A landmark day for education in Kaduna State.

Today, the Ministry of Education with the Kaduna State Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project convened a Final Validation Session for two historic policy documents: the Kaduna State Policy on Gender in Education (SPGE) 2026–2030 and the Kaduna State Life Skills Policy — marking a defining milestone in the State's commitment to transformative, inclusive education.

The session was chaired by the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, and brought together a broad coalition of government institutions, development partners, civil society organisations, and implementing agencies — including KADSUBEB, KSSQAA, the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board, Bureau of Interfaith, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Ministry of Business Innovation, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Ministry of Youth Development, State Ministry of Health, State Planning Commission, Lady 360 Initiatives, EVE, SAME, the Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) Project, and the Centre for Girls Education (CGE).

The SPGE is Kaduna State's domesticated response to Nigeria's National Policy on Gender in Education — grounded in the realities of all 23 LGAs, anchored to the ASC 2024/2025 data, and designed to address the structural barriers that continue to limit access, retention, and completion for girls and boys across every level of the education system.

The Life Skills Policy institutionalises the proven gains of the AGILE Safe Space programme — ensuring that the life-changing impact of structured life skills education for adolescents outlasts any single project and becomes a permanent feature of Kaduna's education landscape.

Together, these policies represent a coherent, evidence-based, and locally owned framework for gender-responsive education across ECCDE through tertiary level.

The validated policies will now be presented to the Kaduna State Executive Council before formal publication.

Kaduna State is setting the standard. 💚

Earlier today, the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment Kaduna State (AGILE) convened its 2nd Technical Working Group (TWG) Meeting on the development of the Kaduna State Life Skills Policy. The overarching objective of the policy is to institutionalize life skills training across both formal and informal learning centres in the state.

The meeting brought together members of the Technical Working Group drawn from the Ministry of Education, Planning and Budget Commission, Ministry of Information, Bureau for Interfaith, Kaduna State School Quality Assurance Authority, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and AGILE.

When institutionalized, the Life Skills Policy is expected to promote gender equity and the empowerment of adolescent girls, strengthen school-to-work transition and employability, and reduce adolescent vulnerability and harmful practices.

At the end of the meeting, the draft Life Skills Policy was extensively reviewed, with participants making key technical inputs. The Technical Working Group is scheduled to reconvene on 2nd February, 2026.
