A Yoruba adage; Aiti ko ifa nle, ifa t'inse, meaning - we haven't even started predicting an event, and it has started manifesting.

This video which come from an unknown source on the social media confirms my fear.

CHRISLAND SCHOOLS -
We lost another angel and one of our future leaders in Chrisland School in a controversial circumstance.
The cause of death unknown as at time of report.
Sadly, they are important lessons to be learnt in this heart -breaking incidence:
-Are there safety precautions like medical checks for fit before each sports engagement?
- was there any hints of unfit displayed possibly by Whitney A. which some of her close colleagues can be privy to.
-Did Chrisland Schools made provision for standby medical resources : Attendants, Ambulance, CPR administrator, Nurse and of course choosing a strategically located and standard Hospital nearby sport venue that will be easily accessible in the event of emergency.
- Does the school has safety/security team equipped both with knowledge and experience of safety management?
-Autopsy investigation should be conducted and report diseaminated for learning curve.
We have been advocating the NEED to take issues of SAFETY Management in learning environment very serious and not just to be treated with the rule of thumbprints or after thoughts.(Government and Schools management)
How many schools can boast of one form of Access control or the other -even the simplest one.
A stitch in time saves many.
ASUU strike is over.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS for Students & stakeholders.
1. Individual rooms in hostels and lodges to be properly cleaned and dusted to avoid common infections associated with insects and rodents invasion
2. Water pipes would have carried diets and microbial organisms....
3. And of course check for REPTILES invasion
4. Be conscious of flood prone areas, especially ditches covered in water
5. Cultism activities which is usually motivated by political struggle must be a NO, NO
6. When you buy consumables, check for shelves life(expiry dates).
7. Responsive Vigilance to security threats in and around the school . "If you see something, say something" security is everybody's business.
RECOMMENDED ADVANCE PREVENTIVE STRATEGY:
Student Union should form safety squad or Safety committee to work with school authorities for follow -ups on relevant checklists and ensure necessary maintenance and checks are carried out by those saddled with such responsibilities.
