Ojema Charges NAAS to Remain Apolitical
—Receives New EXCO

By Ojila Yahaya Monday

The Member Representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief Dr. Pst. Ojotu Ojema, has advised the National Association of Apa Students (NAAS) to remain apolitical in order to effectively advance the interests of students in the local government.

The Aboche K’Idoma gave this charge on 28th December, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the leadership of NAAS at Onyebi Hotel, Ugbokpo.

The student delegation was led by the President-elect, Comr. Moses Efugoga. Other members of the delegation included the outgoing Senate President, Comr. Justice Aleyi; former Senate President, Comr. Ogbole Godday; Deputy Senate President, Comr. Jonathan Ajene; former President, Comr. Ogwola Jnr, and several other student leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Comr. Justice Aleyi commended Chief Ojema for his consistent support and leadership. According to him, “Your leadership speaks for itself. We are especially grateful for the numerous scholarships you have awarded to our members over the years. These gestures have given hope to many students.”

He further reflected on the internal challenges previously faced by the association. “In the past, NAAS experienced divisions that led to factions and instability. However, we have now resolved our differences. United by a common purpose, we have produced a single, faction-free executive council,” he said.

Aleyi added that the delegation was present to formally introduce the new EXCO and seek guidance and support. “We consider this a strategic step, taken in the best interest of the students whom you have always shown genuine concern for,” he noted.

In his response, Chief Ojema congratulated the President-elect and members of the newly elected executive council. He praised the students for restoring unity within the association and emphasized the importance of focus and neutrality.

“I am pleased that you have put your house in order and deemed it necessary to formally present yourselves,” he said.

“Students’ unions should not be involved in mainstream politics. Your strength lies in remaining apolitical, united, and purposeful, so you can attract opportunities and benefits for your members.”

He assured the students of his continued support, while urging the new leadership to prioritize peace, discipline, and academic excellence in their administration.

I must give Kudos to Hon. Chief Ojotu Ojema as a worthy son of the Apa/Agatu. A dynamic house of representative member and not a bench warmer. A serial bill originator. A hard working and innovative Rep member. A true representative of the people. A shining example of how to be a representative. You have proven yourself to be as such over a short space in the green chamber. Remained blessed and keep up the good work. The people are with you and at same token will not be afraid to criticize you when wrong steps are taken because you are human and not God. Only God does no wrong.

Best regards ✍️
