This phenomenon, characterized by a lack of active engagement in religious practices, a decline in spiritual fervor, and a detachment from religious values, poses a significant challenge to the future of faith in the country. Several factors contribute to this growing apathy, including the influence of secularism, the allure of materialism, and the impact of social media.

This article delves into the multifaceted causes of religious passivity among Nigerian youths, exploring the ways in which societal shifts and technological advancements have reshaped their relationship with religion. Furthermore, it proposes practical and actionable solutions to reignite religious interest and commitment. By addressing the root causes and implementing targeted strategies, it is possible to foster a generation of young Nigerians who are actively engaged in their faith, contributing to a stronger and more vibrant religious community.

Secularism, with its emphasis on separation of religion and state, has significantly influenced religious passivity among Nigerian youths. Exposure to secular ideologies through education, media, and social interactions has led to a questioning of traditional religious beliefs and practices. This involves encouraging youths to use social media platforms to share positive religious messages, engage in meaningful discussions, and connect with their faith communities. Religious leaders and organizations can create online content that aligns with religious values and provides guidance on navigating the digital world.
