Jakande Tops Lagos Reporters’ Ranking, Driving Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Forward

Dr. Seyi Jakande, Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, has emerged as the standout performer in the latest independent ranking by Lagos Reporters, the watchdog known for holding politicians accountable across the state. In just 250 days, his administration amassed 15,200 points outpacing all 57 local government chairmen. More than a scorecard, the achievement reflects lives touched, opportunities created, and a community steadily advancing. Even in the last 100 days, Odi-Olowo secured 5th place, underscoring consistency and collective effort.

Jakande’s leadership, anchored on the HEWA agenda, has been visible in every sector. Youth empowerment has taken center stage, with sports, entertainment, and ICT training programs opening doors for young people to showcase talent and acquire skills vital for today’s economy. His administration has also made environmental sustainability a priority, championing cleaner streets and green awareness campaigns that signal a commitment to healthier living and resilience for the future. Education has been another pillar of his drive. Pupils have received free school bags, exercise books, and mathematics sets, while free bus rides have eased the burden of transportation for families. Hundreds of indigent students have benefited from the free GCE and mock exams. ensuring that financial constraints do not block access to higher education. Beyond materials and mobility, Jakande introduced JAKO JOLLOF, Quiz and Debate, a free school feeding program that guarantees children a daily meal, reinforcing his belief that learning is best sustained when hunger is removed from the classroom,, Youth empowerment through Nollywood training,

Development has remained people-centered. Sixteen roads have already been commissioned, improving mobility, safety, and economic activity, with more projects underway. Agriculture has not been left behind, subsidized sale of food and chicken for the community during Christmas, support for local farmers strengthens food security, and ensures that the community not only grows but thrives.

For Jakande, topping the Lagos Reporters’ ranking is not just a personal accolade—it is a testament to leadership rooted in service, vision, and impact. The HEWA agenda continues to shape Odi-Olowo into a community where care, opportunity, and progress are shared by all.

Jakande Cracks Down on Roadside Traders Over Environmental Safety

Dr. Seyi Jakande, the Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, has issued a final warning to traders — particularly perishable goods sellers — operating along Aina George, Johnson, and Olusoji Idowu Streets, insisting that strict adherence to environmental safety standards is now mandatory or they face sanctions.

The warning follows a sweeping operation by a Joint Taskforce of Òdì-Olowo Transportation and Environmental Corps (OTEC) and Odi-Olowo Waste and Environmental Management Authority (OWARS) on Thursday, April 9, which cleared drainage blockages and dismantled illegal structures across Olusoji Idowu, Johnson, Aina George, Olutunda, Oba Nlé Aro Streets, and parts of Ikorodu Road as well as adjoining streets. The exercise targeted indiscriminate waste disposal and roadside trading that have long disrupted drainage water flow.

Jakande expressed alarm at the growing presence of fruit sellers and cart pushers whose activities, he said, worsen drainage obstruction and raise the risk of flooding as the rainy season approaches. He stressed that environmental degradation directly threatens public health and community safety.

Residents and traders have now been given a final ultimatum to keep surroundings clean, stop dumping refuse indiscriminately, and avoid trading in unauthorized spaces. The taskforce has also removed heaps of debris and restored water passage through critical drainage networks.

The chairman emphasized that this intervention is part of a broader strategy to safeguard lives, prevent environmental hazards, and promote sustainability. He urged full cooperation from community members, warning that enforcement will continue and sanctions will be applied to those who flout the rules.

Yesterday, I had the honour of joining Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, alongside distinguished dignitaries, for the commissioning of two landmark projects in Lagos—the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Building and the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge. These projects are not just structures; they are symbols of progress, connectivity, and efficient governance.

I must commend Mr Governor for his visionary leadership. These initiatives are truly game-changing for Lagos, and I encourage my colleagues at the local government level to complement such strides by ensuring development reaches the grassroots.

At Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, we are committed to this vision. Through empowerment programs for women and youth, healthcare initiatives, education improvements, infrastructure upgrades, and environmental sustainability projects, we continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people.

Together, with synergy between state and local governments, we can build a Lagos where megacity ambitions translate into tangible benefits for every community.
