THE SOLE ADMINISTRATOR OF OBIO/AKPOR L.G.A INSPECTS ONGOING REHABILITATION OF RUMUODOMAYA ROAD AT SLAUGHTER MARKET.
In a proactive response to the deteriorating condition of the Rumuodomaya section of Ikwerre Road by the Slaughter Market, the Sole Administrator of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Sir Dr. Clifford Ndu Walter, DSSRS, FCAI, JP, undertook an on-site inspection of the ongoing pothole rehabilitation works currently being executed by the Obio/Akpor Intervention Committee, which he personally constituted.
Addressing residents and stakeholders, Dr. Walter clarified that although the affected road does not fall directly under the purview of the local government, his administration was compelled to take action in the face of growing public distress caused by persistent traffic congestion and hazardous driving conditions.
“Upon assumption of office, it was immediately evident that the potholes in this section of the road were a major factor behind daily traffic gridlocks. This problem was further compounded by roadside trading activities,” Dr. Walter stated. “We established a task force to address the encroachment, and today, the results are visibly taking shape.”
He emphasized that this project is a targeted intervention, not a comprehensive reconstruction. The primary aim, he said, is to alleviate the suffering of road users and restore free flow of traffic in one of the busiest corridors in Obio/Akpor.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the road, Dr. Walter described it as a “gateway into the heart of Port Harcourt,” necessitating immediate and deliberate action, particularly during off-peak hours to maximize impact and minimize disruption.
Also speaking during the inspection, Engr. Ikechukwu David, the site engineer, explained that the rehabilitation work is being carried out predominantly at night. This measure is intended to limit interference with daily market activities and reduce the inconvenience to motorists and traders. He assured the public of the durability and quality of materials being used for the repairs.
Obio/Akpor LGA continues to experience visible infrastructural improvements under the leadership of Sir Dr. Clifford Ndu Walter. Residents are encouraged to support and cooperate with ongoing efforts to uplift and develop the local government area.
