Press Release

REJECTION OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT AUTONOMY BILL BY BENUE STATE HOUSE of ASSEMBLY UNFAIR
- Roberts Orya

Benue Governorship Hopeful under the YPP, Chief Roberts Orya has described as unfair the recent rejection of the Local Government Autonomy Bill by Members of the Benue State House of Assembly.

Chief Roberts Orya who described the actions of the Assembly Members as obnoxious and against the popular aspirations of the Benue people, said the lawmakers acted more on a self seeking mission rather than thrive in the good and best interest of the people.

He says the proposed LG Autonomy is sacrosanct as it is the only option best suited to entrench the deeper dividends of democracy across citizens which must be anchored primarily on the welfare and security of the people .

Full text below:

1) That the Local Government is the closest tier to the ordinary citizen needs not to be over emphasised, same way the constitutional recognition of LG as tier of the Federal System

2) Consequently any piece of legislation to ensure greater independence for LG administration and governance should not have been contemplated in the negative.

3) It's important to note that you can never deliver democracy benefits especially to the people at the bottom of the ladder in our rural communities if the State Governors continue to hijack and divert the local government funds to other uses.

4) The truth of the matter is that the best measurement index for a performing Governor is the level of development at the local government level with the provision of essential facilities such as;
-culverts/bridges to link markets
-rural roads infrastructure
- health centres/clinics to help take care of basic medical needs of the communities
-electrification of communities
- establishment and upgrading of markets to improve trade
- attention to primary school education and vocational and technical skills acquisition centre
-provision of potable water etc.

5) These are services that the local government administrators can comfortably provide given the monthly allocation to each local government by FAAC.

6) It is therefore very disappointing that our representatives have willingly and without any consultation whatsoever, decided to shoot down the best decision for our people.

One then wonders whose interests are they representing.

7) Local Government Autonomy or not, the practical implementation of BETS come 2023 will not interfere with local government funds but would institute a strict monitoring and delivery mechanism to ensure prudence, transparency and accountability.

8) Our government will do things differently and appropriately and we do possess the political will to do that.

9) I feel so sad with this unpopular action by members of Benue State House of Assembly. It's indeed a shame!!!

- By Nicholas Dechi

Chief Roberts Orya, the Benue Governorship Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has promised to place the State among the top economies of the country, if elected in 2023.

This is contained in a Statement signed by his Media Aide, Mr Emmanuel Akosu on Friday in Makurdi.

Orya said the State has huge economic potential which has not been tapped by successive administrations.

“As such, it will only be a finance expert like me that will tap the revenue sources that are yet to be tapped thereby placing the state on the world map of economic viable States.

“I am set to change the fortunes of the State and place it among economically developed states like Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Kano, Lagos, Cross River and Kebbi as well those with fast growing economies like Nasarawa,” he said.

The former Managing Director MD/CEO, NEXIM Bank, said that it was because of his desire to turn around the economic fortunes of the state that he decided to join the governorship race.

“The state deserves the best leadership, with competence, passion and vision to lift its economic fortunes for the greater good of the people.

“If given the mandate, I will place emphasis on attracting foreign investment, as well embrace innovative agriculture, tourism and rural infrastructure to develop the state.

“I will not be depending on the Federal Allocation to develop the State,” he said.

2023: ROBERTS ORYA CALLS FOR YOUTH SYNERGY TO ACHIEVE TRANSFORMATION

- By Akosu Emmanuel Lubem

A Frontline Governorship Candidate under the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Chief Roberts Orya has called for youth synergy and proactiveness towards achieving transformation for the State, saying Benue must be come first.

Chief Orya while reacting to the recently conducted supplementary elections for some State Assembly Seats, describes the smooth conduct of the exercise as a huge success indicating that a new Benue was in the offing.

Chief Roberts Orya while interacting with a select team of the Press, emphasizes that Benue deserves the best form of leadership beyond premodial considerations, but competence , passion and vision to lift it's economic fortunes for the greater good of its citizens.

The Former MD/CEO NEXIM Bank says his Benue Expansive Transformation Strategy (BETS) 2023 underscores the deeper economic and social challenges of Benue State with quick solutions to resuscitate and transform the State and improve the economic well-being of her people.

Roberts Orya maintained that his proven capacity and pedigree in both the public and private sectors at national and international realm clearly stands him out as an Experienced, Passionate, and Visionary Leader who is set to change the fortunes of the State and place it amongst competitive states like Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Kano, Lagos, Cross River, Kebbi, and fast economically rising Nasarawa state.

He equally added that given his expertise as a veteran investment banker, as well as a renowned trade, financial, and development expert, with global networks, he would place emphasis on attracting foreign investment, innovative agriculture, tourism, rural infrastructure, entrepreneurship, effective education, social harmony, with less attention on the Federal Allocation to develop the state.

He charged the youth to be more productive as core development agents and future leaders of tomorrow.

Public Notice!

The Management of Luxurium Leisure Services LT Managers of the Benue Hotels & Resort Makurdi today rose in the early hours of Saturday 6th August, 2022 to witness an appalling turn of events by some staff of the hotel who had hurriedly packaged a protest against the Management over non - payment of two months Salaries.

While Management considers this as a legitimate aspirations of any worker to get his or her due wages for work done, the sudden resort to self help without recourse to laid down procedures in organizing a protest of this nature calls to question, as it not only failed to adequately utilize internal resolutions and negotiations procedure, but only blatantly expressed disregard to the tenets guiding employer- employee relationship.

We wish to state as follows-

1) Benue Hotels and Resort under the Management of Luxurium Leisure Services Limited is a corporate body entirely committed to it's social and corporate responsibilities to staff, customers and stakeholders, with a deep commitment to welfare of the over 200 employees mostly of the Benue youth segment.

2. Over the years, the Management has given her employees the appropriate motivations and worker friendly conditions with prompt payment of Staff emoluments. In this wise, we genuinely sympathize with staff for owing a two month Salaries at a stretch.

3. However, the Staff are fully aware that the Hotel is being owed over 200Million by its Clients, with the Benue State Government owing the highest proportion of the debt. As a result, this has adversely affected the cash flow position of the Hotel . It is noteworthy to state that the same Staff are actively involved in aggressive recovery of these outstanding debts.

4. Management has consistently dialogued intimately with staff over this current financial position. We have consistently noted the general economic downturn with high operational cost on items like diesel, Security, food, beverages etc. Sincerely appealing to the Staff to show more understanding as genuine efforts are being made to recover these debts and settle all outstanding wage obligations.

5. We indeed are taken aback by this quick revolt by some staff. However, we shall continue to adhere and improve on our conditions of service, despite the prevailing unfriendly economic operating environment. as these.

5. Despite of all these constraints, we are committed to retaining and sustaining the current Staff strength as the Management is not contemplating any cut or slash in jobs in view of the current harsh economic realities of the day, avoiding throwing our youth into the already over saturated labour market.

6. We implore and challenge crises merchants to halt further media propaganda and other political insinuations around the staff protest as this is a highly insignificant incident to bring in political campaigns.

7. Our genuine vision of placing Benue Hotels and Resort as a 4 - Star internationally branded Hotel with global tourist attraction remains unshakable.

8. We earnestly reassure our esteemed customers/clients, staff and members of the public that there is simply no cause for alarm, as the wages issue in contention will be addressed as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Signed

Management

The Benue Governorship is Open!

As 2023 Governorship stands, the race may not be an all Kunav affairs as earlier envisioned, arranged ,zoned or micro zoned by the ruling political party in the state , i.e the PDP. This position was quite attempted to be replicated by a portion of the opposition APC keadership , who made frantic efforts to follow suit, howbeit infantile in the current circumstance. Having conducted a primary elections by which fellow contestants like Distinguished Senator Gemade , Chief Mike Kaase Aondoakaa , Prof Shija et al describe as a sham and alleged same to be akin to electoral ethos as provided by the Electoral Act 2022 as Amended.

Also the ruling PDP in the State, and of course it's Governorship flagbearer, Titus Uba has dragged the Party, APC to Court contending that the opposition APC did not conduct any valid primaries in it's Governorship, NASS and State Assemblies seats, thus may not be valid to even appear on the ballot , not to talk of winning any elections.

The times ahead of 2023 are indeed dicey and quite unpredictable bearing in mind which political party wins or loses.

Whether the initial euphoria of the Kunav people that the Governorship was already narrowed to them , meaning that it was their turn to produce the next Governor remains to be seen in the next few months to come

As it stands, the likes of Uba of PDP, Alia, Gemade , Aondoakaa and of course Shija all of APC are actively in the race. Chief Roberts Orya of YPP is very much active in the race too. The likes of Hembe of LP, Lumun Icheen of PRP, Oyigeya of Accord amongst others remain very top contenders for Benue Governorship 2023.

The Chickens indeed have come home to roost. The Benue Governorship 2023 may definitely not be decided on the platter of zoning , nor micro zoning , but principally on competence, credibility, antecedents, experience , passion, vision and delivery of candidates, even as the Peter Obi phenomenon is fast creating awareness across the Nigerian political domain.

For Benue Governorship Election, zone A and C will sure square it up- be it Kunav, Kwande, Gaav, Agatu, Okpokwu, Benue People will be looking at an ideal personality to build the Benue of our dreams.

ROBERTS ORYA on BENUE YOUTH....

" My aspiration to be Governor of Benue State is basically for the youth because they are in the clear majority of Benue population. We are in a democracy, which is a game of numbers and the youths have been disenfranchised and neglected.

They are used and later seen as a burden and dropped. Our youths have become slaves in this country. We should be able to give them jobs. The agriculture value chain alone can provide what they need.

We have not been able to give our children the relevant technological innovations and skills to go to the national and international arena and compete effectively.

We have the Benue State University, Makurdi that has been existing for about 30 years and yet it doesn’t offer engineering courses. Today, you find our children there graduating in mass communication, sociology and all that. Is that what we need now?

Can we make our children to be more productive under this kind of scenario? So, we need to be able to encourage them to acquire skills, save them from a consumption and begging mentality and let them feel that it is better for them to be productive and self reliant."

Benue Economy in Critical State, Says YPP Guber Candidate

ThisDay Newspaper
June 7, 2022 9:00 am

George Okoh in Makurdi

Former Managing Director of NEXIM Bank, Dr. Robert Orya, who emerged as the Benue State governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has stated that the economic situation in state requires his intervention to remedy the situation using his financial expertise.

He noted that his emergence during the governorship primary election in Makurdi, the state capital, as a governorship candidate would bring about economic transformation and security, which will be one of his priorities if elected into office next year.

The former managing director of NEXIM Bank pointed out that since 1999, successive leaderships in the state have borrowed so much from banks such that in 2023, there will be no room for incoming governor to borrow again.

He lamented that “Benue State is in a critical financial condition that requires an expert that understands how things work.

“It is unfortunate that the ‘big people’ in Benue State have formed the habit of throwing money they stole from the state coffers to youths to scramble over it while sitting in their comfort zone with their children drinking champagnes.”

The governorship hopeful, who said 2023 is a year of revolution without bearing guns and arrows, but with the use of PVCs, assured the state that his administration would be youth-oriented with 70 percent of them occupying various positions while primary and secondary education will be free in the state.

While calling on women and youths to join his rescue mission drive from the hands of the political class, he noted that his administration would not accept food and donations from any quarters for the IDPs, rather he will return them to their ancestral homes.

In his remarks, the Benue State Chairman of YPP, Dr. Gwadue Hough, said 2023 will not be business as usual, as the party is out to rescue Benue children from the hands of the rich.

Inaugurating the 17 member state executive in Makurdi, the National Organizing Secretary of the YPP, Mr. Moses William, charged them to be above board in carrying out activities of the party in the state.

He said the YPP candidate, Orya, possesses all the qualities to prevent Benue State from insecurity, hunger, poverty, and restiveness if voted into office as governor, and call on Benue electorate to shun money politics.

" I WILL ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS OF BENUE WITH 2POINT AGENDA " - Roberts Orya

- By Akosu Emmanuel Lubem

Former Managing Director NEXIM and YPP candidate for Benue Governorship 2023 says he will urgently address the problems of Benue State using his two points Agenda - Economy and Security.

According to Chief Orya, "I am coming to address the problems of Benue with a two-point agenda, which is economy and security. If you solve the problem of the economy, automatically, the problem of security is solved.

“Right now as it is, our State Benue has so much debt, salaries have remained unpaid, and pensioners are suffering.

“Benue needs someone that has deep knowledge of the economy; one who has the desire to develop the State; one who has the capacity and experience.

“I have experience in banking and the economic sector and have come to save the state.”

Mr Orya lamented that Benue youths engaged in menial jobs outside the state because of a lack of employment opportunities in Benue.

“Our children have become slaves to others, labouring as guards in distant lands because there are no jobs for them in their own state.

“My vision is to build Benue that will make youths fully engaged, and their destinies will be guaranteed,’’ he said.

Mr Orya stated that he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he could not actualise his governorship ambition there because of injustice occasioned by the party’s zoning arrangement.

He condemned the zoning of elective positions in Benue, which he said had denied the state of quality leadership, emphasising that he would abolish it if he becomes governor.

YPP BEGINS INDIRECT PRIMARIES TO FILL BENUE ASSEMBLY & NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SEATS

The Young Progressive Party (YPP) in Benue State has began its Primary elections on the 2nd, June 2022, to fulfill the conditions filling the 32 House of Assembly Seats, 11 Federal House of Representatives and the 3 Senatorial seats across the State ahead of the 2023 General Elections.

Officials of the INEC as well as a Team of YPP Electoral Panel led by the Chairman, Hon William Moses, and Members including, Ambassador Anita Zugwai Chukwu, Femi Ajilore, Mrs Iwar Lucy Agber and Hon John Dapinen along with the State Working Committee had put all necessary logistics and arrangements in place to ensure a free, fair, transparent and peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Leader of the Party and Governorship candidate of the YPP, Chief Roberts Orya took a tour of some select local governments across the State said the exercise was satisfactorily conducted and generally peaceful encouraging Benue Youth to be more proactive as critical partners and champions in nation building as the Party was set to take over power by 2023.

Chief Orya says he had offered himself for Benue Governorship based on his tract records in both public and private sectors , his antecedents, capacity, pedigree and as a mentor to the youth who form a significant segment of the population, promising 60% youth inclusiveness in government when elected Governor by 2023.

Also speaking to newsmen, the State Chairman of the Party, Dr Gwadue Hough, commended the exercise noting that the Party had adequately prepared for its conduct, with the necessary logistics to ensure a hitch free conduct, maintaining that they would be guided ultimately by the Electoral Act and other relevant Laws regarding the Primary elections.

He equally noted that , the National Assembly Elections covering the Federal House of Representatives and the Senate would be held between 3rd and 4th June , 2022, while the Governorship is slated to hold on the 5th of June in the State Capital, Makurdi.

He says the YPP is a democratic party that is pro people and entirely given to selfless service and quality leadership that has for long bereft the Nigerian State. He encouraged younger elements and women particularly to rise to the occasion to salvage and make a difference in leadership because the future is now.

Over 40 aspirants are jostling for the 32 House of Assembly Seats, with others aspiring for the Federal House of Representatives and the 3 Senatorial seats across Benue North-East, North-West and South Districts, having purchased their various Nominations and Expression of Interest Forms and screened by the Members of the Electoral Panel who arrived from the National Headquarters, Abuja to Makurdi three days ago to undertake the exercise.
