TEEN TECHPRENEURSHIP COMPETITION

The Wifi Combat Academy is a digital incubation hub offering a variety of educational technology solutions to institutions, schools and government in order to help prepare our children for the 21st century workforce.

Wifi Combat Academy, through their partnership with other organizations, have been able to organize several start - ups workshop for Teens and Youths.

The Teen Techpreneurship workshop is an empowerment program for Teens to learn how to collaborate and launch creative tech business venture. The 2nd cycle of the Teen Techpreneurship program was held in 2019.

Dr Adetola Salau was invited as one of the judges during the 3rd cycle of the workshop program which was held in partnership with American corner, on the 14th of April 2023.

In addition to launching the new mathematics textbook, "Make Yourself a Mathematician," the hosts organized a fun-filled trivia contest for the students who attended the event.

The contest involved solving mathematical problems and answering general knowledge questions related to mathematics. The students who participated in the trivia contest had a chance to showcase their knowledge of mathematics and compete for various prizes.

The contest was designed to encourage students to apply the concepts they had learned from the new textbook and develop their problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Overall, the authors hope that their book will inspire and encourage students to explore the world of mathematics and discover the many practical applications of this fascinating subject.

On March 28th, 2023, "Make Yourself a Mathematician," textbook was launched.
The book, written by Dr. Fubara Dan Jumbo and co-authored by Dr. Adetola Salau, and Mr. Nathaniel Longjohn, aims to make mathematics more accessible and easier to learn for students.

Despite being an essential subject, many students struggle with mathematics. The book attempts to simplify mathematical concepts by relating them to real-life situations and making the learning process more engaging and interactive.

The book contains numerous examples, exercises, and practical applications that make learning mathematics more enjoyable and less intimidating. With "Make Yourself a Mathematician," students can develop their problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, and critical thinking abilities, essential skills for success in many areas of life.

On March 25th, 2023, Dr. Adetola was invited as a guest speaker to ImpactHer International Women's Day (IWD) event.

ImpactHer is a non-profit organization that empowers African women entrepreneurs by bridging the gender business financing gap, thereby helping them to realize their full economic potential.

The event was educative and impactful, as female entrepreneurs were gathered to socialize and network.

Dr. Adetola's speech centered on the importance of financial literacy, mentorship, and self-belief in business growth. The event was a success, as it enabled female entrepreneurs to gain knowledge, share ideas, and build valuable relationships.

Dr. Adetola Salau has been selected as one of the Top 100 Career Women for the third edition of the 9to5 Chick Top Career Women in Africa list for 2023.

This annual compilation recognizes the remarkable impact and outstanding achievements of mid and senior-level female professionals across the African continent.

As a recipient of this honor, Dr. Adetola joins a distinguished group of women who have demonstrated excellence in their respective fields, ranging from finance and technology to healthcare and education.

This recognition highlights Dr. Adetola’s contributions to her profession and her commitment to advancing the status of women in the workplace.

W.A.S.H QUIZ COMPETITION

The Nigeria Institute of Mechanical Engineers, in partnership with Lagos Water Corporation, recently organized a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Essay/Quiz Competition for students in junior and secondary schools.

The three-section event aimed to encourage young students to be innovative and inventive while promoting the importance of WASH in their schools and communities.

In commemoration of the World Water Day, the grand finale was held on Tuesday, March 21st 2023, with Dr. Adetola Salau serving as the Guest of Honour. The competition provided a platform for young people to communicate about WASH and inspire others to practice the same in their daily lives.

THROWBACK THURSDAY

GIRLS-IN-STEM MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

The second edition of the Girls in STEM mentorship program was held on Monday, 20th February 2023, at Lagos City Senior College, Sabo, Yaba. The event was organized by STEAM UP LAGOS in partnership with Open Access Data Centres and Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) with the aim of promoting STEM education among girls and inspiring them to pursue careers in the field.

Under the auspices of the Senior Special Assistant (Education) to the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Adetola Salau, the program was a huge success with a large turnout of girls. The girls had the opportunity to interact with Ms. Olayinka Fashola; The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment as well as Mrs. Ruby Onwudiwe; Executive Director, Operations COURE software & Systems and learn from their experiences.

The event was an important step towards encouraging young girls to be a part of the STEM pipeline in Nigeria and beyond, and will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and development of the field in the years to come.

Yesterday, on 9th March 2022, GetBundi Education Technology in collaboration with the Lagos State Government through STEAMUP Lagos successfully launched the GetBundi STEM and Digital Skills pilot center at Wesley Girls Secondary School in Yaba, Lagos State.

The initiative is aimed at equipping students with advanced skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) through the integration of digital technology in the learning process.

The center will serve as a model for promoting STEAM education in public schools across Lagos State. This partnership will enhance the students' capacity to compete globally and participate in the emerging digital economy.

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere.

Let's continue to uplift, support, and empower each other, not just on International Women's Day, but every day.

Together, we can create a more equal and inclusive world.

Since taking office, Governor Sanwoolu has demonstrated unwavering commitment to improving the education sector in Lagos state, particularly through edtech programs.

Under his leadership, several innovative programs have been implemented, these efforts have not only improved access to educational resources for our children, but have also positioned Lagos state as a leader in digital education in Nigeria.
