MAMMOTH SOLIDARITY RALLY ROCKS IFELODUN LOCAL COUNCIL DEVELOPMENT AREA AS RESIDENTS STAND FIRM FOR MAYOR OKEOWO

In an extraordinary show of unity, solidarity, and appreciation, residents of Ifelodun Local Council Development Area staged a peaceful rally in overwhelming numbers to express their unwavering support for the Executive Chairman, Mayor Dr. Olufemi Akanbi Okeowo. The event, which took place on Thursday, 16th April 2026, was a remarkable demonstration of grassroots endorsement, as people from all walks of life gathered to celebrate a leadership widely described as purposeful and transformative.
The rally, which recorded a mammoth turnout, was largely motivated by recent controversies fueled by an online blogger accused of spreading misleading and malicious information aimed at discrediting the achievements of the Council Chairman. Rather than allow such narratives to create division or unrest, the good people of Ifelodun LCDA chose to respond in a peaceful, organized, and powerful manner, by standing firm in support of a leader they believe has delivered beyond expectations.
From the early hours of the day, the council secretariat became a convergence point for thousands of residents, all united by a common purpose, to defend the truth and celebrate good governance. The atmosphere was charged with positive energy, as participants carried placards bearing inscriptions that highlighted the numerous developmental strides of the Chairman across key sectors such as infrastructure, education, health, youth empowerment, and environmental sustainability.
The rally drew participation from a broad coalition of community stakeholders, including the Community Development Committee (CDC), the Market Association, the Council of Imams, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the Association of Special Persons, artisan groups, transport unions such as the NURTW, as well as ethnic bodies like the Igbo community and the Arewa community. This diverse representation further underscored the far-reaching impact of the Chairman’s administration.
Speaking during the rally, Alhaji Idowu Bolaji who is the Chairman, Community Development Community (CDC) in Ifelodun LCDA commended the Executive Chairman for his consistent and remarkable performance since assuming office in 2021. He highlighted the numerous developmental projects and people-oriented initiatives that have transformed Ifelodun LCDA, describing the administration as one driven by vision, inclusiveness, and genuine commitment to grassroots development.
Speaking on behalf of the Market Association, the representative commended the Chairman for his consistent support to traders and market stakeholders, particularly through infrastructural upgrades and empowerment initiatives that have improved the ease of doing business. He described the Chairman as a leader who understands the grassroots economy and prioritizes the welfare of traders.
The representative of the Council of Imams offered prayers for continued guidance, strength, and divine wisdom for the Chairman. He noted that the administration has promoted peace, religious tolerance, and inclusive governance, which has strengthened unity within the community. He urged the Chairman to remain steadfast and continue his good works.
Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) expressed profound appreciation for the leadership style of Mayor Okeowo, describing him as a God-fearing leader whose actions reflect integrity and compassion. They offered prayers for long life, good health, and sustained success in office.
Youth representatives under the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) applauded the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, citing various skill acquisition programmes, employment opportunities, and inclusive governance structures that have given young people a voice and a sense of belonging.
The Association of Special Persons also took the opportunity to express gratitude, noting that the administration has not sidelined persons with disabilities. They commended the Chairman for promoting inclusivity and ensuring that their needs are recognized and addressed within the governance framework.
Artisan groups, in their remarks, praised the administration for creating an enabling environment for skilled workers to thrive. They highlighted ongoing infrastructural projects that have boosted local economic activities and improved livelihoods across the wards.
Representatives of the NURTW commended the Chairman for his proactive approach to transportation management and road rehabilitation, noting that his interventions have eased movement and enhanced safety for commuters and transport operators alike.
Leaders of the Igbo community (Ndi Igbo) and the Arewa community also spoke glowingly of the Chairman’s leadership, emphasizing his inclusive approach and commitment to fairness. They reiterated their support and pledged continued cooperation for the growth and stability of the council area.
The rally reached a peak as participants raised placards with inscriptions such as “Okeowo is Working,” “Progress You Can See,” “A Leader for All,” and “Ifelodun is Moving Forward.” These messages echoed the collective voice of a people proud of the progress recorded under the current administration.
At the time of the rally, members of the 6th Legislative Council, who were preparing for their plenary sitting, stepped out to receive the crowd on behalf of the Executive Chairman. The lawmakers, led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Ilesanmi Elijah Oluwatosin (JP), warmly welcomed the residents and acknowledged their show of love and solidarity.
Addressing the crowd, the House Leader expressed deep appreciation for the massive turnout, describing it as a clear testament to the Chairman’s connection with the people. He stated, “I am amazed by this mammoth crowd flooding the council secretariat today; this clearly shows that the Chairman is truly a man of the people.”
He further urged residents to remain steadfast in their support, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective responsibility in sustaining development. According to him, continued prayers and encouragement will empower the Chairman to achieve even greater milestones for the benefit of all.
Other councillors present also commended the residents for their peaceful conduct and reaffirmed the commitment of the legislative arm to continue working in harmony with the executive for the progress of Ifelodun LCDA.
The event concluded on a note of hope, unity, and renewed commitment to development. The rally not only served as a strong rebuttal to misinformation but also reinforced the bond between the government and the governed.
Indeed, the peaceful rally stands as a powerful reminder that when leadership delivers, the people will always rise, not in protest, but in proud defense of truth, progress, and purposeful governance.
