We empathise with the family of the late veteran actor Olu Jacobs who passed on from this world today, September 16, 2026.

The late 84 year old veteran starred in British movies such as Ashanti, Pirates, Baby: Secret of the lost legend. He also featured in notable Nigerian movies such as Owo Okuta, Ewaoluwa, Adesuwa, Royal Hibiscus Hotel, Oloibiri and many others.

We pray for comfort for his family and friends at such trying times as this.

"I am the voice of the voiceless; through me the dumb shall speak. Till the deaf world’s ears be made to hear the wrongs of the wordless weak. I am my brother’s keeper, and I will fight his fights; and speak the words for beast and bird."
Ella Wheeler Wilcox

In a world where legacies are often measured by status or achievements, we must ask: who speaks for the voiceless, for the common man, for women and girls whose dignity is compromised by poverty?

That is what we set out to do with My Period My Pride Radio Drama.

📍Rising costs of living mean women and girls from low‑income families are forced to choose between basic needs and menstrual dignity.
📍Our drama tells the story of Mama Efe, a single mother struggling to provide for her family, where buying pads is a luxury.
📍It reflects the reality of girls like Efe, stained in school and tired of using wrappers, and Seki, who is vulnerable to exploitation when her needs go unmet.

This isn't barely storytelling but advocacy. It is a wake‑up call to lawmakers: we need policies that guarantee free sanitary pads for secondary school girls.

Dignity should never be optional for our young girls and women.

Join us in supporting this cause. Together, we can create a better life for our girls and women. Send a message to [email protected]

Menopause!

While we are learning to break the silence around periods, many still do not understand what menopause is all about.

Well done Scott

The most misunderstood period of a woman's life:

Menopause.

1 in 5 women even quit their job because of it.

Here's what happens to your body (& how to fix it):

1. Before menopause.

For most of your life, your hormones do the heavy lifting for you.

Estrogen keeps your metabolism quick, your muscle easy to hold, your mood steady, your sleep deep.

You could eat a little wrong, skip the gym, and mostly get away with it.

Then things start to change.

2. Then menopause arrives.

As estrogen drops, everything you relied on shifts.

Fat moves to your belly.
Your muscle fades faster.
Sleep breaks.
Your mood swings.
Your energy disappears.

The old tricks stop working, and most women think their body is broken.

It's just changing the rules.

3. And it hits harder than anyone warns you.

1 in 5 women even quit their jobs because of menopause symptoms.

The brain fog, the exhaustion, the loss of confidence, it's real, and it's hormonal.

But here's what almost no one tells you: this can be the start of your strongest years…

Fix #1: Lift heavy.

Muscle is the one thing that fights back against every menopause symptom.

It rebuilds your metabolism, protects your bones, and gives you back your shape and strength.

Lift 3 to 4 times a week and get a little stronger each time.

Fix #2: Eat enough, and eat your protein.

This is not the time to starve.

Undereating slows your metabolism and burns the muscle you need.

Eat enough to fuel your body, and aim for around 1g of protein per lb of goal bodyweight.

Protein holds your muscle and kills the cravings.

Fix #3: Protect your sleep and lower your stress.

Menopause spikes the cortisol that stores belly fat and wrecks your sleep.

Get 7 to 8 hours, walk daily, get morning sunlight, and breathe when life gets heavy.

Calm hormones make everything else easier.

This is the reframe that changes everything.

Menopause isn't your body failing you.

It's your body asking for a new approach.

Give it muscle, protein, sleep, and movement, and these become the years you feel strongest, most capable, and most yourself.

The worst period of your life can become the best.

It just takes the right plan.

Boys Need Menstrual Health Education Too

Menstrual health education isn’t just for girls. Boys need to be part of the conversation too.

This beautiful video shared by Funmi Olorunmola shows exactly why.

At such a young age, this wonderful boy is making reusable sanitary pads for the women and girls in his family. That is empathy, care and menstrual literacy in action.

When we exclude boys from conversations about menstruation, we miss an opportunity to raise men who understand, support and respect the menstrual experiences of the women and girls around them.

Menstrual literacy today can help build a more supportive generation tomorrow.

Funmi Olorunmola was one of our speakers at the “Including Boys in Menstrual Health Conversations” Webinar. She leads the Pad-A-Girl-Today team and was also a guest on the My Period Stories Podcast.

Why Fibroids are More Common Among Women of African Descent

Research shows that women of African descent are disproportionately affected by uterine fibroids, developing them more frequently and often at younger ages than women of other racial and ethnic backgrounds.

This is caused by
✔️Genetics
✔️Hormonal exposure and balance/imbalance
✔️Vitamin D levels
✔️Nutrition
✔️Lifestyle
✔️Environmental factors

In this video, Dr. Mikhail Higgins breaks it down simply, clearly and in a way that’s easy to understand.

Today we reminisce on the late 92 year old journalist, writer, political activist and feminist, Gloria Steinem.

For more than six decades, she challenged stereotypes, amplified women’s voices, and inspired generations to question inequality and demand change.

Two weeks ago, we had our webinar on including boys in menstrual health conversations. On my period stories podcast, we asked a question: what if men menstruated? It began with Gloria's satirical essay published in the October 1978 Ms. Magazine. The 48 year old is relevant and as true as ever.

We celebrate Gloria today. She is a beacon of a creating a lasting legacy.
