Dr. Akim Mayat Reaffirms Commitment to the Church, Commends Its Role in Nation Building
Yesterday, I had the distinct honour of joining other worshippers to attend a fundraising event at RCC Bokkos, an occasion that brought together church leaders, members of the congregation, government officials and other distinguished personalities in support of the work of God.
The event was witnessed by Mr. Amalau Samuel Amalau, Chairman, Bokkos Local Government Council, who was accompanied by the Council Secretary, Mrs. Gambi Malau, and his Chief of Staff. Other dignitaries in attendance included Amb. Mahli Maton, Commissioner, House of Assembly Service Commission, alongside other distinguished personalities, community leaders and well-wishers.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Akim Mayat described the event as particularly significant to him because of his longstanding relationship with the church. He noted that the church has been an important part of his life from childhood, having worshipped and served there in the early 1980s as a member of the choir and subsequently as a member of the Light Gospel Band.
Dr. Mayat expressed deep appreciation for the role the church played in his formative years, stressing that the spiritual, moral and social values he received during his years of fellowship remain an important part of his life and journey.
He reaffirmed that the role of the Church in nation-building and national development cannot be overemphasised, noting that the Church has contributed immensely to the development of society through its interventions in education, healthcare, agriculture, social mobilisation, community development and humanitarian services.
According to him, beyond these developmental contributions, the Church continues to play a critical role in the moral upbringing, character formation and spiritual development of citizens, particularly at a time when society is confronted with challenges such as insecurity, youth restiveness, drug abuse, moral decadence and other social vices.
He emphasised that sustainable national development requires not only physical infrastructure but also the development of responsible citizens who are guided by integrity, discipline, compassion, patriotism and a strong sense of responsibility.
Dr. Mayat commended the leadership of the church for its unwavering commitment to the work of God, describing the fundraising as an opportunity to strengthen the ministry of the Church and advance its mission of reaching lives and communities with the Gospel.
He also commended the organisers of the event for their commitment, sacrifice and initiative in bringing members of the congregation, friends and well-wishers together in support of the project.
He pledged his continued support for initiatives and programmes that will advance the work of God, strengthen the Church and promote the propagation of the Gospel, within his capacity.
He encouraged individuals, families, organisations and well-wishers to continue supporting the Church and its developmental initiatives, stressing that contributions to the work of God constitute an investment not only in the present generation but also in generations yet unborn.
Dr. Mayat expressed optimism that the project for which the fundraising was organised would be successfully completed, and prayed for God's blessings upon the leadership and members of the church, as well as all those who contributed to the success of the programme.
He concluded by reaffirming his enduring connection with the church, stating that:
“This church is part of my story. It is part of my journey and, in many respects, it is part of who I am today.”
He prayed for the continued growth and impact of the church and for God's blessings upon Bokkos, Plateau State and Nigeria.
