AN OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR SHEHU SANI: A CALL FOR COMRADESHIP, MATURITY, AND HISTORIC RESTRAINT.

Dear Distinguished Senator Shehu Sani,
I write this to you not merely as an observer of our nation’s political landscape, but in my true capacity as a fellow Comrade, someone who understands the weight of the struggles we have fought, the sacrifices made for democracy, and the sacred principles of fairness that are supposed to guide our steps.

It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of responsibility that I address the recent, unrelenting wave of public attacks you have mounted against former Governor Nasir El-Rufai via your social media platforms.

Distinguished Senator, politics must have boundaries. When public commentary shifts from structural accountability to what clearly looks like personal vindetta and deep-seated bitterness, it damages the very fabric of our shared struggle. Intolerance can only last when both parties enjoy an equal level of freedom and footing. But when one party is navigating high-pressure, vulnerable, and potentially life-threatening political conditions, mounting yet another load of sand over his head does not look like justice. It looks like kicking a man while he is down.

Let us look back honestly at the journey. When Malam Nasir El-Rufai was in power and the political friction between you two was at its peak, many of us stood strong with you. We spoke out because El-Rufai was in a position of immense power, and we believed in protecting the space for dissent. Yet, looking back at the 2015 political victory, it is clear that El-Rufai’s aggressive posture was often a survival mechanism to hold off an angry coalition of politicians who felt abandoned after the elections. Many shielded their swords to let him deliver on his radical vision of rebuilding Kaduna, an urban renewal that today gives Kaduna people and the North a sense of pride.
Unfortunately, you chose to take this battle completely personal, erasing those monumental efforts as child's play.

What makes the current dirty and nasty public war between you, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, and Governor Uba Sani so deeply tragic is your shared history. The three of you shared your childhood days across Kaduna and Zaria. Your families are well-known to each other beyond the transient theater of politics. Yet, the level of hatred and perceived betrayal on display is beyond comprehension.

We must ask ourselves, what exactly are you teaching the generations coming behind you?

Who among us is perfect, decent, and entirely infallible? What else is each of the three of you still seeking to become in life that requires the total destruction of a childhood neighbor and fellow state actor?

Power is a revolving door, Senator. Today, you are closely aligned with Governor Uba Sani, navigating the corridors of influence. But life outside of office is always longer than life inside it. If you help establish a precedent where a vulnerable opponent is buried without mercy, you pave the way for that same precedent to be used against you when the political wheels inevitably turn again.

I urge you to look at the spirit of comradeship and sportsmanship exemplified by veteran activists like Omoyele Sowore. The true "Sowore Spirit" teaches us to fight policies fiercely, to challenge systems relentlessly, but to never lose our basic human empathy or let personal bitterness dictate our actions against an adversary in a moment of vulnerability.

For the sake of peace, sanity, and the future of Kaduna State, I call on you to de-escalate the rhetoric. Let the formal, institutional processes handle questions of governance and finance without the addition of highly charged social media campaigns. It is time to choose political maturity over retaliation, and diplomacy over deep-seated friction.

Comrade, IG Wala,

Kaduna deserves bold, competent, and people-focused leadership, leadership that understands the challenges of today and has the vision to build a stronger tomorrow.

Hon. Bello El-Rufai has consistently shown clarity of thought, courage in public service, and a deep commitment to the progress of our people. His voice, energy, and understanding of governance make him a strong contender to lead Kaduna State into a new era of growth and stability.

I join many well-meaning citizens in calling on him to step forward and contest for the office of Governor of Kaduna State under the banner of the ADC. This is a call to serve, a call to lead, and a call to make a difference.

Kaduna needs leadership that listens, acts, and delivers. The time is now.
