AGBOYI-KETU, Lagos – The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has called on traditional rulers, political leaders, artisans, and all residents of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA to fully embrace the state’s health insurance scheme, Ilera Eko, as part of a renewed push for universal health coverage.
The appeal came during a stakeholders’ engagement meeting held yesterday, Thursday 30th April 2026, at the Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Multipurpose Hall. The event, convened by LASHMA, was led by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, who was represented by Mr. Tosin Awosika.
Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Awosika underscored the Lagos State Government’s determination to register every resident of Agboyi-Ketu into the scheme, stressing that affordable and quality healthcare should not be a privilege but a right.
“We are committed to achieving universal health coverage. That means every Lagos resident must have access to healthcare without financial hardship,” Awosika said, while calling for effective collaboration between LASHMA and the local council to drive the scheme’s success.
Other LASHMA officials, including Mrs. Adebukola Jayeoba, Area Coordinator, and Mrs. Bunmi Peters, Emergency Care Officer, detailed the benefit packages of the Social Health Insurance Scheme. Residents were assured of 24/7 customer service support to guide them on medical insurance services.

“We will ensure our citizens have easier access to quality health services. I urge every stakeholder here to take it as a personal responsibility to sensitize families, friends, and communities on the benefits of Ilera Eko,” Hon. Fatai said.
The engagement ended with a warm reception for the LASHMA team, and responses from the Iyalode of Agboyi-Ketu, Chief Mrs Jemilat Busari Adenuga, the Iyaloja, Alhaja Shakirat Balogun and the CDC Chairman, Engr. AGBOYI-KETU CHAIR LAUNCHES SECOND EDITION OF S.H.E INITIATIVE TO EMPOWER SCHOOLGIRLS.
In a continued push to support the health and dignity of young students, the Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, Hon. (Mrs.) Adetola Adunni Abubakar, presented the second edition of her flagship S.H.E (Safety and Hygiene Education) Programme, tagged "Flow With Confidence."
The event, which took place in the council area yesterday, March 5, 2026, saw Hon. Abubakar, who is widely regarded as a dedicated mentor and advocate for youth welfare, reaffirm her commitment to empowering the girl-child. True to the programme's theme, the initiative focused on providing both education and essential resources to tackle period poverty and promote personal hygiene.
As part of the event, cartons of sanitary pads and detergents were distributed to students from ten selected primary and secondary schools within the LCDA.
Beyond the distribution of the supplies, the Chairman used the platform to deliver a powerful message regarding the safety of young girls. Addressing the students directly, Hon. Abubakar took a firm stand against sexual molestation, harassment, and violence. She encouraged the students to break the culture of silence, urging them to report any incidents of abuse immediately to their teachers or the Department of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA).
In a passionate pledge, Hon. Abubakar vowed to personally ensure justice for any victim. “I will be notified and will go all the way to prosecute any person that tampers with my girls,” she stated emphatically. “I encourage you to always speak up and report any case of molestation. Do not allow anyone to intimidate you. If anyone dares to harm you, they will have me to contend with.”
She assured the attendees that all reports would be taken seriously, thoroughly investigated, and that perpetrators would face the full weight of the law.
The event highlighted the council’s ongoing dedication to education and welfare. In addition to the immediate distribution, it was announced that the distribution of sanitary pads would now occur more frequently, ensuring that young girls can attend school with confidence without the barrier of menstrual hygiene challenges.
The Head of Department for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Adeyemi, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the Chairman’s visionary leadership. The ceremony concluded with closing prayers offered by Mr. Nojeem Enitan, the Director Admin and Human Resource Department.
