Traditional rulers in Aba South Local Government Area have been commended for their support towards the administration of the Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, especially for the ongoing remodeling and reconstruction of Ngwá Road Market Aba.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Investment, Chief Michael Egwu, who made this commendation recently in his office when the traditional rulers paid him a courtesy visit said that the State Government led by the Governor was in a hurry to develop Aba, the commercial nerve center of the State, as well as create a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

Chief Egwu, while reacting to some complaints laid by the traditional rulers frowned that the traditional rulers in Aba South LGA were not adequately represented during the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the remodeling of Ngwá Rod Market and described their exclusion from the event as a regrettable oversight.

He however extolled them for the understanding and love they exhibited by towing the line of dialogue and promised that the ministry will always carry them along in the scheme of events.

Earlier, the traditional rulers who were led by the Traditional Ruler of Ohazu Ancient Kingdom (HRM) Eze Sunday Emejiaka said that they were happy with the decision government to reconstruct Ngwa Road Market equipped with modern facilities but bemoaned the exclusion of other traditional rulers in Aba South LGA during the groung breaking ceremony.
They used the opportunity to thank the Governor for approving the remodeling of the market and fo other various people-oriented projects both completed and ongoing especially in Aba

Abia State government has performed a foundation laying ceremony for the reconstruction and remodeling of shops for the Ngwa Road market, Ahịa Ọhụrụ, Aba.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and investment, Chief Michael Egwu, who represented the Executive Governor Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazụ, assured the traders that nobody will loose his shop as a result of the reconstructions. He said within 8 weeks, the first phase of Lines 1 & 2 would be completed.

Chief Egwu used the opportunity to appreciate the elders of the market for agreeing to stop agitations and be on the same page with the State government. He assured the traders that the cost of renewing their shop ownership in the new shops would not be a burden to them, informing that government has discussed and agreed with their leaders on the amount which would be disclosed to them. The Permanent Secretary saluted the vision of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in developing and showcasing Abia State in various sectors of the economy including markets and solicitated continuous support of all to the administration.

Also speaking, the Developer of the market and Managing Director, Peacock Urban Regeneration Ltd., Dr. Uju Anosionwu urged the traders to accept the little discomfort they may have in the interim assuring that in the next 7 weeks the first phase would be completed while the entire construction would be completed by December this year.

The developer disclosed that the market which would be beautifully constructed would have such
facilities as clinic & maternity, fire-proofer, car parking space, offgrid uninterrupted power supply, CCTV security system, central preservation cold rooms, conveniences among others. He called on the traders to pick their forms and assured that they would not loose their shops while soliciting their cooperation.

In his speech, the Chairman, Ngwa Road Market Traders Association Mr. Chijindu Ojogho said they are happy with the decision of the government to reconstruct the market with modern facilities. He thanked the Governor for the assurances that no single shop owner would loose his shop and urged the Governor to make do his promise for them as the traders are committed to supporting his policies.

Earlier, the traditional ruler of the Ohazu Ancient kingdom, Eze Sunday Emejiaka enjoined his subjects to endure for a little as the work is being done in phases. He urged them to cooperate with government while calling on the contractor to work in line with specifications and speedly too to enable the shop owners resume their businesses in no distance time as well as appreciated the State Governor for his resolve to bequeath to the people a befitting market with modern facilities.

The state government has performed the groundbreaking for the remodelling of Ngwa Road Market Aba.

Speaking while performing the ceremony at the palace of the Traditional Ruler of Ohazu Autonomous community in Aba south community Eze Sunday Emejiaka, the Permanent Secretary y Ministry of Trade and Investment, Chief Michael Egwu said that the state government took up the project to remodel the market and make it to be of international standard.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the project is expected to be completed before November this year, pointing out that the Governor, Dr Okezie lkpeazu has already commenced the construction of Ngwa road in line with his determination to put Aba the commercial nerve centre of the state on the global map, while many roads have been fixed in Aba.

Chief Egwu who commended the governor for his genuine commitment to the development of the state urged the host community of the market and Traders to cooperate with the contractor handling the project as it is in their interest.

Contributing the traditional Ruler of Ohanzu Autonomous community Eze Sunday Emejiaka and Chairman Ngwa road market Traders Association Elder Chijindu Ojogho assured of their support and that of the traders in the remodelling of the market and thanked the governor Dr Okezie lkpeazu for the ongoing rehabilitation of Ngwa road.

In his remarks, the contractor handling the remodelling of the Ngwa road market Dr Uju Anusionwu assured that they would deliver the project on schedule as well as do a quality job, and solicited the support and cooperation of the traders, pointing out that no trader will lose his or her legitimate shop.

Govt Inaugurates Lokpanta Cattle Market Interim Management Committee

Abia State Government has inaugurated a six-man interim Management Committee for Lokpanta Cattle Market Umuchieze with Ali Sherif as Chairman and Alahaji Shuaibu Pate as Secretary.

Other members of the committee include

*Alahaji Annayim Umar as member
*Kabiru Abudurahaman as member
*Husseini Sarki Zango as member

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade and Investment, Chief Michael Egwu, who performed the inauguration recently in his office said that the interim Management committee was primarily constituted to enthrone peace in the cattle market , ensure that their members comply with the directives of the State Government, maintain full security of persons and goods in the market among other terms of reference and charged the committee members to always liaise with the ministry in order to maintain a conducive environment for their business to thrive.

He called on them to resist any form of imposition of levies on their members without the approval of government and urged the entire cattle dealers at Lokpanta Cattle Market Umuchieze to cooperate with the interim committee pointing out that the enthronement of peace and order in their market will translate to success for the cattle dealers.

Chief Egwu congratulated them on their appointment and prayed God to give them wisdom and courage to lead the market peacefully.

The Chairman of the Interim Management Committee Lokpanta Cattle Market Umuchieze, Ali Sherif expressed gratitude to the State Government for efforts aimed at bringing lasting peace to their market and promised on behalf of the other members to always abide by all government directives

"Market Executives tasked on promotion of peace and eradication of illegal taxations in markets."

Market executives in the state have been charged to ensure that only government approved levies are collected in various markets in the state in order to eradicate multiple taxations and promote peace in the markets.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade and Investment Chief Michael Egwu who gave this charge recently in his office while interacting with Chairmen and Secretaries of market associations in the state frowned at the situation where traders are subjected to various unapproved levies stressing that all levies collected in markets must be approved by government.

He warned that serious sanctions will be handed out to any market leader caught extorting the traders through the imposition of unapproved levies or tolls.

The Trade and Investment boss used the opportunity to call on the traders to support the State Governor Victor Okezie Ikpeazu PhD
on his passion and drive to develop Abia by ensuring that all approved market levies are paid as this would assist the Governor provide even more dividends of democracy to the people of Abia.

In his response, the President Abia State Market Amalgamated Traders Association ASMATA, Mr. Lucky Akubueze on behalf of the Market leaders thanked the Permanent Secretary for his role in streamlining excess levies in markets and promised to always work in tandem with government directives.
