNOR MUTFWANG CALLS FOR UNITY AS BASHAR BEGINS NEW CHAPTER OF PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT
‎
‎Plateau State Governor, His Excellency, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang Esq, has called on the people of Bashar Chiefdom in Wase Local Government Area, to put the disagreements surrounding the traditional leadership of the chiefdom behind them and unite for peace, stability and development.
‎
‎The Governor made the call when the newly reinstated Reckna of Bashar, His Royal Highness Alhaji Abdullahi Idris, led a delegation of traditional leaders, political stakeholders and illustrious sons and daughters of the chiefdom on a courtesy visit to the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
‎
‎Mutfwang described the resolution of the traditional leadership crisis as an opportunity for a new beginning, stressing that the prolonged dispute was allowed to run its course because government was determined to achieve a solution that would produce a “win-win situation” for the people of Bashar.
‎
‎The Governor said the restoration of the traditional institution should not be interpreted as a victory for one faction over another, but as an opportunity to rebuild trust and forge a common future.
‎
‎According to him, those who supported the Reckna and those who opposed his leadership remain members of the same community and must therefore be brought together under a traditional institution that accommodates everyone.
‎
‎“Bashar is for all of you, and we must be seen to be moving together,” the Governor said, urging those who remained aggrieved by the outcome of the dispute to “shed their sword” and become promoters of peace, brotherliness and togetherness.
‎
‎Mutfwang further charged the traditional ruler to sustain the spirit of reconciliation demonstrated in his address, urging him to extend his hands to everyone irrespective of their position during the leadership crisis. He maintained that responsible leadership must be about carrying others along and using positions of responsibility as channels of blessing to society.
‎
‎The Governor assured the Bashar delegation that the protection of lives and property remained a fundamental responsibility of his administration, adding that he had held a State Security Council meeting the previous day where the General Officer Commanding (GOC) gave assurances that the military was closely monitoring developments in Wase.
‎
‎On education, the Governor acknowledged the shortage of teachers in rural communities as a statewide challenge and disclosed that government was working on measures to address the problem.

He said consideration was being given to additional incentives for teachers posted to rural areas to encourage them to remain in their places of assignment while government would follow up on the Jarmay Bridge project.
‎
‎Earlier, the Reckna of Bashar, HRH Alhaji Abdullahi Idris, commended Governor Mutfwang for his courage, patience and commitment to fairness and due process in resolving the traditional leadership crisis.
‎
‎The traditional ruler described his reinstatement as “no victor, no vanquished,” drawing the Governor's attention to the worsening security situation in parts of Bashar, expressing concern over reported killings, cattle rustling and kidnappings.

He appealed for greater coordination of any peace initiative involving security agencies and communities directly affected by the crisis. He also appealed for the deployment of qualified teachers to secondary schools in Bashar.

‎The traditional ruler appreciated the Governor's intervention in the award of the Jarmay Bridge contract and appealed for further action to ensure its speedy completion, noting its importance to transportation, agriculture, access to markets, schools and healthcare.
‎
‎He equally solicited government support for the construction of the long-proposed road linking Bashar through Jermay to Karim Lamido in Taraba State, describing the route as strategically important to trade, agriculture and economic integration between Plateau and Taraba.
