The Lagos State Government in its determination to ensure safety of Lagosians and free flow of traffic has urged the tanker drivers whose vehicles are illegally parked and abandoned on Alaka and Eko bridges to vacate the bridge immediately and adhere strictly to the Lagos Road Traffic law as the State Government will not hesitate to enforce traffic rules and regulations whenever they violate the law.
The General Manager of Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA), Engr. Babatunde Edu, who led the monitoring team which comprised of top officials of the Agency lamented the disorderliness and traffic chaotic situation on Eko bridge/ Funsho Willaims Avenue and said that it became necessary to checkmate the excesses of tanker drivers in order to cushion the hardship on innocent Lagosians. Edu noted that the axis are gradually becoming an eye sore, and if not properly managed could aggravate to the level of lawlessness and indiscipline being witnessed daily at Apapa Area of the State. According to him the State Government being a responsible and responsive would ensure that every citizen has a right to the roads as the state roads are not constructed only for the articulated vehicles.

Consider the man on horseback, and I have been a man on horseback for most of my life. Well, mostly he is a good man, but there is a change in him as soon as he mounts. Every man on horseback is an arrogant man, however gentle he may be on foot. The man in the automobile is one thousand times as dangerous. I tell you, it will engender absolute selfishness in mankind if the driving of automobiles becomes common. It will breed violence on a scale never seen before. It will mark the end of the family as we know it, the three or four generations living happily in one home. It will destroy the sense of neighborhood and the true sense of Nation. It will create giantized cankers of cities, false opulence of suburbs, ruinized countryside, and unhealthy conglomerations of specialized farming and manufacturing. It will make every man a tyrant. ~R.A. Lafferty, "Interurban Queen," 1970, a short story set in the late 1800s (Thanks, Sam!)
Dear Nigerians, pls let play safe on the road. Road traffic crash is fast killer disease than HIV. Yet FGN pay more attention to such disease leaving the real killer!
Children are one of the high-risk groups in traffic. They lack certain essential skills that are necessary for being a reliable and safe road user. Children still have to learn to judge complex traffic situations correctly. Their mental development, i.e. concentration and the ability to estimate speed and distance etc. correctly, limits the safe traffic participation of children.
Safety is the key. If our community embraces the four major elements of Towards Zero: safe road use, safe roads and roadsides, as well as driving safe vehicles.

Road traffic safety: The term road traffic safety is an indication of how safe individual users are on some particular road, or on the roads belonging to some region. The main danger to road users is the likelihood of a traffic collision. Such dangers can be reduced by individual road users operating cautiously and defensively, by building roads in alignment with competent traffic engineering practices, by the application of rational traffic control methods, and by designing road vehicles so they are more able to avoid and survive collisions.
