2nd Plenary Session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Katsina

The second legislative sitting of the Nigerian Youth Parliament in Katsina proved historic, marking the highest number of motions and resolutions directly impacting the welfare and security of Nigerian youths.

A standout motion called for the release of the eight‑month backlog payments owed to over one million young Nigerians by the Federal Government. We not only urged that the arrears be paid but also advocated for a revision of the stipend from ₦30,000 to the newly approved minimum wage, reflecting the current economic climate.

The motion, presented by my brother and Honourable colleague Hon Mubarak Umar Dirdiu (Adamawa South), received overwhelming, unanimous support from the young parliamentarians.

In addition, the Majority Leader my brother Ridwan Barade (Nassarawa West) raised a motion on farmers‑herders peace and pastoral reform, emphasizing the need for dialogue, equitable resource allocation, and structured grazing policies to end recurring conflicts.

The Hon. Speaker directed the House Committee on Social Investment Programmes and Humanitarian Affairs once constituted to liaise with the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau Jibrin, the leadership of N‑Power beneficiaries, and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to obtain first hand information and expedite the release of the funds.

To conclude the session, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Aliyu Idris Zakari announced the appointment of principal officers and committee chairmen/vice‑chairmen for the House standing committees.

Following the plenary, the Nigerian youth Parliamentarians proceeded to inspect two flagship projects of the Governor of Katsina State Mal Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda :

*Katsina State Agricultural Mechanization Center, where the Governor has secured over 400 tractors, 10 combine harvester and other machines to support dry season farming, boosting productivity across the state.

*Katsina Dialysis Center, a vital health facility that will provide life‑saving renal care to residents.

We pray that God Almighty ensures all resolutions passed during this 2nd legislative sitting translate into tangible benefits for Nigerian youths and the nation at large.

Day 2 of the Legislative Sitting of the Nigerian Youth Parliament at Katsina State Assembly.

MY NYP INAUGURATION 2025

Last year, I was nominated to represent Benue North West Senatorial District at the Nigerian Youth Parliament alongside other brilliant young leaders from across the country.

It was an opportunity I embraced with humility and deep commitment to serve.

However, along the line, the journey became tough.
Interests that sought to cut corners made efforts to remove my name and I was shortchanged in a manner that could easily have discouraged any young person striving for due process. But instead of giving up, I chose to stand firm. I fought head on not with bitterness, but with faith, clarity and the conviction that what is rightfully mine cannot be taken away.

To the glory of God, today I am delighted to announce that I have been successfully inaugurated as a Member of the 6th Session of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, representing the proud and resilient people of Benue North West.

This victory is not mine alone. It is a collective triumph made possible by exceptional individuals and bodies who refused to allow injustice to prevail.

I extend my deepest appreciation to the;

1. Hon. Minister of Youths Hon.
Olawande Emmanuel Ayodele for his timely intervention, fairness and commitment to protecting the integrity of youth leadership in Nigeria.

2. The Honourable Commissioner, Benue State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, for his steadfast support, guidance and consistent assurance that due process would be upheld.
My sincere appreciation also goes to the dedicated staff of the Ministry, whose efforts, follow ups and encouragement contributed immensely to this outcome.

3. Forum of IQMen 🧠, your unwavering support, strategic guidance and solidarity made a great impact.

4. Benue Youths; thank you for standing by me, raising your voices and insisting that the right thing be done.

5. Friends, mentors, and well-meaning Nigerians who checked on me, encouraged me and ensured I stayed focused.

Your belief in me rekindled my strength and reminded me that the struggle was for something bigger than myself.

As this new chapter begins, I pledge to work diligently and represent our constituency with honour and integrity.
I will raise issues that matter, champion opportunities for young people, and stand as a strong, consistent voice for Benue and Nigeria.

It is also important to emphasize that the Nigerian Youth Parliament is a non partisan platform. Therefore, in the discharge of my duties, I shall be knocking on every door across party lines, institutions and sectors to attract development to my constituency and to Benue State at large. This mandate is a sacred trust and I will not take it for granted.

To every young person facing a similar challenge, never allow anyone rewrite your destiny. Stand firm.
What is yours will always find its way back to you.
