CALL IT A FALLACY, BUT MANY PEOPLE DON'T BELIEVE IN PROFESSIONALS IN BUILDING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION.
It is surprising to witness how people in the middle class and professionals from other sectors are disregarding the involvement of engineers and architects in the design and construction of their buildings.
These individuals are the ones who often require the services of professionals in this field.
Occasionally, I hear statements such as, "I don't need an architect and engineer, I just want a bricklayer who can help me build it with just a sketch."
Allow me to ask you a few questions:
Can you start all over again if something goes wrong while using an unqualified person?
Do you have the financial means?
Are you aware of the need for regular maintenance that will be required for substandard work?
If you don't know, then you need an architect and engineers for your design and construction, as they will assist you in minimizing costs and finding ways to cut expenses without compromising the quality and standard.
These professionals can help you design a building that suits your budget.
Similarly, as an expert in your own field, when people respect you, don't you think it is important to reciprocate that respect by acknowledging and respecting other professions as well?
Building it correctly from the start is crucial, as the cost of maintenance or remediation will be greater than your initial planned expenditure.
Avoiding unqualified individuals is more cost-effective than dealing with the consequences later on.
Think wisely and avoid making short-sighted decisions.
Try to get it right the first time to avoid double spending.
Don't always wait for a crisis situation to arise before reaching out to professionals.

HOW LONG DOES CONCRETE NEED TO CURE?
Curing is an essential part of the concrete construction process, as it helps to ensure that the concrete develops its strength, durability, and other desirable properties. Without proper curing, the concrete can become weak, prone to cracking, and more susceptible to damage.
(1). Strength development: Curing allows the concrete to continue to hydrate and harden, which leads to the development of its strength and durability. Without proper curing, the concrete can become weak and prone to cracking and other forms of damage.
(2). Reducing cracking: Curing can help to reduce the likelihood of cracking in the concrete. During the curing process, moisture is retained in the concrete, which helps to prevent it from drying out too quickly and cracking.
(3). Surface hardness and durability: Curing helps to improve the surface hardness and durability of concrete. This can help to prevent the formation of surface defects, such as dusting, scaling, and spalling.
(4). Reducing shrinkage: Curing can help to reduce the amount of shrinkage that occurs in the concrete as it dries. This can help to prevent the formation of cracks and other forms of damage.
(5). Uniform colour and texture: Proper curing can help to ensure that the colour and texture of the concrete are uniform and consistent throughout the surface.

Many site engineers and supervisors fail to understand their roles on the site.
It is alarming to claim to be on-site and overlook critical structural elements, such as a bricklayer reducing a 225mm by 225mm column to 150mm by 225mm, which cannot withstand the intended load and moment.
It is essential to pay attention to details and if need be use a checklist to ensure your presence on the site is meaningful.
Always prioritize quality and safety by checking and rechecking all the structural element sizes to ensure that everything is built correctly.
Performing your role on-site is crucial for the success of any construction project.
Neglecting to do so could lead to costly mistakes that could put people's lives and the entire project at risk.
In summary, site engineers and supervisors must be diligent and responsible for their actions on the site to ensure that the project is successful.
Always check and recheck to get it right!

Stirrups are a type of reinforcement used in reinforced concrete structures to provide lateral support to the longitudinal bars and prevent them from buckling under compression. During an earthquake, the lateral forces generated by the seismic waves can cause significant bending and shear stresses in the reinforced concrete members, leading to structural failure if they are not properly designed.
Stirrups are typically bent at a 45 or 135-degree angle to provide the necessary confinement and prevent the longitudinal bars from buckling. This is because these angles provide the most effective resistance to the diagonal cracking that can occur in the concrete under seismic loading.
If the stirrups are not bent at these angles, they may not be able to provide the necessary lateral support to the longitudinal bars, and they may open or deform during an earthquake. This can lead to diagonal cracking and potential failure of the reinforced concrete structure.
It is important to ensure that the stirrups are properly designed and placed in reinforced concrete structures to withstand the forces generated during earthquakes. This can be achieved by following the appropriate building codes and regulations and engaging experienced and qualified engineers in the design and construction process.
