ATIKU APPROVES LEAN, PEOPLE-DRIVEN ADC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL

Former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the ADC, Atiku Abubakar has approved a campaign structure shaped by the realities Nigerians face every day. When families are struggling with food prices, transport costs and shrinking incomes, a campaign asking for their trust must show discipline in how it operates.

Kashim Ibrahim-Imam will chair the Council, with Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman. Senator Austin Akobundu will serve as Director-General and Campaign Manager, responsible for turning strategy into coordinated action.

Six Deputy Directors-General will lead the operational directorates, working with 30 Directors assigned specific responsibilities. Dele Momodu will head Media and Communications, while Dino Melaye will lead Contact and Mobilisation.

Mohammed Hayatudeen will chair the Policy Team, working with Professor Mohammed Sagagi and other members, including Professor Kingsley Moghalu, to develop practical answers to the problems Nigerians have put before us. John Oyegun will chair the Campaign Advisory Board.

This is a structure built for work. Every directorate has a duty. Every director has an assignment. Every appointee must account for results.

Our measure of success will be how clearly we address the cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power—and how effectively we organise to make Nigeria affordable again.

Director, Strategic Communication, ADC Presidential Campaign Council & Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria 1999-2007 & Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress.

Atiku Abubakar Condemns Deaths of Nigerians in NSCDC Custody, Demands Justice and Accountability

I am deeply saddened and profoundly disturbed by the deaths of dozens of Nigerians while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State.

These were human beings—sons, fathers, brothers and loved ones—whose families had every right to expect that, regardless of the allegations they faced, the state would protect their lives, dignity and fundamental rights while they remained in its custody.

No Nigerian should enter government custody and lose the most basic right of all: the right to life.

I commend the Federal Government for its swift decision to suspend the officers under whose watch this tragedy occurred and to order a full investigation. This is an important first step, but it must not be the end of the matter.

The investigation must be independent, thorough and transparent, and its findings must be made public. Anyone found responsible, whether through direct action, abuse of authority or negligence, must be held fully accountable in accordance with the law.

The families of the deceased deserve more than condolences. They deserve the truth. They deserve justice. And Nigerians deserve the assurance that being in the custody of the state will never become a death sentence.

My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families at this painful time. May Almighty God grant them strength and comfort, and may the truth be established without delay.

— Atiku Abubakar GCON
