Enugu Airport Reached 95% Completion,

To be Opened on August 30

The Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, would be reopened on August 30, 2020. The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika stated this in a video message sent through the Director, Public Affairs of the Ministry of Aviation to journalists.

He disclosed that the airport has attained 95 percent completion after inspecting the work done so far.

He also stated that government recognized the importance of the airport to the whole of the South East region and the hardship occasioned by its closure.

By August, 2020, it will be 12 calendar months since the Enugu airport was closed for rehabilitation work by the federal government.

The airport was initially billed for reopening before Easter, 2020 but had to be shifted because of the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

The minister commended the Enugu State Government and the Southeast governors for their corporation and stated that the newly built runway is one of the best in the country at the moment.

He further opined that the present administration met the terminal project at about 20 percent but had taken it to the present stage.

Information reaching FreightWatch, however had it that the rehabilitation work was done in the domestic wing and was not extended to the international wing of the airport.
