"GRASSROOTS MY TERRAIN", Shija welcomes direct primaries - 2

Responding to a caller, Shija stated that, if voted into office, he would work assiduously with the State House of Assembly to establish an indigenous security outfit to protect the State against both internal and external attacks.

"It is obviously the way to go," he opined. "States in the south west have already established their security outfit known as Amotekun and I think it's doing a lot for them. We cannot afford to leave our people open to all manner of attacks from wherever."

He stressed that security is of optimum importance in all developmental initiatives and added that as Governor he would encourage and initiate robust discourse among traditional rulers in the State so as to enhance inter-tribal unity and understanding among the State's ethnic groups.

Shija reiterated his oft repeated position that Benue State is gifted with enough abundant natural resources which he would properly harness to place the State on a sound economic footing to kick start its development, which he said is long over due.

This, he explained, coupled with the high literacy level of the State which he said is at an average of 67%, which is one of the highest in the northern part of the country, Shija said he would deploy technological innovations to further boost the State's development and greatly improved it's revenue profile so as to clear all outstanding pensions, gratuities and other financial obligations of the State.

Shija regretted that Benue people had in the past rejected highly educated people as Governor and asked to be given a chance to offer service, promising that he would not disappoint Benue masses.

"GRASSROOTS MY TERRAIN", Shija welcomes direct primaries

Leading Benue State governorship aspirant on the ticket of the APC Prof. Terhemba Shija says he is completely comfortable with the decision of the State APC to adopt the direct method for the conduct of its gubernatorial primaries.

Prof. Shija made this known while fielding questions on a one hour radio phone-in program 'Let's Discuss' which was aired earlier today on Harvest FM Makurdi.

He described the decision as a God-sent opportunity, emphasizing that as a grassroots politician of more than thirty years, he is at home with the masses. "The grassroots is my terrain", he said.

Exuding confidence, the don used a Tiv adage to further illustrate his point when he said, "Ruam osugh gba a gba shin iue," meaning the ball of foo foo has merely fallen into the plate of soup.

Shija explained that before the decision, he had been racking his brains on how to raise the enormous amount of money required to service the delegates who would have trooped into Makurdi for the delegates' election, after struggling to purchase the form at a whopping N50m which he said was the nine year cumulative salary of a university Professor like himself.

ALWAYS WITH HIS FRIENDS...

In typical fashion, Prof. Terhemba Shija this afternoon paid a sympathy visit to a friend and journalism colleague Mr. Simon Iwar, a very popular presenter with Harvest FM Makurdi who has been under the weather recently.

Shija thanked God for Iwar's recovery and wished him even faster recovery.

It can be recalled that Shija was one of the early callers at the NUJ House Makurdi when the pen men lost Mr. Terna Doki, another veteran journalist earlier.

Shija was accompanied on the visit by his long time friend and acquaintance, Barrister Iorcugh Igbayue.

ALWAYS BUBBLING!

The Prof. Terhemba Shija Gubernatorial Campaign office never stops bubbling. Just this afternoon, a Directors' meeting was transformed into a celebration when the Director General Dr. James Mbachiantim unexpectedly introduced an item which was not scheduled for discussion; he officially presented a beautifully decorated cake to the organization's Deputy DG, Ambassador Simeon Eche who celebrated his 60th birthday last Sunday this week with a well attended thanks giving service.

On behalf of Prof. Shija and the rest of the team, Mbachiantim apologized to his Deputy for the absence of most major officers of the organization at the service, and explained that it was due to political activities at the APC headquarters in Abuja.

Amb. Eche, who was visibly excited, appreciated the gesture. He enthused that he had indeed found another family in the Shija campaign organization where laughter always abounds.

The jollification was captured in the following:

It is witchcraft to rely on the 2014 last minute crossing over of Ortom into APC, his being (criminally) gifted its ticket and later emerging Governor with latest celestial gerrymandering and wishful thinking.

By 2014, Ortom's pedigree as a well grounded grass roots politician was well established. The man had, long before then, held several political posts (including Guma LG Chairman, etc), remember? Come to think of it, and with the benefit of hindsight, how has that political misadventure helped Benue State, even with Ortom's pedigree? Today, even those who masterminded that piece of chicanery are gnashing their teeth in regret (as are, from their graves), thousands of pensioners, workers and other hapless Benue indigenes.

Benue's political godfathers will not repeat that mistake by supporting hypocrisy, inexperience, proven incompetence, fickle mindedness as well as total disregard to covenants reached with Almighty God Himself, to lord it over experience, tested and trusted competence and integrity. Especially not from people with no understanding or articulated plans to solve the myriad problems confronting the State.

Benue's political class has become more discerning than that.

Benue politicians will do right and support one of their own, especially in the APC where Prof. Terhemba Shija is already set to emerge as candidate.

Aspirant Across Borders, Prof. Terhemba Shija, Benue's Governor in waiting earlier today as a matter of courtesy presented his APC Governorship Nomination Form to Middle Belt Leader of the party and Minister of Special Duties and Inter religious Affairs Chief George Akume.

The presentation took place in Akume's residence at Judges' Quarters Makurdi.

Elder Simon Shango was also there. The tone of the pictures tell the story of how it all went down.

SHIJA INSISTS ON BENUE REBUILD
By Sam Adzegeh
The leading Governorship aspirant for the governorship of Benue State in 2023, Prof. Terhemba Shija, has reiterated his calls for people of the State to carefully assess those presenting themselves as Governorship aspirants in 2023 so as to avoid making the mistakes of the past which have plunged the State into its current socio - economic problems.
Shija made the comments while presenting his nomination form to the Benue public yesterday at a ceremony which took place at his campaign headquarters in Makurdi yesterday.
A statement from Honourable Samuel Adzegeh, Special Adviser on Media to Professor Shija, says the occasion attracted hordes of supporters from across the State and even beyond.
Addressing the crowd, Shija reemphasized his commitment to rebuild the State with policies that would directly impact on youth, the aged, retired civil servants, pensioners and other under privileged persons in the Benue society as contained in his blueprint, the Benue Rebuild Agenda, a document which promises to reposition the State through massive investments in its human and agricultural resources so sas to take the State to its rightful place in Nigeria.
Identifying security as the bedrock of all developmental endeavours, Shija said he would synergize with the State House of Assembly and also promote inter-State and other cross border initiatives to ensure lasting peace in the Benue society.
The occasion featured good will messages from an intimidating array of giants in the political and academic world including Professors Moses Ogbaji and Atser Gyuve of JS Tarka University, (formerly Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi), and Nasarawa State University Keffi respectively, as well as Drs. Ata Pine and Bishop Sunday Onah, a former member of the Benue State House of Assembly as well as former Chairman Adoh local government.

ENTER THE CANDIDATE!

It was typical Shija.

In another scintillating outing which was in sharp contrast with the norm, the leading aspirant across political divides in the race for Government House Makurdi shunned the usual carnival of hired crowds and fake supporters.

As a veteran of many political battles, he knew that three quarters of such 'teeming supporters' are usually made up of rented crowds and jobless alaskas whom you will find at every such political gathering. With neither jobs nor real hope for a better future, what else does one expect of these traumatized Benue sons and daughters so cruelly reduced to the fringes of human existence by the last seven years the locusts ate out of Benue's existence?

And so Prof. Terhemba Shija refused to subject these brothers and sisters to another dehumanizing and potentially hazardous experience of trekking the long distances from Agan village (Toll Gate) in Makurdi's scorching sun, cheering tin God's riding in air-conditioned SUVs, an empty ritual with no meaningful impact on the State's socio-economic development.

Instead of this charade (usually adopted by empty politicians) with nothing to offer but the usual lpreying on human foibles and misfortunes, the Professor of hope chose his modest campaign office to receive his Nomination Form which was obtained for him by his campaign team just the previous afternoon.

The event, neither planned for nor announced on any formal media outlet, attracted hordes of supporters from across the State and beyond.

There, Shija presented his nomination form to the Benue community, and reiterated his commitment to Rebuild the State with policies directly impacting on youth, the aged, retired civil servants, pensioners and other under privileged in the Benue society.

Aptly tagged the Benue Rebuild Agenda, the document promises to rebuild the State through massive investments in its human and agricultural resources to take the State to its rightful place in Nigeria.

SHIJA THANKS HIS SUPPORTERS, APPEALS FOR MORE VIGILANCE BY BENUE PEOPLE

Stand out aspirant for the 2023 Governorship of Benue State on the platform of the APC, Prof. Terhemba Shija, has expressed sincere appreciation to his teeming supporters across ethnic, political and religious divides for their sustained support which enabled him pick up the party's nomination ticket yesterday.
In a letter of appreciation signed by the Director Media & Publicity of his campaign organization, Hon. Samuel Adzegeh, Shija noted that this support, sustained through the years and expressed through sincere prayers and contributions in both material and other means, has enabled him sustain his struggle for the rebuilding of Benue State that would not only realize but surpass the vision of the founding fathers of the State.
Prof. Shija, who decried the harsh living conditions in the State which he said have been exacerbated by the confused, directionless and corrupt tendencies of the last seven years, stressed that has made it imperative that all sons and daughters of the State unite behind a God fearing and courageous leader so as to bring a people oriented change in the governance of the State.
Shija regrets that, instead of the masterminds of the embarrassing state of affairs in the State showing genuine contrition and asking forgiveness from God and the people, whom they have so thoroughly offended they are still actively involved in efforts to foster further suffering on the people by sponsoring godsons who have little or no understanding of State policy or any articulated plans for the positive transformation of the State to take over its leadership at this crucial time. Shija called on the people to reject such failed leaders and their proteges.
While re-emphasizing his gratitude for the show of love and support, Shija reiterated his charge to the people of the State to thoroughly scrutinize all manners of people parading themselves as potential leaders.
