ADC CONDEMNS ATTACK ON SUPPORTERS, CALLS ON APC TO RESPECT DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS AND FOCUS ON GOVERNANCE

The campaign organisation of the ADC Governorship Candidate in Kaduna State, Rt. Hon. Isa Mohammed Ashiru Kudan, strongly condemns reports of an attack on some supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) who were on their way to welcome our candidate following his return from a trip.

Any act of political violence, intimidation, harassment or assault is unacceptable and completely incompatible with the democratic values we profess as a nation.

While we are still awaiting the full facts surrounding the incident, the reports are sufficiently concerning to warrant an immediate and thorough investigation by the relevant security authorities. We therefore call on the security agencies to identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice, regardless of political affiliation or status.

We also call on the leadership of the APC in Kaduna State to publicly condemn political violence and uphold the fundamental right of every citizen to freely associate with, support and campaign for the political party or candidate of their choice.

Supporting the ADC, APC, PDP or any other political platform is a legitimate democratic choice. Political opponents are not enemies, and no citizen should be threatened, harassed or attacked simply because of who they choose to support.

If the APC is confident in its record and its vision for Kaduna State, it should allow the people to make their choice freely. Elections must be won through ideas, performance, persuasion and the confidence of the electorate—not through intimidation, harassment or fear.

More importantly, we remind the APC-led Kaduna State Government that the commencement of political activities does not suspend the responsibilities of government.

The APC cannot occupy the seat of government and behave as though it is merely an opposition party preparing for an election. Until the very last day of its mandate, it remains responsible for the security, welfare and wellbeing of every citizen of Kaduna State—including those who do not support the APC.

The government should therefore concentrate its attention on the issues that matter most to the people: security, education, healthcare, employment, infrastructure, economic opportunities and the overall welfare of Kaduna citizens.

Campaigning does not absolve any government of its responsibility to govern. The people deserve good governance, not political intimidation.

The ADC and the campaign organisation of Rt. Hon. Isa Ashiru Kudan remain committed to a peaceful, issue-based and democratic campaign. We will not be distracted from presenting our vision for a better Kaduna, and we will not allow acts of intimidation to diminish the people’s right to participate freely in the democratic process.

Our message is clear: Let citizens choose freely. Let candidates campaign peacefully. Let security agencies protect everyone. And let the government govern.

Kaduna belongs to all its citizens—not to any political party.

KADUNA ATTACK: NO ONE HAS A MONOPOLY ON VIOLENCE, ADC WARNS

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the attack on its members in Kaduna State, warning that no individual, group or political party has a monopoly on non-state sanctioned violence, and that those introducing thuggery into the 2027 political process are playing a dangerous game.

In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC National Publicity Secretary, the party said the attack represented an unacceptable escalation at a time when political activities ahead of the elections are only just beginning.

“Let nobody mistake our commitment to peaceful democratic participation for weakness. No political party has a monopoly on non-state sanctioned violence. Once violence becomes an accepted instrument of political competition, nobody can predict where it ends.

“This is why the security agencies must act now. Those responsible for the attack, as well as anyone who sponsored or organised it, must be identified, arrested and prosecuted.”

The ADC expressed solidarity with its governorship candidate, Hon. Isa Ashiru, and members affected by the incident, while calling on the Kaduna State Government to guarantee the safety of opposition parties.

“Kaduna belongs to its people, not to any party. If anyone believes intimidation will frighten the ADC off the political field, they have badly miscalculated.

“We will not be intimidated. We will organise, we will campaign, and we will compete in every part of Kaduna State. The 2027 elections must be decided by ideas competing at the ballot box, not by thugs and bruises.”
