*SOMOLU–BARIGA SERVING COUNCILLORS FORUM STRENGTHENS GRASSROOTS ENGAGEMENT AS LEGISLATORS TAKE PVC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN ACROSS THE CONSTITUENCY*
*Joint Legislative Visit Highlights Unity, Collaboration and Commitment to Electoral Participation Ahead of the 2027 General Election*
In a renewed effort to promote civic participation, strengthen grassroots electoral awareness and deepen inter-legislative collaboration ahead of the 2027 General Election, the *Bariga 6th Legislative Council,* led by Rt. Hon. Balogun Wasiu Adeleke, in collaboration with the *Somolu 10th Legislative Council,* led by Rt. Hon. Tunde James Oyeyiola, has embarked on a joint visit to Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centres across Somolu Federal Constituency.
The exercise, which commenced on Friday, 9 October 2026, is aimed at raising public awareness about PVC collection and encouraging eligible residents across Bariga Local Council Development Area and Somolu Local Government to collect their voter cards in preparation for the forthcoming 2027 General Election.
Beyond its electoral sensitisation objective, the joint engagement also demonstrates the spirit of unity, cooperation and shared responsibility promoted by the *Somolu–Bariga Serving Councillors* Forum, a platform through which serving councillors from both legislative councils can foster mutual understanding, strengthen institutional relationships and promote collaborative efforts towards community development.
The forum reflects the importance of building bridges across legislative institutions, encouraging constructive engagement among elected representatives and creating opportunities for joint initiatives that benefit residents of both councils.
As part of the exercise, the joint legislative delegation visited four PVC collection centres across the constituency. The centres visited include Ayinke Primary School, Ladilak, Bariga; Morufudeen Primary School, Ijagbemi Street, Pedro; Oke Meta Primary School, Bajulaiye; and Igbobi Junior High School, Igbobi-Fadeyi.
During the visit, the legislators emphasised the importance of voter participation and encouraged eligible residents to take the necessary steps to ensure their readiness to participate in the electoral process.
The initiative further demonstrates how cooperation among serving councillors can translate into meaningful grassroots engagement, particularly in promoting civic responsibility, public awareness and democratic participation.
The Bariga legislative delegation comprised the Deputy Leader, Hon. Abiola Sakiru Olayinka; Majority Leader, Hon. Adeogun Funmilayo Seun; Chief Whip, Hon. Ogunbanjo Ademola Matthew; Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Ogbere Christina Idowu; Hon. Olushesi Bolaji Isiaka; Hon. Oloko Surajudeen Olawale; and Hon. Onakoya Oluseun.
The Somolu legislative delegation included the Deputy Leader, Hon. Ibrahim Tajudeen; Majority Leader, Hon. Raheem Afees; Chief Whip, Hon. Sinat Adelaja; Hon. Tosin Odubanjo; Hon. Olubiyi Afolarin; Hon. David Joseph Olugbenro; and Hon. Kehinde Alimat Jolaosho.
The joint visit underscores the importance of sustained public sensitisation, inter-legislative cooperation and community-level engagement in promoting electoral participation. Through the platform of the Somolu–Bariga Serving Councillors Forum and other collaborative initiatives, the two legislative councils continue to demonstrate the value of working together in pursuit of shared democratic and community development objectives.
The joint sensitisation exercise is expected to continue across other PVC collection centres within Somolu Federal Constituency as the two legislative councils sustain efforts to reach more communities, engage residents and encourage active participation in the forthcoming general election.
Residents of Bariga LCDA and Somolu Local Government are encouraged to seek accurate information from the appropriate electoral authorities regarding PVC collection and applicable voter registration procedures.
