There are several Covenants in the Bible but five covenants are crucial for understanding the story of the Bible and God's redemptive plan:
Noahic covenant
Abrahamic covenant
Mosaic covenant
Davidic covenant
The new covenant (Jer 31: 31,33)
ABRAHAMIC COVENANT:
(a) Abram means exalted father
(b) Abraham means father of multitude
(c) Abrahamic covenant is generally held to be unconditional but this an error, God would not and could not fulfil such wonderful (promises) covenant with any people while in rebellion and
Gen: 17:9-10
Abraham and Sarah doubted God: Gen 15: 7-21, 18:9-15,17:17
Walk before me and be thou perfect (Gen 17:1)
Circumcise all men (Gen 17:10)
Abraham entertained strangers (Gen 18: 1-15)
The covenant between God and Abraham consisted of three parts:
1. The promise land
2. The promise of descendants
3. The promise of blessing and redemption
The story of Abraham and Sarah teach us the following:
The entire story of Abraham and Sarah is seen in Genesis 12 through Genesis 23, It shows that
1. You can trust God with an unknown future
2. You can listen to and obey God even when you didn’t see the fruit
3. And God’s promises are greater than our ability to obey
