God Has Been Faithful to Me and My Family — Longers Anyanwu Assures Imo of Food Security

Speaking at my thanksgiving ceremony at St. Mary’s Metropolitan Catholic Church, Obowo, I expressed my deep gratitude to God for His faithfulness to me and my family.

“I will forever be grateful to God for the gift of life, a virtuous wife, the gift of children, and for making life meaningful for me,” I said.

I recalled how my family waited for more than 10 years for a child, only to tragically lose our son in a motor accident.

Despite the pain, we continued to trust in God, who eventually blessed us with other children.

As part of the thanksgiving, I pledged to tile the Catholic Women Organization hall of St. Mary’s Church and donated yams and bags of rice to traditional rulers and party leaders during the annual Iri Ji festival.

I commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for recovering lands previously seized by hoodlums and expressed optimism that the lands would be put to productive agricultural use.

I also assured farmers across Imo State of the commitment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to provide farm implements and other support to boost food production and tackle food insecurity.

As part of activities marking my birthday, I had the privilege of sharing the blessings of this season with our traditional rulers by presenting them with tubers of yam cultivated here in Imo State.

For me, it was an opportunity to showcase the quality of agricultural produce from our dear state and to reaffirm my commitment, as Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, to promoting agriculture and encouraging our farmers.

The yam is a symbol of our land, culture and hard work.

Through the presentation of these locally cultivated yams to our traditional rulers, I wanted to demonstrate that Imo State has the capacity to produce food that can feed our people and contribute meaningfully to economic development.

I deeply appreciate the traditional rulers, political leaders, family, friends and well-wishers who joined me at the thanksgiving service on Sunday, August 16, 2026, to thank God for another year of life.

I am deeply grateful to God for the gift of life and for the opportunity to celebrate another year with family, friends, associates and well-wishers.

As part of activities marking my birthday, I held a thanksgiving service on Sunday to appreciate God for His faithfulness, guidance and blessings throughout the years.

I was particularly honoured by the presence of the Imo State APC Chairman, Chief Austin Onyedebelu, who represented our dear Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, at the service.

I sincerely appreciate everyone who joined me in celebrating this milestone.
