NIGERIA @ 66: FFS PLACES PERSONNEL ON HIGH ALERT FOR INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION
As Nigeria commemorates its 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday, 1 October 2026, the Controller-General, Federal Fire Service, CGF Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, MBA, MDRM, ACTI, FCNA, has directed all operational formations of the Service to remain on high alert and sustain uninterrupted emergency response across the country.
The directive, issued through the Office of Federal Operations under the leadership of the Deputy Controller-General, DCG Kehinde Ajasa, requires all officers and men on operational duty to remain at their posts, with fire appliances, response crews and essential emergency resources fully available throughout the celebration period.
For the Federal Fire Service, a public holiday is not a holiday from duty. While Nigerians celebrate, firefighters will remain on the front line, ready to respond swiftly to fires, rescue situations and other emergencies at any time.
The CGF has directed commanders to pay particular attention to areas with expected high human movement, public gatherings, major transport routes, markets, commercial centres and other identified fire-risk locations. The Service also urges Nigerians to celebrate responsibly, exercise caution while travelling and observe basic fire-safety precautions.
The Controller-General further charged personnel to maintain professionalism, vigilance and effective collaboration with other emergency and security agencies to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration.
The Federal Fire Service wishes all Nigerians a safe and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, every day and at every hour.
