THIS PAGE IS NOW FORMALLY DESIGNATED AS: ATIKU DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT 2023.

Powered By: Atiku Democratic Movement, South South Zonal Head Quarters, #44 Igboukwu Street, D-Line, Port-Harcourt.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),

South South Nigeria, are officially behind Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, supporting his dogged resolve to manage the nation’s critical economic and polarized political system.

We believe in a peaceful Democratic will of the people to determine their next President and we surely believe in his covenant to the nation, that if he wins the presidential election, his government must negotiate a new royalty system on petroleum exploitation and push through a new law requiring the private sector to take over the petroleum industry activities.

We share i his absolute conviction that Nigeria should be run like a business venture, that the country had been ruled by leaders who have no business ideas; and that government has no business in business, he has been strikingly consistent.

Our presidential candidate, Atiku has firmly stressed his administration would work closely with the private sector to fix the country’s infrastructure deficit. He has severally restated his favorable disposition to resource control by endowed sub-national units.

According to him: “The private sector is pivotal to my agenda to rejuvenate the economy and close our infrastructure deficit gaps. If I am elected president, I will work closely with the private sector by giving them incentives to create more jobs and also grant them tax holidays in order for them to intervene in our infrastructure development.

The PDP candidate said his first job, as president if elected, would be restructuring the nation’s political and structural system. He restated his commitment to ensuring that necessary constitutional amendments that would cause a transfer of more powers and resources to other tiers of government would become activated from his first day in office.

We gladly urge all sons and daughters of South South Nigeria, to join our Grassroot Democratic Movement and ensure that Atiku wins favorably well across the region, and that he surely wins the Presidential election, come February 2023

THE MAN FOR THE JOB JUST PICKED THE NOMINATIONS FORM. ALL HANDS MUST NOW BE ON DECK FOR THIS RACE TO BE A HUGE SUCCESS.

EX GOV DICKSON JOINS BAYELSA WEST SENATORIAL RACE
.. AS GROUPS, POLITICAL LEADERS PICK NOMINATION OF INTEREST FORM FOR HIM

The immediate past Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Chief Henry Seriake Dickson, has picked the nomination of interest form of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Bayelsa West Senatorial District.

The former Governor opted to join the contest for the vacant Senatorial seat following overwhelming endorsements and calls on him by critical stakeholders to fill the vacant Senatorial seat.

Chief Dickson said in a statement by his Media Advisor, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, on Friday, that he would make a formal declaration when he visits Bayelsa.

The stakeholders who endorsed him cut across all the segments of the society such as women/youth groups, top political leaders, traditional rulers, students groups and others.

The stakeholders who have sustained the pressure on the former Governor to contest the election procured the form for him to bring months of speculation involving his participation in the election to an end.

There is the prevalent view in the Ijaw nation that the former Governor was the most suitable voice for the Senatorial District, Bayelsa and the Ijaw nation in the National Assembly.

They said that Chief Dickson has the experience, the capacity, and the network to take advantage of the Senate to promote the cause of his people.

Among those who endorsed Chief Dickson are Ijaw National Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, former Presidents of the Ijaw Youth Council, traditional rulers and political leaders.

The ex governor thanked Pa Clark, youth leaders, women groups and political leaders across party divide and the traditional rulers for the overwhelming endorsement he received from them.

The former Governor who has been away in Abuja for about six months due to the COVID 19 pandemic is billed to visit Bayelsa and make a formal request to kickstart his campaign.

Chief Dickson thanked the coalition of groups which picked the form for him.

NEW YEAR MASSAGE FROM ATIKU ABUBAKAR

2020 is the time to work for a better future.

The coming of the New Year 2020 is symbolic in many ways. First, it heralds a brand new decade. Secondly, and probably more important, is that this New Year will require us all to stay together more than ever before to take on, head front, the common enemy of insecurity that challenge our everyday lives as Nigerians.

I do not share the sentiment when some people claim that the outgone 2019 was a successful year for Nigerians. Such sentiments is reductionist and does the harm of making us have a false sense of victory.

The bitter truth is that Nigeria is still in the throes of economic instability, with more people losing jobs and the attendant outcome of more children being out of school and more families having hard time in accessing basic needs of life.

In this New Year, however, I will rather ask that Nigerians stand together with renewed vigour and determination to battle the hydra-headed demon of insecurity that has plagued us in the past decade.

We must challenge the inadequacies that made us become the global headquarters of extreme poverty; much as we must work hard and fast enough to eliminate the scourge of out-of-school children in the country. These are the challenges that this new decade has thrown at us and we cannot afford to slumber and submit to defeat.

The problems of extreme poverty and scant investments in education play huge roles in fueling the problems of violent extremism that we spent the past decade contending with. We cannot win the fight against terrorism if we do nothing to reduce or eliminate poverty and illiteracy.

The reality of this new decade requires of us to recalibrate our approaches and to pursue some tough choices. If failure is not an option, then we must let go of our egos and conveniences.

In this new decade, we must start to do things differently if we are honest about our desire for a better and prosperous future. There must be a deliberate effort to improve the material wellbeing of the people, by lifting millions of Nigerians out of the extreme poverty belt at a start, and to prosperity. Government must rethink many of its policies that is sinking more people into the abyss of extreme poverty.

It is incumbent on government at all levels to pursue policies that will provide decent housing to the mass majority; put food on the table; provide healthcare and education. We cannot continue to do things the same way and expect a different outcome. It is therefore high time we caused a rejig of economic policies that will promote an expansion of the economy and create jobs opportunities aplenty.

At the individual level, this moment calls for more empathy and sacrifice. The New Year and a new decade come with the opportunity to make better impressions in our lives and in the lives of people around us.

I wish to restate that our collective call for rule of law and our history about the struggle for democratic rule did not envisage a situation where judicial pronouncements would be worth less than the paper upon which they are rendered.

It is a bad advertisement for the country and its democracy if declarations made by the court are not respected without the executive arm of government agreeing to same. Any democracy is not worth the appellation if the principle of separation of power is not ingrained in it. In the new year, government should not pretend to be democratic, but rather act according to the fundamentals of a democracy.

Above all, I expect that in the New Year there will be a better observance of rule of law and greater respect for citizens’ democratic rights.

While we anticipate a change of attitude across board in the new year and new decade, I wish every Nigerian a happy and prosperous 2020.
