LULU-BRIGGS: I AM NOT INTIMIDATED BY THE RAINBOW COALITION
The Governorship Candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has dismissed the political alignment known as the “Rainbow Coalition”, saying he is not intimidated by its size or composition.
Lulu-Briggs stated this during a media parley in Buguma, where he drew an analogy between the biblical story of David and Goliath and the political contest ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
He said the story remains a powerful reminder that size, strength and political machinery do not necessarily determine the outcome of a battle.
According to him, while Goliath appeared stronger, better equipped and more experienced, David faced him with something greater — faith in God.
Lulu-Briggs said the same principle applies to the political situation in Rivers State, noting that his confidence rests not on the strength of any political arrangement, but on God and the people.
He expressed confidence in the ability of Rivers people to make an informed decision based on their experiences and their understanding of the challenges confronting the state.
The NDC candidate said the consequences of government decisions are ultimately borne by ordinary citizens; market women, young graduates, businessmen, civil servants, farmers, fishermen and parents seeking better opportunities for their children.
He noted that many Rivers people are tired of political divisions, exclusion and a system where opportunities are determined by connections rather than merit.
Taking a swipe at the Rainbow Coalition, Lulu-Briggs declared that “the rainbow has lost its colour.”
He argued that what may appear politically formidable from a distance does not necessarily represent the aspirations of the people, stressing that Rivers State needs a new direction rather than another political arrangement centred on power.
He said the state must reset its politics, governance and economy, rebuild trust between government and citizens, and create an environment where every Rivers person has a fair opportunity to contribute to and benefit from the state's development.
Lulu-Briggs maintained that the 2027 contest is bigger than his personal ambition, describing it as a choice between maintaining a system controlled by a few and building a Rivers State that truly belongs to its people.
Reflecting again on the biblical account, he noted that David did not defeat Goliath because he was physically stronger, but because he had faith and understood that the giant was not the final authority.
Lulu-Briggs said the same conviction guides his political journey, insisting that the people, rather than political alliances, will ultimately determine the future of Rivers State.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the Reset Rivers State agenda, expressing confidence that, with God and the people, a new direction for the state is possible.
